@bensow

nice haha.....your aro's long fins have beautiful colors biggrin.gif
how come got one tile at the corner there wan?

@wmkr
hehe thx for the tips biggrin.gif

i've seen the red lights on the black water....its literally red lol..like blood red...asif the water is bloody laugh.gif
but i wont wana play with the ketapang leaves le....cuz i'm aiming for stability rather than best desired conditions.
my aro is doing very well with its current conditions, now just waiting to get the arcadia tube so that i can start experimenting on the tanning biggrin.gif

i think there is also sun-glow which i believe is the most natural sunlight type can get but like....extreme rare case...cuz i went around the other day...max i was able to find was arcadia uv tanning lol
summore need to order >.<" just waiting for that call zzzzzz whistling.gif

@frenly

i dun there is for gold lol...dun think gold needs much tanning rather just normal white tfc light will do guah

They shine best under white light, but while they are young and you wana get them yellow gold looking then use the yellow light tubes loe...

as far as i know, only reds have tanning needs lol

@bensow
i fish at taman desa 'fishing sport'
unless you wana seriously go for the really fresh prawnies and dun mind having to kill them...as in cut them up alive or give them sub-zero freeze death (poor things :'( ) and also dun mind paying rm15 per hour...then come join me lol, i only go like once a month or so wan laugh.gif

for eathworms ar...try to put them in a container with like 1 mm of water for the amt you wana feed...and leave the rest in the dirt first...cuz by putting them in the 1mm water they will by the next day have probly poo out most of the soil in their bodies....

cuz to my experience ar...these earthworm they got those soil trapped inside their bodies wan ar...the aro eat it will also poo out the sand and then you have sand lingering around at the bottom of your tank...have to literally use a dustpan to sweep the soil up and throw away >.<"

Added on July 4, 2010, 4:13 pmi just was thinking of something...

ye know rite...my water in the tank goes like in a clockwise circular manner....the water pump and the positions of the outlet house from the dual canisters support this...

when my fishes poo rite...on heavy loads...they poo is like rotating round and round in the middle of the tank...

will take some time before its actually gone...

does anyone experience this?

what i was thinking of maybe i can connect a hose to the water pump with a thin cloth sock at the end of the tube to suck all the poo into the sock thingy...where the tube end is at the middle of the tank and the other connected to the suction area of the water pump.....and then extract it like that...through the sock

cuz currently i'm using the water pump directly connected to the sponge to provide some filtration and water circulation...

any better ideas?

hmnn there are other places as well for fishing but not sure if they have prawn fishing

the road is 'jalan desa' at taman desa

its off jalan klang lama....have to turn in from there on your way you will see taman desa medical center (hospital) on the right...just keep going straight up till you see its 'fishing spot' very big sign laugh.gif

i think cheras got more fishing spots but i not sure if got prawn fishing loe :S

the fishing spot i go to they give you the rod and the bait is just rm1

its basically just a long rod that has a fishing string attached to it and at the end a mini hook

we cut out the bait (chicken heart) into tiny little pieces and just place it right at the hook's edge

then we put it in...wait for the float to sink in to indicate that the bait has been taken and then we give a gentle nudge to hook the prawn and just lift it up

unlike fishing...there is no reeling...no hard flicking to hook and no loooong waiting....well not as long as fishes anyways...unless to like my experience all caught by those pro bastards everyday go fishing nothing better in life to do kind ppl...

my suggestion ar if you wana go prawn fishing around here in k.l and selangor (as in pay per hour type) ....before you start fishing...just in and go around to observe first...

ask politely the ppl there how their catch is....if they have alot...egoistically they will lift up and show you their proud massive batch of prawns caught.....just look at those with cheeky/happy faces...if more than 3 ppl with massive batch of catch....then don't fish....cuz chances are....they already have caught 90% of the batch...laugh.gif

lol i'm not a regular fishing person so i wont know lol...i just go nearby my house area which is tmn desa...

As for the rods for fishing there i have no idea....i dun fish much...cuz i dun really like to eat fish most of the time..unless its steamed (pricey)

i only do the prawn fishing cuz its fun and its a the freshest way to get good fresh prawns for my aro

like yesterday i fed my aro with the smallest one (size of bala shark...slightly bigger) live after removing all the pincers and so on laugh.gif

the prawns there are like mini lobsters...
not sure what its called...but i just basically know them as prawns...

the prawns we buy from super markets or pasar pagi which u can buy a kilo for rm10 or so or if they nice give rm5 for 1/2 kilo...are like prawns with no pincers and all...just regular market prawns...

the ones there i catch in tmn desa are like the crayfish that our long time no hear from silent Daniel mentioned and showed in his pictures befure...got pincers and all...almost like lobster...only bigger than what he showed

no its a little back....from the water park...i think...

use these cordinates 3.097357,101.689828
hope that helps

easiest way to describe to you is just from klang lama...drive up jalan desa all the way straight....its impossible to miss the sign board "fishing sport" its so big it can hold 5 ppl surfing on it...

[[and the prawn look like this?

hmnnn....adding the air pump there will only just make the poo fly up and circulate back the middle lol

how do you guys circulate your water and ensure the poo gets sucked into the filter fast and effectively?

ok...so i came up with this totally out of the box solution to clear up the poo real fast....

instead of letting it idle around at the middle bottom circulating.....and i didnt even need to change the flow direction ... tongue.gif

you will see in the video below...but first

here's my catch of the day blush.gif

i know..i know...i sux sweat.gif

and here's the live prawnie...with all the edges trimmed off....bad to behead it afterwards cuz looking at it...i doubt the head cud be swallowed hahaha...it's got a larger head than usual >.<

user posted image

as you can see...this one i picked for my aro's dinner of the day due to its small body size but more importantly...packed with busting loadsa prawnnie eggs!!!

and here is the video...presenting my genius idea of clearing poo poo fast ^^

@bensow

the floating bio-balls serve 3 purposes
1) they help give something for aro to watch out for when swimming (cuz bio balls mainly float on top) thus the aro will look up more often than down
2) it provides surface area for bb to stay in...altho not much....so its kinda like mobile bb
3) it was initially used to help me find dead spots where water is not moving in the tank...where they linger around the most and not spinning much = dead water circulation spot
it also tells where the waves are moving around in the middle of the tank too when it sinks every once in a while....so basically it gives good indications
4) i just like to see it floating around like that...just my kinda thing laugh.gif dunno why...i just see some art in it...the way it floats around and sinks in and rotates and floats back up and spirals around endlessly rclxub.gif

haha noler, i just used the ball initially to find dead spots, now i just leave em there to help prevent de
i did leave a corner with very slow and low current flow for the aro to rest at xD

yeah the filter i have double (invested into a lot of those ehiem filter media sweat.gif ), i thinking of even adding in an over head filter ....but like i dun think my hood has much space inside for that wink.gif

i use aged water from the danki water stored above the house lol
my wc schedule is 30% every saturday
sometimes i will do on wednesday if i feel up to it but saturdays is a must even if i'm cold/sick/beaten down or anything hahahaha

i love my red wub.gif

--------------------------------------------------------

i wonder if we can use test tube to mix silver with red and gold etc and see how it comes out like lol

imagine silvers with red scales and red cheeks or gold and got blue base....or even high back and all.....laugh.gif

But if you use tangki water is not 100% aged right? cuz just say your tangki water is 1m cube can just take your bath in the morning and use 200 liters or water....means your tangki will be filled with 200 liters of new water..... meaning not 100% aged water right?

I would like to get a Red arowana too....and a cross back but no $$
*
lol its 100% aged ler....its definitely more aged than i take direct from the main pipe water outside....

when i take bath the water is from the tap water direct...not from the danki water biggrin.gif

there are only 2 pipes connected to this danki water source (middle upper toilet = the one i use) and master bedroom toilet....and barely anyone uses the danki water storage in my house besides me for my fish wc laugh.gif

also my danki water is like i think is about 1800L of water so there's plenty of aged water

of course it wud be safer to have 100% guaranteed aged water where you are in direct control of it and able to observe it too, but u will need to have a separate tank for that...

unfortunately i have neither the money nor space to do so.....so my danki water tank is good enuf for me tongue.gif its been doing fine for 2 years and my fish have never gotten chlorine poisoning
so its absolutely no issues for me

unless you have your tank outside where you can have 3ple tier tanks (upper tank for aging water, middle for your aro, bottom for sump). But i want my aro in my bedroom so that is of course a nono..

wc 100%....mmm...more like 80% wc (impossible for 100% cuz u will not have any place to put aro unless u wana keep bagging it everytime you wana do wc lol)

....imo...do not go for that unless you have a spare tank or large enough container to house water for aging and conditioning...

remember this, aro's are very hardy fishes....but the one thing its very vulnerable to and 2nd highest reasons for aro death is "PH SHOCK"

and also in the case of doing 80% wc, in the tank where you are keeping the aging water to be conditioned ....it also needs to have 'strong aeration' ....the water needs to be as aerated as much as possible cuz if you wana jump to that huge a wc, the fish will not be able to extract the oxygen fast enuf and can likely suffocate to death...

other than that is the massive temperature change...do condition the water to be at the same temperature...least likely in normal 20-30% wc but very likely in this 80% huge amt of water change

just my 2 cents on the precautions of performing this so called 100% wc (more like 80%, its illogical to have 100%)

to my experience...most ppl say this like its so easy but funny enough not much dare to really do it...

Added on July 8, 2010, 1:21 amas for those arowana breeding biz....and all the mlm conspiracy stuff...

in my opinion, unless you are already wealthy and have a lot of experience running businesses...and plz note...i meant "Businesses" (Many....as in multi tasking one biz with others)

dont bother to go venturing into it...tho passion is there, there are too much ppl i've known who have invested and lost their money...

too easy to cheat...

if you really wana go into the biz of aro breeding....first...be able to sustain yourself comfortably without the need to have to work...as in...you already have enough passive income to give you a comfortable (to your expected level) life....

then for the extra money you have only then u should invest into this kinda business....cuz thats what this biz is....absolutely wealthy to the point u can sustain losses from year to year till the business picks up....this aint those fast paced biz where ppl think that every batch of fries they hatch will successfully live

those established farms make it look so easy cuz they are very very experienced, they know the harvest time down to the minute...not just the day...
and also if you know those experts well enough, they will tell you that when they first started many long long years ago the first few years they had many unsuccessful hatchlings where practically almost 1/2 the stock of fries died and they took damn long to recover the initial investment...which believe me...can go up to millions...

...just ask yourself...are you able to 'currently' live with having to loose rm100-500k per year and not feel damn depressed and give up on it from year to year and be so heart strong to be able to keep funding till the biz really kicks in...lol

if you can....plz let me know...i'm interested to assist biggrin.gif

well..thats my way to put the 'realism' into all this aro breeding biz...
