Type of photography u want to do : Sharp Focus / Panorama
Any specific models in mind? : LX 3 / Tx 7 / GF 1 / Any sony DSLR got Panorama mode.

Looking for a camera, could not make my mind to choose compact or DSLR, would it look weird if a girl bringing a DSLR going around? And also worry that i don't know how to use it, but when i saw the pic taken by my friend using dslr, it's excellent. for some compact like lx 3 or tx 7 also can be HD as some DSLR, need adv~!!

(mint87 @ Oct 11 2010, 02:04 AM) no problem buddy if u r asking which one is a better buy,i'd say the 60D..since the 60D offers more specs..but if u r saying that u r not going PRO and in terms of price wise, the 550D is cheaper by RM800-RM900.. if i were u,i wud go for 550D since its cheaper and slightly smaller/lighter,and i dont need the 60D new features (although the new features is really nice ) there are some difference between those 2 tho..(like the 60D is using pentaprism and 550D is use pentamirror) for further details, here's some website 60D's specs - http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_eos60d.asp 550D's specs - http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Cano...non_eos550d.asp enjoy!

-kytz- Today, 02:16 AM Features which might make me get the 60D over the 550D are : 1)Better build quality, bigger grip and meatier body.Wider body-easier for the hands 2)Top LCD panel for easier access to settings, and also for "pro-ness" feel 3)Articulating screen, great for variable angle shots, and can prevent "nose stains on the screen" 4)Better AF 5)Faster burst rate So those are the 5 reasons, why i'll choose 60D over the 550D.RM800 top up whether worth it or not, we'll see~

Awesome guys this is very very very helpful thank you very much!, hope to make that right purchase! pros and cons, pros and cons... rclxub.gif lol.

mostly,dSLR pics are way better because of their bigger sensor..compacts hav smaller sensor, and micro four thirds(like the GF1 u stated above) have bigger sensor than compact..(this is as far as i know only)so dont flame me if im wrong ya..haha

compacts are easy to use and can easily carry it around..high end compacts such as LX3/LX5 do take some serious pics IMHO..

micro four thirds got the best of both worlds..its not that bulky, easy to carry around, but the pics are not as nice as a dSLR..(i heard the GF1's noise is already noticeable when the ISO's hitting 800 and beyond that)

dSLR is bulky, and it may look weird to carry around a dSLR every where u go..but it takes great pics..bigger sensor,u can handle it better..(and if dont mind carrying around the dSLR,go for it..)

wut im trying to say is,everything has its own PROs n CONs..

compacts - easy to carry around, but pics not so nice compared to dSLR..

m43 - not as small as a compact, take good pics..but the price tag,can buy entry level dSLR aledi loh

dSLR - some say its heavy and bulky, but end result really nice brows.gif

so ask urself..wut do u want?if u really need a good looking pics with less noise and better quality,go dSLR..if u just want to take nice pics and u dont really mind about some small2 stuff,go compact or m43..

(like me,i took my compact whenever i go fishing..cuz can easily masuk dalam my poket..when i got fish,i straight ask my fren tangkap my gambar..but most of the time,my fren oni got fish..i oni tangkap his gambar.. sad.gif ..and pic quality not that perfect, but still usable i can upload on my blog n fb..the important thing for me is i captured the moment, and the quality is not that bad either thumbup.gif )

so if u r using it for sharp focusing n panorama, and just for leisure,i wud recommend the panasonic LUMIX LX5..just because i love the end result smile.gif

IMHO,if u want an easy camera to bring along while travelling,go for the LX5 or NEX 5..(if it was me,i'll go for the LX5,just because i dont like the looks of the NEX 5..but i heard the NEX 5 is good in low light..and the pics are not that sharp..)

and if u r comparing the 1000D with the D3100,i must say the D3100 is the winner..more AF points,11 vs 7,more features, such as video mode, bla bla bla..

here's a video of the D3100 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nmK3qrY2NE&feature=channel

so,my conclusion, if u wan an easy to travel camera, if its me, i'll go for the LX5

and if u want a dSLR, i'd go with the D3100.. thumbup.gif

Actually in this case, I would recommend getting the Sony NEX3 since it's got sweep panorama mode and being a big sensor camera, its much better for those low light food picture or dark restaurant moments.

Having said that, I wouldn't discount the idea of getting a dslr as well. Despite the bulk...

It works well when travelling for the holiday in rome kind of look...

It apparently makes you look more "Pro" tongue.gif

But seriously, its up to you whether its necessary or not. Most DSLR's can take like 500 pics.. so do you need the extra battery capacity? It also helps with taking portrait... again, is that your preference?

Lastly, it adds another 80-90% weight to your camera body to balance off heavy long lenses.

So... to summarize:

- Look more "Pro" tongue.gif
- Can take A LOT of shots without recharge (though keeping a spare battery in the bag does the same)
- Don't have to do arm gymnastics for portrait shots
- Balances heavy lenses by making the body heavier

Thanks for the info, I am confused actually. Does the battery grip is just the casing only? or it has actually a built in battery in it?

Any specific models in mind? :canon 550D

I have been playing dslr since this year and im used to use nikon but all this while, i have been borrowing my friend (nikon) then now im using my own money to buy my own dslr.

Will it be a matter that im used to use nikon then now i change to canon?
i love canon 550d is because of the 18mgepixel biggrin.gif which actually make the pictures look more nicer.

then im confuse with buying the lens. any opinion i should get the 18mm-55mm or 18-105mm?

Thanks smile.gif

if u're familiar with nikon, why dont just stay with it?

and the 550D's 18mp is a big boost..but higher pixels doesnt mean the result's better..its just bigger if its 100% enlarged..

read this article here(i prefer the nikon's pics altho im a canon fanboy) - http://www.digitalreview.ca/content/Canon-...Nikon-D90.shtml

IMHO,the canon 550D is a great camera, its got video mode, higher mp,bigger screen on the back. but the 18mp is a great selling point for canon. its a great marketing way to attract customers. and with ur budget, i think u can score the 550D with kitlens and still save some money. go search in the garage sale section (i searched for u but didnt find any so u search lah hehe)

there is no 18-105mm by the way. did you mean the 28-105? there are two different 28-105 USM lenses, one of which (the f/3.5-4.5) is much better than the other. however I wouldn't especially recommend either as a kit lens replacement because 28 mm is not wide enough for a general-purpose zoom (just my personal opinion). but i would recommend the 15-85 or the 17-85(which is cheaper).

hope this helps thumbup.gif

why i dont stay with it? >< firstly is because i found out that 550D hav alot of good option which what you list out above biggrin.gif 2nd with my budget if get nikon either d5000, then why i dont go for better?(like canon 550d,which alot ppl recommend) hehe. how do you think? if nikon, which wan you will recommend?

opss. is not 18-105mm (typo error) but actually right 18-55mm is the basic want right? my friend selling dslr give me this price (‎18-55mm RM2799) (18-135mm RM3499) thats why im confuse with which 1 i should get.

ahh..after reading you (' i would recommend the 15-85 or the 17-85,which is cheaper') i think i really need to study alot about lens ady >< all this while i only know about 18-55mm. paiseh

oh u r talking about the 18-135,if u got abit more budget, then better go with the 18-135..can use for alot of occasion..

if i were to choose and suggest u a model,i wud say the nikon D90 is a great choice..but if u are more into videos,go for the 550D..

i was once stuck oso..to choose the nikon D90 vs canon 550D..but i went to canon 60D instead..

if u r thinking of nikon D5000,i prefer the 550D more..but if D90 vs 550D,i wud go for the D90..

ah and the lenses-

15-85 = replacement model for the 17-85..so the price is still mahal

17-85 = this one i saw ppl sell 2nd hand around rm1k oni..i got one of these..and its my multi-purpose lens for now thumbup.gif

here's a link i found for u to kira budget..

I don't recommend getting the 28-105 f3.5-4.5 USM even if its cheap. It's quite an ancient lens designed for the film age so while its corner sharpness is good, the overall sharpness and contrast is poor compared to more "modern" lens including the kit 18-55 IS.
