Huh .. are you guys live near their exchanges? attenuation lower than 10 and SNR better than 30 .. anyway, for me, my SNR & attenuation were worst than your guys have but when they upgraded my line to 4Mbps package, the SNR/attenuation somehow changed to much better values too.. I guess that is why they said that they need to test your line first .. they need to move the port over to better system/connection I guess.

SNR Margin (dB):  29.8  30.4
Attenuation (dB):  40.5  21.0

Can 4Mb expert look at my statistic?

Prasys, how you get capped at 5?
*
Shouldn't be a problem with your SNR/Att. values methink.. I had almost the same values when I was using 1.5Mbps before. Anyway, to get the 5Mbps .. you need to ask them to put you into higher than 4Mbps .. tell them your download speed is much less than the advertised speed and they'll cap you higher.. I was told to do this after three weeks though... smile.gif

Just called them today, I think the 3 weeks waiting period is up now smile.gif They'll see on why I'm getting less than 2Mbps while using their bandwith test (download speed is around 1700kbps at time, latency 17ms, upload speed at 400kbps). I was talking to the second level support and they'll either recap me at dslam to higher speed or will send someone to investigate. They were talking about the phone wire split .. but I believe that should not be a problem since speedtest.net gave me around 3.4Mbps (tho' their speedtest giving half of the value).. will wait for few days on what action they've done and see if mine can be improved..

Why don't you use the one provided by TM? I got it for free .. but looking at the specs, your modem might be able to take the 4Mbps w/o problem. Anyway, the technician will come to your house, bringing their modem and make a necessary adjustment and shouldn't take a week to have it tested.

Nope, at least not on mine .. the only downtime is when the guy came, disconnect my router from the modem and asking my PC directly connected to the modem.. somehow, the guys said .. I want to bypass your router (for whatever reason .. smile.gif) ..

Technician coming to my house today to check whether i can support 4mbps or not. Actually how they check?
*
They didn't check using fancy equipment .. hehe.. they'll come to your house.. ask your modem to directly connected to your PC running Windows and they'll see if they could connect to the net. If you're near the exchange, they will not go to that roadside cabinet at all, they'll call up the exchange guy and asked them to give your port a 4096 speed. They'll jot down the SNR and Attenuation .. and say if it is okay. When they satisfied with the value, they'll say, wait for few days and you'll be on 4Mbps..

BTW, can someone with 4Mbps do me a favour, please do a speedtest using TM Speedometer to their Brickfield server and let me know if you pass the 2Mbps mark. I believe the reading given by this speedometer is wrong..

Ah, the TM technician just called, they said my account has been upped to 5Mbps but doing a test run, I'm still getting max 1800kbps .. so I've told him to check with the exchange if they could up the port speed.. he said he couldn't .. but I told him, when I was at my previous house, they could up it to 8Mbps and someone here has his at 5Mbps. Will see how it goes.. if nothing could be changed, I guess I'll just have to live with 3.5Mbps download.

Technician came just now, he tested with his account and modem, can't even touch 0.7mbps shakehead.gif He even said his account can go up to 10mbps, but speedtest can't even touch 0.7 doh.gif

I use my account can go up to 1.5mbps sweat.gif  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

He some more ask me how come not working, i tot he should tell me why not working doh.gif
*
Just off the phone with TM tech, he tested my account .. using his modem/pc direct at the port from the exchange .. and couldn't get 4Mbps .. the max he could get is around 1400kbps using TM speedometer .. he tested using P1Max speedtest and P1Max giving around 2000-3000kbps only.

Asked him, why not put me at higher speed's port.. he said, everybody with 4Mbps package goes to the same segment, couldn't put me into higher one .. probably, they don't have it at Sg Buloh exchange. So I guess I need to live with whatever I have right now.

So, from this .. I can conclude:

1. TM Speedotest doesn't work if you want to test 4Mbps line
2. Depending on your area, they might have > 4Mbps ports and if you're lucky, they'll put you to that port
3. If P1Max has tower beside your home, might as well POTONG and go to P1Max .. hehehe..
4. The installer that came to our house sometime knows nut about the system...

But where do you guys apply for RM150/mth?

I can't find that package anywhere, even at the promotions here: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1236557
Streamyx website also lists it at RM268/mth with modem.

Technician just came and went. Tested 4MB (at 4096) and it was ok. The he upped it to 5120 and speedometer results were at 4.4MB. I'm very happy! I did ask him if he could cap it higher but he said for copper cables, unlike fiber, the speed is limited. So I'll just have to be happy with that. Anyway, I'm back at my original 1.5MB speed now but he said the speed will be upgraded within 24 to 48 hours. Woohoo!
*
What is your location? The Sg Buloh tech. is still refusing to up the port speed to 5120.. 4.4Mbps is just right..!

Hmm, TM guy called me this morning and asking how the speed like .. hehe.. I thought he already got the info from the technician .. guess not.. asked the guy, why can't the tech. increased the speed of the port at Sg Buloh while the rest could do that? I guess the tech. at Sg Buloh needs to be sent for further training ..

Anyway, do you know that TM is now using P1 Speed Test for testing the 4Mbps speed? Anything above 3200kbps is considered ok according to them.. Ouchh.. P1 = POTONG? .. tak takut kena potong ka? smile.gif

The guy said that he'll get back to me after he talks to the tech. I believe he'll said that nothing much could be done on their end.

What is the reason when at the beginning the ping & download at speedtest are very fast above 4M & within the range, but after sometimes within an hour, speedtest is getting slower & slower, it may go under 1M after a few hours... After restarting the modem, it picks up the speed again but soon it deteriorates again.. & need to restart again & again..  rclxub.gif

Are you running any torrent clients in the network? What kind of router/modem do you have there? Does this problem persist if you're connecting direct from your PC to modem?

Reason being, when using torrent on some of the routers, too many connections done by the torrent client will hit hard on any router. One way to solve this problem is to put a limit in your torrent client.

If the above don't apply to you, check the values returned by your modem (SNR margin & line attenuation) if they're changing (SNR dropped really bad).. if yes, then probably your line wouldn't stand the 4Mbps and probably need to downgrade.

Just? If it means yesterday, then you need to wait a bit longer because of the long weekend holiday.. took mine more than a day to get assigned to 115. I don't do gaming (tho' my children do) .. so, I'm okay with 115 .. just that, I'm still not that satisfy when some of you are getting > 4Mbps and me and some of us here got stuck with 3.5Mbps.

Guys, the line capping is done by TM or their technician thru the DSLAM?

I asked the technician who came over to check my line status and he told me it is all done by KL, he cannot set it for me.

Is this true??
*
The capping is done centrally .. this capping is on your account. Another one at exchange/DSLAM side .. it is not actually capping but they could put your at higher port (or they might be able to change the port speed???). You need both to get > 4Mbps..

ip has nothing to do with ur speed. just call 100 and request a technician. be nice to him and ask him to make your connection 5Mbps.

wait 2-3 hours and done smile.gif
*
How nice you want it to be? smile.gif I'm too nice, I let them have my password and for them to test the speed at the exchange.. but they kept telling me that they only have 4Mbps port and can't do much about it. I'm yet to raise my voice with any of them yet .. playing nice now .. hehe.. but why others could get the 5120 kbps port and not me? Why even Dozz in KK can get it but not me at Sg Buloh, a stone throw from KL? Is the tech just trying to play hard? I'll surely won't let them close the report until I get the speed like the rest of you .. and playing nice at the same time smile.gif
