Dear all sifus here:

I am new in photography ( beginner), looking to buy new DSLR,

currrently using normal DC, Lumix FX50

Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR camera
Budget : RM3-4Kinclude kitlens
Your Location : JB ( any good shop In Jb recomended)
Preferable brand : Canon or Nikon
Type of photography u want to do : Landscape or Portrait, holiday use,
Any specific models in mind? : D90/Canon 550D
Any specific features u want? : light and easy to handle, and portable

should I just take the body and pair with better lens or just take the standard lens kit?

i read here,17-50mm f2.8 should be better compare with standard kits esp when indoor with limited lighting.

pls enlighthing me.

thank you very very much

This points more towards 550D.It's easier to use, lighter and smaller but handling might not be that good.Go try it at shops and see which you like

My advice is to get the kit lens first.Beginners should start off with basic stuff right? tongue.gif Why spend loads of $$ when you don't even know which or what lens you like?

The Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 is optically more superior than the kit lens. The price tag of around RM1.8k for the VC version compared to the RM400 of the kit lens, does say something right? biggrin.gif

Kytz,

thanks for advise.

mostly here recomended is good pic-D90, movie-550D.

Both price range is abt same with kit lens.

If i take 550D, do u recomen me for 18-55 kits or 18-135 kits? for my purpose.

Thanks

Let's put it this way...from experience coming from a S90 to 550D.... regardless whether you get the 50D or the 550D.
You'll be totally blown away by the performance even with the bundled lens.

Then after that, you'll expect more and more from it until you start knowing what you want and start spending more than you can afford on lenses tongue.gif
My 2 cents is that:

If you're looking for best optical performance for the buck and you know for sure that you won't be spending $$$ on this later.

- 18-55mm IS
+ 55-250mm IS
+ 50mm f1.8

This is the best bang for buck combo which allows you to cover the entire FL range and a nice portrait/low light capability.

If deep down inside, you know that this is just touching the surface and you have no qualms about "investing" in quality glasses later.

- 18-135mm just to get started. Zoom zoom here and there. After getting the right optics for the right purpose and all... you'll still have a decent travel zoom for those days that you just wanna jalan jalan without being over burdened by tonnes of lenses.

Hope this helps.

that really cost a bomb,

as a beginer my budget is 3-4k.

i wonder y JB still selling expensive compare what i see in lowyat pricing

Canon 550D 18-135 IS RM 3780
same as Nikon D90 Rm3780 also ( 8GD+bag+tripod+ cleaning kit)

mostly advertise here must cheaper. at least 300-400 cheaper

if u r not in a rush, wait for next upgrade for D90 to come out. the price of D90 will certainly drop.

i think i will probably go for 550d.

yesterdat read DCM,review show d90 better phone.

but follow my heart go for 550d.

for newbies like should not concern do much on equipment,
just buy and try, is it suit for us n need to pursue for long term.

i will take this as initial step in leisure photography,

thanks everyone for good opinion here.

Hmm...Still undecided.
Now my friend offer to sell me her 6 months old D90.
I would consider if the price is reasonable.

I shoot using my friend 550D today. I feel the image quality is nice!!!
Much more better than NEX5 and EP1.

Btw, I will try my friend D90 tomorrow...
