I got my WhatsApp when it was still free. That time they said it doesn't work on Msia but then again it does back then smile.gif
So far I personally think that it's way better than Ping and BBM. One is that it just searched based on the phonebook. If ping you need to ask first if anyone installed one and another is that what is the username. Kinda leceh. Sometimes you can't keep track of your phonebook on who have the iphone or not. BBM the leceh part is need to get the number.
Maybe the possible drawback of Whatsapp is that sometimes you don't want to give your number to others but just want to give them your ID which Ping will make perfect sense. Then again what are the chances of every single one person have an Iphone with ping installed and with you not wanting to give your number to them? Unlikely...

Oh thx for the info! I think it was just released recently only is it? I've just checked it out, it's $2.99 for BB whatsapp.. was hoping I could text my BB frens but the BB version is quite pricey compared to the iPhone's ><

Is ur fren from SG using the whatsapp smoothly without any issues?

It's another totally different apps? I assumed either BB whatsapp will work only for whatsapp and BBM and normal whatsapp only for whatsapp? I wished they just integrate both. Then I just need to upgrade this one sad.gif

So BB user need to have Whatsapp for BB? If they are offering it free maybe alot of BB user will download it to the benefit of growing iPhone Whatsapp fanbase. Quite a number of BB users are there for the BBM instead of normal "office" usage I think.

i've install Whatsapp but i put in a different mobile number, and it still works, basically your username is actually your phone number or whatever number u key in

Yes, that's right. So if your friend have your number it will check if that number is registered or not and they can text you instantly on Whatsapp. As long as you put in any different number but still yours should be fine. Otherwise it will create domino effect..haha.

No idea on that but then again I'm using it only in Wifi spots here except when I'm in Malaysia. So far it's great since I bought 2 phones for me and my gf and occasionally chatted up with my colleagues. Can't gauge it pretty well unless I communicated alot with it.

Just curious.  What is the different between WhatsApp and other Internet Messenger?

I told my friends about it and they all asked me, why go and buy WhatsApp when we all can sms, call and login to Internet Messenger.  Somemore Internet Messenger can connect to other friends who are on their COMPUTER and not limited to just friends using WhatsApp.

Not everyone using it, so my friends from IM might be 50 and now left to about 5?

If we say it is free, it still consume our 3G data usage and I still have to pay for using it.

Please enlighten me.  Interested but yet not sure what the purpose of it.

Whatsapp uses mobile no for "identification" kinda thing so if let say one of your circle of friends have an iPhone and installed Whatsapp it will automatically detect it without the need to exchange email address/id. I would say it pretty much depends on your need as well.
If you are still studying it might not be that clear yet since I still remember when I was studying everyone was limited to YM/MSN kinda thing but once you started working with alot of contact everywhere Whatsapp is one of a good tool to keep in touch without the need to pay for international SMS. When you met someone new IRL normally you will exchange phone no and not email ID since it's alot easier, faster and practical so if it happen they are on iPhone later and using Whatsapp it will automatically detect it.
One reason why I prefer Whatsapp rather than Ping! since it's using mobile no instead of ID

I have a few friends who bought BB simply for BBM. It's an alternative way to contact people.

My advice would be do not turn on data roaming when abroad at all cost.
Use sms instead as it will be cheaper. Or if you need to use it get a prepaid simcard in those countries. I spend 10 month every year working everywhere so the best would be just get a prepaid simcard. Certain countries have incredible deal for data plus sometimes cheaper to send sms from those numbers instead
Apart from that you need to remember that there are alot of background activities that use the Internet feature in iPhone so you can't control it. The price stated in the website is true and it might seems low but when it all added up, you can easily have 4 reaching 5 figures for phone bill.

I have same version as yours but push works well even as we speak now. Maybe under your Setting>Notifications>Whatsapp?

Yes it would work. The person will rcv the msg just like sms which will display your number but without name. The way whatsapp work is just like sms on the front where you can see if the msg sent to server, delivered to user etc

How to change display pic .
*
1) Your display pic depend on if you store your own name and put a pic associated with it.
2) Other person display pic depend what you use as their pic when you store their phone no
3) Your display pic is not going to display on another person phone if they just simply store your name

If you picked the opiton it will scan your phone book and will automatically add those that have Whatsapp installed. No need to manually add since they don't use username etc

is it normal when i have connected to whatsapp with green 'connected' network status, i close the app, then when i reopen the app the network status will show it as 'connecting' with the spinning circle next to it? i tot it was supposed to stay connected in the background?

im using maxis 3g 500mb plan
*
Yes normal but you need to enable push notification in order for push to work.

Yeah, i got mine free as well on promotion biggrin.gif Early adopters pays as somehow I know this can be a big hit as it doesn't require username/pin no etc
