tony, what do u knw abt sony's NEX-5? what sets it apart frm the 60D (minus the obvious differences la)
*
i dont know much about the NEX-5 bro. but i do know that it has got the same size sensor as a DSLR. the APS-C size sensor. wut sets it apart? well the 60D is a DSLR, and the NEX-5, im not sure where it stands. its not a 4/3 camera because the sensor's bigger, maybe its a small interchangeable lens camera. well, i think u should wait for zstan to reply. i think he knows better. smile.gif

thanks a lot for your feedback!! biggrin.gif I'm actually really tempted to get LX5 but the price range is off the budget i'm given ): I figured that I wouldn't miss the features on LX5 too much if i don't think about it. though mannn i am tempted! sighhh

but given the option of S95 against LX3 for the same price, which one so you think is better? or is LX3 really less superior to S95?
*
the lx3 maybe a bit old from the s95, and does size matter to u? btw aint ur budget rm1500?

habe a look at this site right here - http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...7&hl=lumix+lx-5

the lx-5 is only rm1529 there. u just need to add in another rm30 bro. smile.gif and if were to compare the lx3 and the s95, the specs are mostly similar but the s95 can take videos in 720p i think. here's a link to its comparison. smile.gif

yupp budget is around there, but since its a present from my sisters i figured i should help them save some money! LOL

thanks for the link! i readreadread and I'm stuck again... All of them have their own attraction! haha

S95 - cheapest (rm1259) and slim
LX3 - mid range (rm1350), in-btw size but i don't think its pocketable either. more battery life compared to S95?
LX5 - +++ features! haha the thing is i'm not sure how well i'll appreciate them! though seeing picture comparisons, lx5 has the best images... so tempting!

in the end i'm as undecided as ever! I think image quality wise i'll be happy with either of them!
Was leaning more towards LX3 as compared to S95 in the beginning as the specs seems to be a little better? is this true? i probably understand only 70% of that haha
S95 has better video, but I dont really take that many vids... but yeahhh its SLIM! as compared to LX3 n 5 which has the lense jutting out. I'm not too sure if size really matters... I've always been stuffing all my previous cameras in my bag. I think i really have to go to the shop and hold them in my hands!

If you had the option you would get LX5?? lol ;D
*
yeah, if i need to choose either 1, i'd go for the lumix lx-5. (but i love the compactness of the s95 too LOL). but yeah, if its me, n size is not a matter, i'd go with the lx-5. and also, like u said, i think either camera can deliver nice pics. so pick ur pick! biggrin.gif

Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR camera/EVIL
Budget : RM 3500 include kit lens
Your Location : Kedah
Preferable brand : Canon or Nikon or Sony
Type of photography u want to do : photography, normal usage , indoor photography
Any specific models in mind? : 60D + 18-55mm IS , 550D+ 18-55mm IS, Sony NEX-5 twin lens
Any specific features u want? : easy to carry(not bulky), future proof(as in availability of lens, accessories, etc)

Thanks. Currently considering 60D/NEX-5 but the extra bulk of 60D is kinda turn off, although more lens available and more functions

if u want a small and light camera, consider the sony a55/33,the canon 550D,and the nikon D3100. im not a big fan of the sony's EVF(electronic viewfinder),but the HD video it can offer is really good. also not to forget some in-camera-processing like the HDR thingy. well as the canon 550D and the nikon D3100, both are good in their own ways IMO. all these 3 cameras im suggesting are within ur budget, and yes, they take great pics. biggrin.gif

Hi Guys,

Kindly advise:-

Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR+lens
Budget: RM2,800
Your Location: KL
Preferable brand : Canon or Nikon
Type of photography u want to do : normal shooting, family photos, traveling, protrait, outdoor/indoor (I am a beginner)
Any specific models in mind? : Canon 550D or Nikon D3100
Any specific features u want? : Video 1080p

Thanks.
*
if u are really considering these 2 models, im leaning more towards the 550D. u can watch this intresting video smile.gif

but if u really want 1080p video recording, i would suggest the sony SLT a55. the video mode with continuous AF is incredible IMO. have a look at this AF video comparison.

and just to add, the 550D and the sony slt a55 does come with an external mic input for better sound when u're recording.

@Tony Shark..

But I tot 550D oso offers 1080p video recording??

BTW, how poor will be the Nikon D3100 when there is no mic input during video recording?

I am oso currently deciding between these 2 units. If D3100 does not have much difference comparing to 550D, I would get D3100 as it is very much cheaper than 550D.
*
yes, the 550D offers 1080p video recording as well. but the sony SLT a55 AF(autofocus) while video recording is greater/better than the 550D IMO.

and about the D3100 and 500D, have u watch the video?if there's no minx output while video recording, the quality of the sound will not be 'poor', maybe it'll be just nice and enough for ur needs. but adding an external mic can enhance the sound more. nicer sound lah biggrin.gif. so if u have narrow down to these 2 models, then it should be easy for u. if its me, i'd go with the 550D. but yeah, the nikon's D3100 is way cheaper. so pick ur pick! thumbup.gif

if u need video, the im suggesting the nikon D3100 or the canon 550D. btw, the nikon D3100 price in semenanjung is around rm1900 with kit lens, and the canon will be around rm2888 with kit lens (that's way over ur budget huh?) so if u need video,i think the D3100 is the choice. i dont know the pricing in KK tho. well if u dont need video, the 1000D and D3000 can serve u well smile.gif .well the s95 is not a DSLR, its a high-end compact.

Any specific models in mind? :  Canon 550D 18-135mm / Canon 60D 18-55mm
Any specific features u want? :  nil

550D 18-135mm: more versatile, small size
Canon 60D 18-55mm: nice to hold, light compared to the 550D 18-135mm

As my 1st DSLR, which package should I choose? Better lens or better body?
*
wut i heard from the photographers i knew, they said buying good lenses = better. but as for me, i would say, buy a good body first then slowly invest in lenses. why? cuz once u learned how shutter speed, exposures,ISO, bla bla works, and u notice that ur body is insufficient to some features, u'll want to buy a new/better body. (just like me sad.gif) so in my opinion here, if u're stuck between those 2 models, i'd say get the 60D with the kitlens first. learn as u go by with the kitlens. then u urself will know wut kind of lens u'll be needing the most smile.gif

just my opinion tho thumbup.gif
