Before you go ahead and do what you say, get few quotations from a "main" contractor and also same time separate quotes for the works you mentioned.

Then decide if you want to go thru the hassle of coordinating the works. Also it be cheaper if you sub labour for the tiling/marble works and you go look for warehouse discount for the materials. Last but not least, make sure you get a recommended electrician and parts that are of standard, don't want your unit to catch fire from cheap parts and small cables.

Hi,

I just bought a 15 year old condo unit in KL which I want to renovate and I am thinking that I do not just want to give the job to a contactor. I can contact plumbers, electricians, marble and tile floor layers, plasterers and deal with each one separately surpervising the whole thing myself.

Do you have any advice f flex.gif or me?

yes.. I did mine for that....

you can too if you are familiar with hardware materials, quality, type, class etc and how to

Get a few quotation and try to ask for discount.

If the difference is not much, I suggest that you let the main contractor do it.

If you are not familiar in the field, you better find a main-con and ask them to do the whole thingy. If you want to save cost, go and get the materials your self (again if you are familiar) and ask them to provide labour only (again there will be more wastage as they do not care how the materials is being used).

There will always be an overlapping job between two, three or sometimes even four job. If you lost coordination, what you lose is not only time but money also.

Unless all you have is time and you don't mind "ding ding dong dong" for half a year, then sure, you can manage it yourself.

Options[I]
1. Hire a main-con (do all the dirty works and save you headache, with higher price)

2. Hire a main-con (provide labours only, you buy the materials yourself)

3. Hire sub-con (Plumbers, electrician, marble and floor tile and etc., you need coordination)

I always tell people to hire a main-con if you are not familiar with the renovation thingy and materials (of course it will comes with a higher price, what do you expected? It saves your headache).
