This looks like my speed tests.

We are supposed to get 512kbps up. Does anyone actually get that speed? My ADSL line is capped high enough to support it, but when I use speedtest.net or TM's speedtest (or just transfer files) it appears that I have a 384kbps uplink.

Are we all in the same situation? Are they deceptively marketing the 4mbps service?

Some info for people already on rm160 package who want to get their rate changed to rm140.

I went to TM Point today to try to do this.

If you already on Blockbuster package (free fixed-line calls in Malaysia, free cordless phone, free wifi modem) then the change should appear automatically on your bill next month, nothing more to do.

If you are on Combo package (the one that came before the Blockbuster package), then you have to go to TM Point to change. There will be no interruption in service, but an installer will come to deliver the wifi modem and you have to pay rm88 for that. There seems to be no way around this charge, even if you don't want the new modem. Also your contract period will be reset to one year from the date you change to the Blockbuster package @ rm140. They said that since I am a foreigner I can get out of the contract if my employer posts me out of Malaysia.

Nope, only Blockbuster package.

Of course, it's possible that the people at TM Point were wrong, but I did ask several times and asked her to check with her colleagues to be absolutely certain (since in my experience everyone has a different answer at TM).

Let me know how it goes. I don't want the new modem, don't want an installer visit, don't want to pay RM88, and don't want a new contract, but they sure made it seem like that was the only way. Maybe I should have just waited to see what happened on the bill.

How do you reach premium support anyway? Whenever I try they say there is no such thing anymore.

What's going on is that you are placing too much faith in speedtest.net. To reliably assess your transfer speed, download files and see for yourself how fast it is.

No, but they both mean the quality is marginal - barely working, and if any other factor gets in the way it can easily stop working.

For what it's worth, I'm on 218.111 and get 500KB/s downloads.

My DSL line, as reported by the modem, is at 5120.

I ran the TM speedtest right now, it reported 4258.

When I download from major sites (Sourceforge, etc.) the speed hovers between 480 and 510 KB/s.

I've never seen 512kbps upload speeds on Streamyx 4mbps service - mine or anyone else's. Does anyone actually get those speeds?

Bad modem, or bad cable. Check the DSL line stats to get a better sense of what's going on.

I completed my contract many years ago and they still want me to pay RM88 to change to the blockbuster plan. I will earn it back in 4.5 months so it's worth it, but still, that is not what we were promised in the fancy speech.

I haven't called the contractor to confirm my appointment yet, so it still hasn't happened. But yeah, I went to two different TM Points and they both said the same thing. They say it's because I am getting a new modem. But I don't want a new modem. My old TM modem is perfectly fine. It's such a stupid waste. I am hoping I can sell it back to the contractor or something. I am definitely not going to let him install it in any case; I don't want anyone messing with my setup.

Are you sure your filters are installed correctly?

And you didn't have to pay RM88 for the useless new modem + technician visit?
