hi guys,
i would like to try n since i m a beginner i decide to use a small tank. wud appreciate your advises...
tank : 10 liters subscrate : ADA gravel : buy from shop light : approx 10W type of plant : wud like to try small carpet plants, eg hairgrass or HC extra : tetra nitrate minus, water conditioner
how i set-up : 1. set substrate on bottom of tank. how much shd i put? in inches... 2. rinse gravel n set on top of subsrate, approx 1", is it enough? shd i mix with some substrate to make up 2nd layer?
my questions : 1. filter, how big or how many liters water flow shd i choose for my small tank? 2. i will try to look for Tetra nitrate minus in granule form and spread on 2nd layer of gravel, and then add another layer of gravel. is it ok?
i use the method i found in youtube as i didn't know how, is it ok? i have not tot of CO2 as i believe my tank is small, shd i also buy CO2? wat temp shd i keep d water? ideal ph level? if i use tap water n just add water conditioner, is it ok? i intend to just keep a few shrimps in d tank, no fish.
appreciate your adv n feedback....

[quote=pinchboyz,Dec 5 2009, 09:44 PM] 1) why u wanna put gravel on top of ADA aquasoil? 2) what is tetra nitrate minus ? with a develope and healthy bacteria system, u dun need tat 3) CO2? since u mentioned hairgrass, is a CO2 must must plant
hi pinchboyz,
thks for your reply... like i said, a newbie...saw it on youtube...how to set up a planted aquarium. they put substrate at bottom n then top it with a layer of gravel...
wat u thk? no need gravel? just the layer of substrate will do?
d nitrate minus is to make sure tat food for algae is eliminated so tat algae will not gorw in your tank as said in youtube...

QUOTE(chuppy2 @ Dec 5 2009, 11:28 PM) @pskk, Don't rely on chemicals, it's only a temporary solution. PLUS, NO AQUARIUM IS ALGAE FREE. I dare anyone here say their tanks are algae free. Also, ADA soil is the "new" type of soil, it doesn't use that method where we put a clay based nutrient rich "soil" and cover with a layer of gravel.. that's the old skool method. Still can do. But NOT WITH ADA SOIL. Hope this helps. Oh, instead on relying on youtube, let's try reading around.. let's say.. www.my-mac.net ahaha tons of aquascaping based information you can find there. Drew hi chuppy, i dont understand wat u mean....so only use ADA soil....no need add any other layers? will try the link u adv...thks...

QUOTE(pinchboyz @ Dec 6 2009, 12:23 AM) hi chuppy2 & pinchboyz......... thks for the links.....i understand now......can i just ask how much is a CO2 system set-up, d most basic ( affordable also but good enough to use )? is there any other less costly alternative to ADA soil ADA power sand n d rest of ADA products for the tank eg, Penac P & W, Bacter 100, clear super, etc......the reason is i dont want to spend so much on 1st time n it turns out to be unsuccessful... am currently sourcing for a table/bench for the aquarium....will buy a 31ltr size.... thks again This post has been edited by pskk: Dec 7 2009, 12:36 AM
