as my experience.

You must hitting on something hard and unaware of it.

And also it might u already hit on something last time and already "bengkak" but u unaware of it. So when u travel longer the bengkak part wear and tear faster than other.

After sometimes it burst like ur picture.

This what my mecha explain to me when he check and found one of my tyre "bengkak"

actually, i just had my tyre alignment and balancing done 2 months ago.
while travelling North South Expressway on last Sunday, everything goes smooth in the beginning.
when nearing nilai exit, suddenly i heard a loud thud sound from the rear of my car and i start to hear some screetching sound and feel the steering very inbalance.
guess i must be hitting something hard to cause such a tear.

That is too much Hollywood. Tyre blowouts are never as climatic as seen on TV. All you hear is a little thub and flapping as the bits of tyre hits the wheel well.. and that's about it. There is no explosive blowing the tyre to shreds and no fancy flipping of cars over barriers.
*
u r absolutely rite.. I just hear some loud thud sound and then metal scretching sound. I'm not even aware that my tyre have burst till i stop and have a look at the emergency lane.. blush.gif

It does happen though. My best friend had tyre blowout while travelling at 120km/h on the highway, and the car (rental car) flipped over 3 times before landing upside down. He was lucky and escaped with just a mess of bruises and cuts all over (including multiple small cuts on his face).

I've also seen a BMW safety video of a tyre blowout at 80km/h (controlled test, using explosives to blow out the tyre). The result was that the car spun and ended up off-road (no flipping, no injuries).

holy shit.. guess my guarding angel is with me during that time... somemore, i'm travelling within the speed limit.. smile.gif

Unfortunately most accidents from tyre blows are caused by the driver themselves. Most are due to panic and over compensation of the steering when the tyre deflates. Losing the front tyre will cause the car to pull to one side and most drivers over compensate and end up in the barriers. Problem.. driver... not tyre.

Most tyre blow outs will leave the carcass intact on the wheel. You just end up with a deflated tyre. Most hollywood and made for TV programs will blow the entire tyre off the wheel with explosive. That is not a normal tyre blowout unless you have an issue with people placing explosives on your tyres.

The danger comes when the whole carcass is shredded off. Some people drive for miles without knowing they have a deflated tyre, until the point where the whole carcass shreds off. At that point it becomes more dangerous as it is harder to control the vehicle. Again.. the problem is the driver.. not the tyre.

Added on November 24, 2009, 12:02 pmAfter looking at the tyre again, just realised you have one hell of a worn out patch near the hole. Didn't you notice that spot seems to have worn off so much that even the water channels are gone. First I thought it was just wrong camber but the worn patch is across the whole tyre. Just that one patch.
*
what do you mean by worn out patch near the hole? sorry as I'm really a noob in car.. blush.gif

It looks like Nexen NS2000 tyre.  I used this tyre b4 and I changed it (all 4) after clocking 30K. Soft tyre.

i also  got look alike problem  2 weeks ago on east coast exp. the whole tyre tread went to shread just like tayar celup on a lorry.  i was  traveling 120 during that time and can feel the vibration 5 min before incident. i thought maybe only wheel balancing problem. than it happened, damaging my rear mud guard, mud flap,  broken taillight, bumper falling and some dent on rear door. its yokohama a drive and  just reach 3 years old. tread still got 30%. i will never use this type of tyre again.
*
wah, so many things got damage... u crash or bang somethin after the blowout?

It looks like you got a faulty tyre, or one which had taken some serious abuse. Because from the picture it looks like a chunk of that tyre came off, and I don't anything on the road is capable of ripping that much rubber out. So it must've blown out.

Try sending it back to the manufacturer and ask a replacement. Don't bet on it though smile.gif
*
does tyre have any warranty or somethin? if my memory serve me right, i think it's less than 2 yrs..

no wor, i din torture it or do any handbrake turns/etc..
but i do travel long distance quite frequent, from Penang-Melaka-Penang maybe once every two month. guess the tyre cannot stand the long journey gua... hmm.gif

Cannot imagine how to torture just part of the tyre surface .... take sand paper and sand it off ? tongue.gif

later go bck time, will check on the other tyre... can this be cause by manufacture defect?

looking at the thread pattern.. it looks like your car have bad alignment.. the inside wear more than outside (no including the totally botak patch from the screeching...)

ALSO the tire seems too smooth.. looks like hardened tire?

how old is the tire? how long have you been using it? hairline cracks are visible on the whole tires.. from the pic i can say the tires is less than 30% left.
*
juz replace the tyre with michelin PP2 yesterday evening.
The tyre is less than 2 yrs old and I have juz got the allignment and balancing done less than 2 months ago..
funny thing is.. there is only the bold patch near the burst part. I also inspect the other tyre, there is no bold patch/etc..
