Hi all sifus. Want to ask advice to paint my hall and kitchen with jotun chi 7236. My home is new with beige-ish wall color, but since my cabinet and furniture will be woody color, i want off-white color to match them. A friend said i just need to paint 1 layer of primer and 1 layer of chi 7236 only. But from my reading here, seems like need 2 layers of the paint color we want instead. Which one should be it? Will be diy to save money, so need lots of info here. Thanks!
*
Just clean the existing wall with a damp cloth.

Dont need primer.

1 coat or 2 depends. If you want more ommph to bring out the colour, two coat.

Hi all sifus,
My plaster ceilin has just been repaired. if i repaint the small area with Jotun Jotaplast Max (powder paint) will it look patchy?
*
If the previous paint is recently painted, then the difference is not obvious unless you focus on it.

You can test the area and wait for it to dry and see the result. Your eyes is the best judgement.

But if you are paying someone to repair a leak or or reposition lighting then the std will repaint the patch area.

Is it doable to paint a house yourselves? Anyone here done it before?

I'm thinking to paint my house myself to save some money.

If you are not in a rush to move in, is doable. The right tools, paint and knowledge are what you need.

Not forgetting Youtube.

Hi guys.. I'm planning to paint my new subsale flat with 650sqft and 3 rooms.. May I know how much litres that I need for painting ..?

Primer - For undercoat (1 coat), is it 1 big bucket (18 litres) is enough?
Color - For topcoat (2 coats), is it require 1 big bucket or need 2 big buckets?

I have asked hardware shop, but for topcoat, some said 1 big bucket is enough and another said its require 2 big buckets..

now confuse..
*
Without looking at the wall condition, no correct answer. Some may need 1, 2 or even 3 coats. During painting, there bound to have normal wastage.

Just buy 1 each to paint first. If is not enough, then buy another smaller pail or similar. If you have no experience, is difficult to estimate.

Some shop may recommend 1 to minimise wastage. The other recommend 2 to save you another trip. Is who you want to believe.

That's cheap, paint material itself, I believe already 300-400 minimum. Can introduce? Send me a pm.

Sori, labour only. Paint is normally excluded because it depends on owner preference

hi guys.. which brand do you all recommend for indoor house paint?

looking for something durable.. if can easy to wash in case children draw on wall or wall dirt
*
Those few common brands like Nippon, Dulux, ICI and Jotun are ok.

Cleaning of stained walls depend on what causes it .... for eg, a permanent marker ink will not be completely removed and after few days, is more difficult to remove the stained.

Hi sifu, planning to paint a new color for my room, wanna see for some advise

Currently my room is in light blue, and would like to paint to white/cream. I tested the paint on my wall and it can't cover the old color.

Question: Should I paint my wall with white paint first or use primer?

If primer, what brand do you guys recommend? Quite surprised that Jotun Majestic primer cost the same as the Majestic paint.  I believe there's cheaper primer out there but not sure on the quality and not sure if i should cheap out on primer.

Seeking for advise, thanks in advance!

Use maxilite plus white to cover the earlier blue paint

Hi all, I am planning to DIY paint my new house. I have some questions and sifus welcome to correct me if I'm wrong or give any additional tips if any.

Paint:
1) Ceiling: 2 coat of Nippon Perfect White
2) White walls: 2 coat of Nippon Perfect White
3) Coloured walls: 2 coat of Nippon Eash Wash
4) Hacked runs on walls: 1 or 2 coat of Nippon 5400 Sealer before top coat

Planning:
1) Sand down uneven surface using 100 grit sandpaper
2) Wipe off dust using damp cloth
3) Seal hacked runs
4) Paint ceiling first
5) Paint wall

Questions:
1) For 2 coats of Nippon Perfect White, is it neccessary since existing is developer's Matex/Maxilite? Or better to paint 1 coat of Matex and then 1 coat of Perfect White to save on some cost?
2) Can I paint at night? Thinking of going to paint at night after work. If wait weekends to paint, might take few weeks to finish. But my concern is that panting at night might be not good for the paint (ambient temperature cause paint shrinkage? Insects?)
3) After wiping off dust using damp cloth, when can I paint? After 1-2 hours to ensure the wall is dry enough?
4) I might be pouring small amount amount of paint into an empty 18L paint bucket with paint grit and dip my roller straight from the bucket. Do I need to stir Nippon Perfect White before pouring?
5) How do I store the paint and roller/brush for tomorrow or next weekend use?
*
1. 2 coat to have an even coating paint finish.

2 Yes, but leave the window and door half open for ventilation after painting. If have ceiling fan, turn it on

3. If is not raining, then ok. Bring a stand fan to help the ' drying' process.
Squeeze away as much water from the cloth.

4 Always stir the paint b4 painting. Doesnt matter if is 'freshly' bought from shop.

5. Wash with running water using garden hose. Let it drip dry. Do not stinge on brushes and rollers. Buy some good quality ones, Replace if necessary.

2) What happens if I paint during raining season? The paint will crack? What if it starts to rain unexpectedly when I'm in the middle of painting or just right after painting?

4) But there's advice to paint directly from pail, to reduce the need of pouring many times into paint tray if painting large surface like ceiling. Also mentioned that there's paint grid in the pail (something like a mesh) which I will roll onto to remove excess and even out the paint on the roller (same purpose as paint trays).

5) So let's say I managed to paint only 1 layer of paint tonight and wish to continue 2nd layer tomorrow night or next weekend, the roller has to be washed/changed new? Saw some tips to seal it in ziplock bag, or store inside paint bucket and covered tightly, but I'm not sure is this proper way.

6) If my wall requires 1.5 litre of coloured paint, then I should be buying 2 cans of 1 litre right? But will the colours be exactly same? Or it's better to buy 5 litre directly to prevent different colour? Saw some facebook post bought 2 cans with same code, same seller, same day but different tone.
*
2. Have a stand fan ready to ventilate the place after painting.

4. It depends on the size of the roller. If is a 18 litre pail, is not easy to carry around when full.

5. If using the same colour paint, then wash off excess paint and wrap it to prevent quick drying. Brush refills are not expensive if you dont want to wash. Good painters comes with bags of refill for different sizes.

6. Always buy excess quantity and stir the paint everytime b4 painting. Paint left for more than a day will have some 'settlement' at the bottom.

What do I use to cover previous wall colour? I did 1 coat of sealer + 2 coats of brilliant white, can't cover 100% n it's driving me crazy 😅 Previous colour is medium light blue & cream beige.

Am using Dulux. I check thru their visualiser app n there's only the sealer available, undercoat for doors metal wood windows.

Do I just get a cheaper white from Dulux or stick back to their sealer?

Photo won't be able to show, I'll say it covers only maybe 96%? From my eye lah. I can still see a very slight tinge of blue.

My other room I actually sealer 1.5-2 coats, medium light purple + pink, this one manage to cover.

Now I'm thinking how to cover for other parts of the house. Can I use maxilite as undercoat instead? Will it be able to cover?
*
Yes, can use more coats with maxilite since is cheaper.

Hi all painting sifus, I just painted 1 layer of light blue and noticed this spot (hopefully you guys can spot this too in the photo). I think the developer patched this area since texture is different, afraid will have uneven tone later, I applied 1 layer of sealer at this spot. But after painting the colour, this spot showinf uneven tone
not sure is it because of my sealer? How do I rectify this?

Since the original color is not dark shade, then is no issue. Worst case, give it a 3rd coat

i hope here got some sifus answer me, pls~

Try using a water power jet spray to remove the paint. If not possible, then ...

Paint few coats of maxilite. Buy the big tub, 18 litres. Wait for each coat to dry b4 the next coat. Once you are satisfied, then paint the milky white series.

I wont recommend using sealer as it will be expensive. And is oil based, so the drying process will be slow after each coat ... overnite.

maxilite is indoor. I meant outdoor (acrylic paint) - anything much cheaper than brand name weathershield/weatherbond etc ?
*
Maxilite can also be used for outdoor. Is economical.

Dont expect other normal wall paint to last longer than special formulated outdoor paint. Is called weathershield for a reason.

Any cheaper normal wall paint can also be used for exterior but are not able to withstand harsh weather condition.

For me, is either economical or weathershield. In between is a waste of money.

Wow how many months maxilite last outdoors when you use? Before algae, mould or peel off?
*
Depends on wall preparation b4 painting.

Surrounding area also play a role which causes algae and mould. If maxilite is painted indoor, there is no algae except for fading.

Same for other normal paints too.

Peeling off is because of wall condition. A hairline cracked wall allow water to penetrate and causes paint to peel off. Painting during wet days also affect finishes.

Painting looks simple but if one wants a long lasting paint job, skilll and experienced is expensive. Not forgetting the quality of paint.

finally, im so gald to got somebody answering me, over the moon now~
its a subsale house, it already occupied with some former owner furniture inside( i means sofa already in the living room, guess water jet is habis no choice liao)
will consider sealer as first choice, we got 3 months time for it to dry  blush.gif

afraid layering of maxlite will come off if too many layers, i think maxlite need at least 4 layers bha to finally cover the pink, not mention that i got another intense purple wall in the room cry.gif  cry.gif
*
For that colour, 1 coat of sealer is not enough. Also need at leat 2 to 3 coats.

Sealer is expensive but if you have the budget and time, go ahead.
