It looks like you got a faulty tyre, or one which had taken some serious abuse. Because from the picture it looks like a chunk of that tyre came off, and I don't anything on the road is capable of ripping that much rubber out. So it must've blown out.

Try sending it back to the manufacturer and ask a replacement. Don't bet on it though
