No need primer or sealer.Me know nothing about painting and want to ask. My house already got old paint, i think those cheap white paint 1. Need to repaint but paint what or which 1 first? primer, sealer or straight to paint i want? 2. Which paint brand value for money? All i know is ICI brand cos use them beforeon my old house, until now no problem but heard now very expensive. want to save some $$$ if there is no difference. 2. ICI, jotun, nippon or mr.paintman. Just check which 1 is cheaper. The price is very competitive. |

QUOTE(xbotzz @ Aug 10 2016, 06:24 AM) Thank you ozak, I remember reading here you have a special price in on of the shops in puchong but only applicable to you. Lol. Is this the shop? I will check out this shop today bro.. thanks again. Only me. I m not recommend them because I have special price. You don't see me advertise heavily. I recommend them is because they have more variety to choose. A few brand to choose, all the standard paint color and custom mix paint color. All in 1 shop. Save your money and time. But I m not sure the price. You got to check for yourself. Since you have more choice in 1 place, you will get confuse and don't no what to choose. Once you visit, get back here and tell us something. |

QUOTE(xbotzz @ Aug 11 2016, 09:27 AM) I went to Seah Paint shop. There was 2 aunties manning it. Unfortunately, the moment I mentioned Jotun, they 'sound' me, we do not sell Jotun, only ICI and Nippon, did you see the Jotun Sign on our boards outside. I apologized and left. Sorry. They don't sell jotun. Only Nippon, ici and mr.paintman. Or probably korea paint. I then went down to Mr. Paint Shop. Met a serious looking young guy(mr.lee) who turned out to be very patient and professional. I generally told him to recommend me a paint, and he asked me back which one do I prefer and he can talk about it. I mentioned Jotun and he started to talk about it. First he divided my category, high end/mid(majestic-total beauty)/low end(strax), depending on my budget. My interest was on mid range. I then gave me my size and he was patient in calculating, proposing and talking about it. I told I wanted to do it on my own, and he was very patient explaining to a noob like me. I was impressed. I wanted to use Nippon Momento on one of the concept walls, and he asked me how was my 'skill'. He then advised me to try San Cora: Italia Due even I am aiming for a 1 liter tin. Price wise: 1 lt Jotun Majestic - Total beauty - Matte - rm100 3 lt Jotun Majestic - Total beauty - Matte - rm238 He strongly advised me to apply undercoat, even the condo has an initial layer, tip was, undercoats can be thinned up to 90% (1:10), so I need to get a 20L undercoat about ~ rm170. I wanted to repaint the ceiling with Strax 1lt Jotun Strax - rm85 15lt Jotun Strax - rm185 San Cora: Italia Due - 1Lt - rm148 Momento was around rm110 (not sure) Best part, I told him, I am going to survey and come back. He assured me his price was the best and asked me to check it out. He even told me, see you soon as I was leaving. The feeling is quite nice to visit this kind of shops with professional people. Anyway, I am going to check out other Jotun Shops today to see how true is this guy. I mean, i did read in this thread about mr.paint shop damansara being awesome too. I guess the Puchong one also is quite awesome. I will update the price if i find another cheaper place.. also ill open a thread on my DIY paint project(hopefully it will be a success) You don't need an undercoat. Unless the current wall color is too dark . What is the purpose of undercoat from his point of view ? I just finish my painting 1 of the living hall yesterday. Just 2 layer of grey on to a light green previous color. Use 1.5L of paint. No undercoat. Price are very competitive. Mostly +/- few RM different only. Anyway, it is good to compare and tell us here. |

QUOTE(xbotzz @ Aug 11 2016, 01:00 PM) its ok bro.. If your surface is dirty and oily, apply an undercoat is just like a paint peeling off. A good paint is already have a good adhesion property. Unless you get some cheap paint.undercoat, according to him, its for the grip of the new paint over the older surface. He used the word "gam". I am having this issue with my current house, at times, i will see flakes of paint that drop from the ceiling or the wall, i think long term undercoat plays a role. I do have some wall get paint peel off. Cause the developer just paint the base cement with low quality white paint. Like powder form. Pretty common for save cost. Even just stick a tape on it and pull will pull off the paint together. To get a good adhesion paint, 1st is to remove the existing paint till see the cement. Clean the cement with soap. Dry well and apply primers. Than paint whatever color paint you like. I can guarantee the paint last for 15yrs without peeling off. Even with a tape. |

QUOTE(firee818 @ Jan 14 2017, 11:34 AM) hi, could we paint the sealer twice on the same wall? Sealer require when there is bare cement wall.because the wall had paint first with the sealer half year ago(new house), but some maintenance on the floor is still going on after that and made some dirt on the wall. In order to cover the dirt, could we use the sealer again to cover the dirt before final painting? . Waste money if already have paint wall. Just direct paint on it. Apply a white paint if the existing paint is dark and you want to paint a lighter color. |

QUOTE(enriquelee @ Jun 8 2017, 09:53 AM) Just use scrapper to scrap off the loose paint. It is not required to strip off the entire old paint to apply sealer. Try use the paint stripper. It come in a can. Apply with brush, wait for few minute and scrap it out. But I not sure the paint stripper can be use on the emulsion paint. Have to try it out. Cause mostly paint stripper selling here is for oil paint. Last time I still can buy the paint stripper for emulsion paint. Very fast to strip out the paint completely. But I don't no where to buy now. |

QUOTE(idoblu @ Feb 25 2018, 12:22 PM) Do you throw away left over paint? I don’t. I try to save some for touch ups later in the future. Problem is the old paint cans don’t seal well after a few times opening and closing the lid. Too big leh. Mostly leftover paint for my case is less than a liter. I found some plastic jerry cans with an air tight cap and cover. They come in a few sizes. I bought the 2 liter ones which I think is enough. These cost me RM6.25 each at Ace Hardware ![]() Mostly I use ICI paint. ICI now come with plastic can and a small top cover to open. Very handy and open/close hundred time without problem. No rust if store long too. Every paint brand should change the tin can to plastic can. Don't understand why still pack in tin can. |

QUOTE(siomi @ Aug 26 2018, 06:17 PM) 2 reason.1) Bad base paint. The white base paint is not a premier paint and just a normal white cheap paint. If you use your hand to wipe across, your hand stick with the white powdery form. 2) You use too much water on the nippon paint. Thinning too much. |
