Yea, Anyway, The Aros here very expensive, like my RTG cost more than 1k.. Dang.. Big Knife Chop. lol. I was juz wondering how u guys change the aquarium's water? I mean, do you take out the fish then drain the water? Or left some water in the tank with the fish inside, then pour in water and Chlorine?

It doesnt effect the fish? I mean, u pour chlorine 1st, then tap water, really okay?
*
no i dont put Chlorine 1st then tap water...that is 100% sure disaster case.

I put Anti-Chlorine first, wait for 1 minute, then i go fetch the water hose (connected to my danki water) and pour loh.
But the flow rate i let into the aq is just moderate, not at max. takes about 30-40minz to fill back 20% water taken out.

Not sure about this method for those direct from water pipe cuz danki water is basically sorta like aged water also.

The anti-chlorine i using is nutrafin brand. been good so far.
I read up that prime dechlorinator is also good but cant really find in msia market here..

Here is how i do it....

20% every 4 days..

Im also using the reserve water from the tank located at the roof top...

All the same like Leong except the AC part, I put them into the filter tank when i have fully replace the water...
let the pump pump it in to the aquarium slowly bit by bit... smile.gif ta da....
*
yeah, the water reserve (usually located at housing roofs) are more preferred cuz its sorta aged. safer brows.gif

I use Genesis as anti chlorine...1 drop per gallon...i buy one bottle and it can last me 1 year....i have two 4'x2'x18" and 3 normal 2 feet tanks counting on the genesis haha....  i just siphon out 15% of the water....add genesis....and fill the aquarium with tap  water.... im using the tap from the garden... im not sure whether its from the tangki of direct from outside..... and add salt..... works fine for me.....

and yea.... i think he meant anti-chlorine
i would like to know which is the best way to get your arowana to grow big fast.... and improve colour>? dont count genes....although 70% of the arowana depends on it... i would like to discuss the other 30%

what i have in mind.....for colour....its food and lighting....... for size..... it is water flow rate, tank size and food.....

any comments?

i read market prawns do good for coloring.

carrots and hikari pellets imo shud be good too but hard to train the aro to take in, so i resort to indirect method by feeding the cricket/worm with the carrot/hikari sticks and then after they finish then directly feed to the arowana biggrin.gif laugh.gif

and of course clean water

Im having a hard time feeding my aro with Hikari, it doesnt even bother to LOOK at it.. lol

Added on March 4, 2010, 7:40 pmAnd oh, i mean Anti-Chlorine, lol. 4got the "Anti" word. We dont want that in the aqua would we. xD

feed the hikari sticks to the worms and crikets, right after the insects are done eating, straight away feed to the arowana while the insect still full of hikari lol.
That way the arowana wont know its eating whats good for it icon_idea.gif

Totally reduce the ammonia production there man, i think the chillids really too messy lol altho they gave a nice contrast to the black background

hehe later when i back home 1st biggrin.gif
i noticed that my aro eats only certain amount lol...after its full it wont bother to look at the food anymore >.<
Quite disciplined imo hehe

I measured my dKH, constant 2 drops ( according to the lfs at oug, they said that is 1dkh) so instead of baking soda i using the azoo kh up, just slowly increasing the kh by 0.3 or so per day till it reaches 3dKH to be safe biggrin.gif

So i was thinking, maybe i should buy a new tank to raise freshwater prawn. So my fish wont get bored of bugs only. would that be nice? But then, have 2 buy new filter and all sorts. =.= And do KL have any river to catch prawn i wonder?
*
lol not that i know off, are you referring to the krill aka ghost shrimps?
If so to share my experience with you, its really difficult to do that, need very good filteration and the feed for the new fry is a bit expensive, need those grinded brime shrimp....and the filteration must be really good, the amount they produce wont be enough to supply to arowana wan, this is from my experience lol

yeah...if you wana starve em together will be difficult...i suggest putting them in seperate tanks for starving and hikari sticks training,...

when they hungry, they get stressed and then everything looks like food to them :S

surprise, me too..... im using dolphin and teh whole glass and the wall of the canister is covered with thick layer of brown algae after 2 months i think..

Added on March 8, 2010, 11:04 pmand im having slime problems..

my aquarium silicone sealant is covered with white like thingy and its easily removed but it will come back after 2 to 3 days and the best part is, only the silicone sealant... fish seems healthy though... sigh.... doesnt seemed like algae though....
*
yah i also have that white slime thingy....i dont think that one is related to the uv filter tho lol, cuz i havent been using mine and i also have...
i think the white slime is like the excess protective slime coating thats in the water. Sometimes the ac we use does provide slimecoat properties and thus the excess get stuck to the silicone guah hmm.gif

yeah i guess uv filter is extra cost.....the reason i asking is cuz i was just wondering if it actually is good for the water or not.

logically...if its turned on...anything including free floating beneficial bacteria (bb) is killed in the water...and i dont think thats a good thing lol but the parasites are killed too which also helps :S

but then again if the uv filter is turned on then the only bb remaining are only at the filter media in our filters bb housings.

ya but it also kill the free floating bb that helps with the nitrification processes as well :S
Without those free floating bb (specifically referring to nitrobacter) to help with the final step of converting the nitrates to nitrogen, the nitrates are left in the water accumulated till we do the wc (20% weekly).

so i guess using uv filter can be a bit of delima >.<
