anyone please recommend me what size of aquarium i should buy for my pearl arowana.for long term use and won't upgrade size anymore .4ft is it enough ?

For me, every types of arowanas got it's own special characteristics and beauty.
No metter it is silver aro or x-back aro, as a hobbyist i am still loving them and they are attractive too.

Last week i had bought a new baby pear arowana (Jardini), it is around 3inches.
But it is very timid and easy to frighten..so i am still not able to take his photos.

Well i'm not sure bout any 'arrow head'. what i know is that, ammonium diluted in water becomes ammonia. and ammonia cannot be eliminated from the water, but it can be oxidised to nitrite. and futher nitrite can be oxidised to nitrate(fertilizer), a much less harmful element too fish.

If ur tank water is completely stale, u shudn't worry about ammonia fluctuation. ammonia will only fluctuate few days after a water change if more than 50% water is changed. and a week after the ammonia fluctuates, it will start settling whereby, now the nitrite level will start rising.

therefore 1/3 of water change every fort night is recommended and never clean ur filter the same time during water change. leave a week in between wc and cleaning filter. this is to avoid loosing too much 'good' bacteria(nitro-bacter & nitro-somonus) at the same time.

this is why a lil aquarium salt is added after a water change. this is to reduce the effect of nitrite to the fish. FYI nitrite can cause gill infection to ur fish and ur fish will be forced to surface more often to get oxigen directly from the atmosphere. this can eventually cause fatality to ur fish when the infection worsen. ammonia also as equally bad as it can cause ammonia poisoning to the fish.

also make sure the water is sufficiently circulated to ensure enuf oxygen supply for under-lying bacteria.  loosing a large amount of bacteria due to sudden poor water circulation also can cause ammonia fluctuation and and soon after, nitrite fluctuation.

try researching more on nitrogen cycle in fish tank. a good understanding about nitrogen cycle, can help overcome many issues in this hobby. a good establisment of a balanced nitrogen cycle in ur tank will also ensure a stable and close to ideal ph and hardnesses.

Arghh guys I need to know more about gill curl disease!!! I'm scared my arowana have it as I have never seen a close up picture of gill curl except those serioud gill curl which I duwan it to happen i need a picture or detailed description since it starts pls... I read many description I still dun understand.... Can u guys prepare a check list so that I can check my arowana if he has gill curl? He is a 28cm Silver around 5 months old(grow VERY FAST)
