Hi All,

Hope you can help me.

Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR camera
Budget : RM5000 include kitlens
Your Location : Shah Alam
Preferable brand : Canon or Nikon
Type of photography u want to do : Landscape and Portrait
Any specific models in mind? : Nikon D90, Nikon D7000 or Canon 60d
Any specific features u want? : Just want a beginner DSLR for me to learn before advancing further.

THANKS!!!  laugh.gif

*
D7000 for the win. 4.5 with kitlens..
It should be good enough 4 you to learn..

Or the other hand, 60D can allow you to spend the extra cash on a speedlite. Which is another pro too. Depends on your needs.

I had the same problem deciding last time also lol. But i went sony >">

A33 can fit a-mount third party lens, tammy, Sigma or old skool minolta XD

canon 1000D or nikon D3000

Mudah.com? No need liao. That site, i wont bother 2 purchase lens from de >">

up to you la. Both has its pro n con. D3100 lacks AF motor in body. 1000D is the most basic canon line up. Sony pawns both in terms of specs, but since you cant afford, might as well get nikon n upgrade later lo.

Search in garage sales?
That's the best option.
Ask around the respective threads also XD

60D would be better for your budget, but it will cost a bit more.
D90 cost 3.3k with 18-105 kit anyways biggrin.gif

Thanks so much for the reply.

May I know why is 60D better than D90? would like to know the differences? I heard D90 has a better grip.
*
But 60d has the swivel LCD. Some find it very useful in some situation. D90 is an phased out model sadly, but it still delivers....

can u comment a bit on the kit len, as the body price different, i can only have the 18-105 if i take D7000, is it a good lens and worth to spend compare to 60D's 18-200. i am thinking to hold only one lens for travel and no plan to change len during the whole trip.

thanks in advance.
*
D7000 comes it a good kit lens. Its nothign special compared to those more expensive lens, but can hold its own against em. If you do not intend 2 change lens, might as well settle with the D7000. It works fine and the magnesium alloy body is such a killer >">

QUOTE(Ezra86 @ Nov 18 2010, 07:37 PM)
Hi guys, I'm planning to get a DSLR... My FIRST cam of this range.. I'm a total noobie in this but I'm the type who loves and learns technology really fast.. Even with my 1.3MP compact last time I was already playing with ISOs, shutter speed and so on..

I'm planing to get Nikon 3100... Because 1) The budget suits me 2) Not too sure yet if I wanna take photography seriously (But will maximize my usage of any device, no white elephant syndrome), 3) Since I'm a noob, heard some people like this camera therefore after checking specs i got poisoned too..

I'm not at all familiar into the changing of lenses (yet) but I rather not change them at the moment. Just the basic kit will do.

My question: 1) Can some one tell me if this is a good choice (personally your experience)
                   2) Can someone give me alternative models similar to Nikon 3100, any brand... if possible state price and reason I should get it instead (if any)
                   3) I love Sony (fanboy), but why many people say its not good as a DSLR producer? Misconception or fact?
                   4) What else do I need with my DSLR? I love taking care of devices like a baby so let me know, eg: the cover thingy for the flash mount so on...
                   5) Will the camera be future prove? No need sooooo future proof, just reasonably.. And since this is my first, I'm not so sure what choices of lenses or accessory is abundant?

Thanks alot for the help... There is no rush to get it there for tell me if I should wait for models, or which is the best place to get one.. Fair? Shop? like that...
*
If you like Sony, then try sony A55 or A580. Sony A55 is the next gen DSLT biggrin.gif
Sony produces decent DSLR/DSLT compared to Canon/Nikon. Don't be conned by people saying its not good. Try it yourself 1st before you go further in this field.

1st - D3100 lacks AF motor in body >"> Sony A55 would be better in that sense.
2nd - Sony A55, Canon 550D
3rd - Explained liao.
4th - Drybox. a good strap, bag but those are not seriously needed la. Just to add on bling2 >">
5th - Future proof? Welcome to DSLR land. Where nothing is future proof lol.

Best shop? Can't tell you any. I seek the lowest price from forumer/contacts. Fairs are not trustable lol.

QUOTE(matt_att @ Nov 18 2010, 07:55 PM)
seem like magnesium alloy and it is 39AF and video continue AF is the key point to make hard decision to give up 18-200 lens.

thanks brother.
*
Erm, the video AF got a bit slack btw lol. But yea. Magnesium Alloy for me is the catch, plus 39 AF points.

Guys: another noob question, once I get to a shop or store.. what must I ask, find out? eg: warranty, freebies, bundle.. and find out as to not act stupid in the store? What must I be careful of when shop owners say something? I want to not be influenced by the shop owner into getting certain things and have the best deal at the same time..

Please include some accessories I should ask too.. that you have asked or wish you had during ur camera purchase.. Thanx in advance..
*
Well, research time and time again before you decide to buy anything from any shop.
And bring a pal. Just in case to prevent you from being tricked into overspending lol.

Set your mind on a target, go in, and walk out with one biggrin.gif

Hi guys, its me again...

I've been pondering over the D3100 and the D5000... But I've came to a decision to get a camera with an in built AF motor... So, a D7000 might do the trick...

Does the D7000 cost a bomb, cuz i'm not going to throw lots of money on the body itself, as friends told me to invest on lens cuz it already cost grands
*
D7000 is 4.5k with kit lens..

D90 is around 3.3k instead. if you are big with budget, i think d7000 is fine. If not, take D90 as its a semi pro and it works wonders biggrin.gif]

Invest on lens when you are good, not when you are starting DSLR XD

Learn with kit, 50mm prime and when you are good, you go up a notch and get more exp lens, flash n etc XD

Guys/Gals,

Planning to get my first DSLR camera beginning of next year 2011 probably end of Jan or beg of Feb. I have used my current LX3 camera quite sometime already and plan to learn more on DSLR. Upgrade myself a bit tongue.gif
Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR/AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR (like to take photo from far, natural look)/Remote Accesories (cheap want can already I think seldom use just use it if want to shoot long exposure at night) - Wireless Remote Control ML-L3
Budget : RM 3000 - RM 3500 (Maybe sell off my LX3 to top up)  hmm.gif
Your Location: KL/PJ
Preferable brand : Nikon
Type of photography u want to do : Portraits (Seldom), Landscapes (Lovely), Macro (Yes, especially insects, birds, flowers etc)
Any specific models in mind? : D5000 or D90 (Still headache on which to choose). Hope Nikon next year come out new DSLR to replace the D5000 or D90 at the range of the price.  laugh.gif
Any specific features u want? : -

D7000 ftw lol.
Its the future at least for now.

QUOTE(w.j0102 @ Nov 20 2010, 09:28 PM)
thanks... But Sony's SLT-A33Y (A33 + SAL1855 all-purpose lens and SAL55200-2 telephoto zoom lens) both discontinued lenses for RM 2,799. Which means an additional RM400 for 2 lenses... Does it worth the extra money???
*
Erm, I think you can get lesser if you try bargain harder. Coz i got 2.1k for kit nia. So, take 55-200, around 2.5k lol.

Anyway, if you dun want 55-200, You can get a beercan at a very good price of 7xx. it works awesome too, only poor CA >">

I'd like something smaller than dslr (lighter to carry around) but able to capture very good quality photos. I am currently using a very simple nikon digital cam for closeup purpose, it served me well but it's giving way. Don't know much about photography but very interested in it. Could someone please advise?

canon 1000D or find a 2nd hand one at garage sales.

Hi guys!
Can you all give me some opinion about dslr camera since it will be my 1st dslr camera.

Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR Camera
Budget: 2K
Your Location: Perak
Preferable brand : Nikon / Canon
Type of photography u want to do : Landscape, Portrait, Macro
Any specific models in mind? : 1000d or d3100
Any specific features u want? : best quality

Do you think it is valuable if i buy canon 1000d + 50mm 1.8 or just buy a nikon d3100?  I thinking if i had a budget about 2k, i can get either both of them. Before that i already know that d3100 don't have motor in body so this camera should need af-s lens that will be more expensive.

Need help from you guys! Thanks!
*
Why don't you get a Sony A33 instead which has better feature than those basic DSLR?

AS you know, D3100 has no AF motor, so damn annoying unless you can afford lens with AF >">

The kit lens yea.. But some of the better lens have no AF in the lens. Therefore, you need the AF in the body. Hard 2 explain as I'm not a nikon fan. Try entering the Nikon thread and ask the experts there.

If i recalled correctly, the 50mm f1.8 has no AF in the lens.

Which is why I said Sony A33 is better as there is AF motor in the body, therefore 50mm F1.8 can be used with AF still ~.~
