HI all,

I just got my first gecko from mattemily.
He is very experienced with geckos and friendly person.
I am a newbie in this hobby.
previously has kept some fishes and hermit crabs, and the equipments like plastic containers and exo-terra dish and hiding rocks still can be use for geckos.

Thanks guys!

By the way, since I could not find any information whether they have been locally bred or not, I will stay put to the claim i.e. to be the first to hatch them in Malaysia. But if anybody got any VALID info with proof and such to contradict my claim, then I will withdraw it out from TGS. So do let me know alright.

Frankly, I hate such claim to be the first to hatch this and that because it makes me sound more like a moron. But that's how things are nowadays.

Yesterday wheeleris
Soon levis
Then amyaes

If I succeed to keep, breed and hatch all three species (amyae especially), then the rest of the not-so-easy Nephrurus sp. will bombard Malaysia into my facility. I want them all smile.gif.

Regards

I speculate maybe those who have attempted doing that successfully before you did it aren't talking much about it thinking it wasn't anything big anyway.
Something like I keep a chicken in the backyard, the chicken laid an egg and the egg hatched into a chick. yawn.gif

or

It happened before but no one documented it, but you did.

or

maybe at that point of time, no one really paid much attention to geckos as much as we all do today.
Back then hobbyist and keepers are just a niche group. Today with internet This information is spreading like crazy.

when i was in primary school i used to catch that lizards that can climb trees, and run really fast.
It's color ranges from black, grey, to brown. It has claws instead of padded toes, and slim body with a tail very much longer than the rest of its body, the length is slightly below 12 inches.

I show it to my classmates some call it biawak, and some call it cicak gobeng.
Whatever but I manage to tame it, and can held it in my hand without having it struggling to run away.

But really years back hardly anyone ever sees a lizard as a pet, with some exceptions for the iguana.

agree with u..i also years back keep it as u did..but never can tame them..how u did that?
*
It takes roughly a week plus of handling and feeding it with insects. i catch ants, crickets and sometimes young cockroaches to feed it.
Until a point i notice that little lizard in the plastic tank became a little lazy. Then i know it is on its way of being tamed, or maybe that lizard already get the idea of having food being hand feed to it, instead of having it to hunt for food. A lot of times the bugs i caught are already halfway dying because i hit it with newspaper before collecting them, which to the lizard is an easy prey.

It will bite sometimes, not as tame as leopard gecko yet, still manageable.

After about a month of keeping it I set it free again, because mom and my teacher keep on saying that it is not meant to be kept but belongs to the wild.

After all these years, I came to know about leopard gecko just about a month ago, I immediately bought one from mattemily. I have revived an interest i used to had since childhood, only difference is now with some money, I can take it to a bigger scale.

Good to know such speculations exist. I did state in my post that if anybody have any valid proof, I would take my claim down from my site.

You seem to know so much. Mind telling me how long have you been in the hobby again? Thanks

I may have kept our local lizards and biawak before, when I was young. I caught them by chance, some from my school field area, and some from the bushes near my previous house.

For leopard geckos I am just getting started.

Hi Chia, good to know. And I rest my case.

The reptiles you may have caught in the past were:
1. Calotes versicolor
2. Varanus salvator salvator

Be merry.

Calotes versicolor = malay name is cicak gobeng (picture source wikipedia)

Very common lizard, can be found almost anywhere in Malaysia around you hourse backyard, trees, bushes and sometimes can be spotted crossing the road. I have caught it several times before.

user posted image

Varanus salvator salvator = monitor lizard / biawak

I spotted them several times in the lake side of Subang Jaya park. It's length is slightly more than 1 meter, it can swim very well. It's too big for me to catch it!!! shakehead.gif But LOOK how tame it can become. That's A BIG LIZARD !!!

Also it is a very common species in Malaysia and can be spotted near a source of water such as lakes or rivers, they are highly intelligent creatures, and carnivorous. Local fishermen claims that this biawak normally got stuck on their fishing lines, or steals fish from fishing nets or fish traps because their front limbs and fingers are highly nimble.

Matt,

Apparently your mack snow drowned in the hatching process, because it must take it first breath that very crucial moment it wakes up from the incubation phase. I have observed other reptiles or even birds hatchings whereby, movement of eggs is visible, and then cracks, the crack later on become a hole, and the young crawl out head first to start breathing air.

Judging from the 2nd photo, you can see that the egg fluid, in the form of mucus wraps all over its face, nostrils and mouth, and therefore causing it unable breath. Cause of death asphyxiation, meaning suffocation, drowned or lack of oxygen by breathing difficulties.

Sorry about your case, it's been hard for you.

I wonder how can we help in the hatching phase?

Really? By the way you were plagiarizing from all over the internet with cool info and knowledge in this forum, I thought you were a pro smile.gif

Anyway, your animals (by visual) are:

1. hi yellow &
2. murphy patty

Regards
*
I am not plagiarizing. I am just sharing what I know, some of which I read from books and got advised from pros such as echosmiles, billygoatz and mattemily85.
I have experience in keeping pets like fish both freshwater and marine, hermit crabs, dogs, birds, hamsters and rabbits, occasionaly I have kept some lizards which I caught before.

As for leopard geckos, I am just getting started which is why I describe myself as a beginner, and I still got a long way to be pro. and still learning.

Good to know...

Added on April 20, 2010, 12:01 amBtw, have you found out those who bred knob tails first in Malaysia? You know, the ones who didn't make any records since these species are so easy to breed in our country. If so, let me know so that I can scrap my claims down the toilet.

Regards.
*
So far, none that I have heard of, you can still live up to your claims.

You and your gecko website is already in the spotlight like Star newspaper and on TV icon_rolleyes.gif , and if there is someone out there has done that before you did, for sure he/she or a local exotic pet supply company will be contacting you real soon, so you can remove those claims.

Just out of curiousity, does taking care of knob-tails are similar to taking of leopard geckos in terms of set-up, food and temperature?
