QUOTE(stringfellow @ Jan 7 2010, 06:06 PM)
Totally get ya on that "reliance" thing. I am proud to say that I have yet to succumb to such "reliance" till now, and plan to succeed only by my merit and value as a person/professional, than my race. Rare even to see someone of my race even contemplating of leaving this country, when my race is the one leeching the country and sucking it dry of supposed privileges. I'm more disgusted than feeling safe seeing how things are being run, when it comes to that "reliance" thing you mentioned. Some people cant shake off this feeling that they are "entitled" to certain things rather than having to earn those things instead.

I respect you for not relying on "reliance" to be sucessful.. but sadly cronyism can never be reduced a lot.. sad.gif

Cronism in Malaysia has roots into generations of people, from their granddads to their grandchildren. Eradication of an established mindset will always take time. Take the "original vs pirated" issue we face everyday here. Try extolling the virtues of original copies in the time where PS1 ori games are nonexistant, and see your pleas budging no one. See where we are now?

The same with something like cronism. TO me it is easy. I KNOW for a FACT that I cannot change people and their hard-set mindset, so I change MYSELF. That way, it becomes an example on how one can change for the better, without standing muck-deep in things that morally and lawfully wrong. It is when society can no longer differentiate between what is right and wrong, is when you are better off fending off for yourself, each man to his own kinda thing.

Added on January 7, 2010, 6:27 pmI give no two hoots about local politics here either, because I see it going nowhere. My laissez-faire attitude towards it already means that I hold no hope or give it a chance to move beyond the already deep hole these politicians have dug themselves into, so I let them roll around in their own created filth, and I avoid being pulled into the very same muck and filth they've created by separating myself from them. One way to do that is to leave.

QUOTE(stringfellow @ Jan 7 2010, 06:19 PM)
Then I guess, carry on. With or without your mom's consent. She' scolding your dad, not you, and if your dad is cool about it, then what is the problem? Sometimes the path to the truth is hard to come by, and shielding yourself from the harsh reality does not make the problem go away. Tell her that line you just typed, tell her that "when i grow up i would feel betrayed that my parents lied to me about everything."

Pikapi,

What does my profession have to do with getting "involved"? A lot of those in my line of work are very liberal, open-minded and sees through all these political dealings like secret handshakes under a glass table. It's the blessing (and a curse, sometimes) of being well-travelled and being given lots of chance to see what works and what does not in other countries. Unfortunately, in Malaysia, supression of "what works" made it too obvious to us that only certain "tiers of people" are set to reap the rewards and not a fair distribution of wealth, opportunities and privileges to every Malaysian.

Personally, I don't get involved. If others have political, or even intra-office aspirations inside "the Company", then it is their choice. Most if not all the time, their true intentions are so blatantly obvious that we just laugh in their faces when they try and be "political" and supposedly "self-sacrificing" in their aspiration for a post, or an office.

Oops...

By the way, my mother even did told my dad "If you don't like this country, then migrate."(My dad even said that she speaks like "the company".) But she admit that nothing can be done already, and she thinks that this is a more comfortable place to live in(compared to other countries).

P.S: i think my mom say this everytime when my dad rant about the political stuff. hmm.gif

I guess different people have different thresholds. As for being comfortable, it is easy to be comfortable. I can set up a lazy boy chair next to my porch, while diggers and construction machines rip apart my lawn, hey, if the people ripping apart my lawn gives me what supposedly look like "good compensation" (making you feel comfortable), some people will allow their lawns to be raped upon.

But where do you draw the line? How much would you allow these "rapist" rape your rights and privileges before you feel that it is no longer right? Some have lower or even no tolerances to all these bullshit, others let it be as long as they get their nasi lemak/prawn mee/roti canai every morning, and Astro Ria/Wah Lai toi/Vaanavil to watch everyday while their rights and privileges are stripped one by one.

I uproot myself away from all these silliness. And I'm thankful that I'm enjoying my own favourite things in life (Denny's amazing breakfast platters and HBO HD, not nasi lemak and Astro Ria tongue.gif) and still have my rights and privileges intact. At least if they are not firmly intact, there is some degree of accountability to it, unlike the Malaysian political scene.

Depressing isn't it? Something you'd have to attend to when you come back, Bluey.

Nope, not yet watch. It's in my repository drive though, gonna show the guys if they're interested and whose house to have the TV Night on.
