That is too much Hollywood. Tyre blowouts are never as climatic as seen on TV. All you hear is a little thub and flapping as the bits of tyre hits the wheel well.. and that's about it. There is no explosive blowing the tyre to shreds and no fancy flipping of cars over barriers.

Unfortunately most accidents from tyre blows are caused by the driver themselves. Most are due to panic and over compensation of the steering when the tyre deflates. Losing the front tyre will cause the car to pull to one side and most drivers over compensate and end up in the barriers. Problem.. driver... not tyre.

Most tyre blow outs will leave the carcass intact on the wheel. You just end up with a deflated tyre. Most hollywood and made for TV programs will blow the entire tyre off the wheel with explosive. That is not a normal tyre blowout unless you have an issue with people placing explosives on your tyres.

The danger comes when the whole carcass is shredded off. Some people drive for miles without knowing they have a deflated tyre, until the point where the whole carcass shreds off. At that point it becomes more dangerous as it is harder to control the vehicle. Again.. the problem is the driver.. not the tyre.

Added on November 24, 2009, 12:02 pmAfter looking at the tyre again, just realised you have one hell of a worn out patch near the hole. Didn't you notice that spot seems to have worn off so much that even the water channels are gone. First I thought it was just wrong camber but the worn patch is across the whole tyre. Just that one patch.
