QUOTE(lightning69 @ Dec 10 2009, 01:29 PM) still not yet .... today just went in the showroom and testing the A550 .... I was like totally amazed with it's performance especially the speed priority mode.... but I have some question about it ... the speed priority (7FPS) means that totally cannot adjust the aperture on M mode? I did test the shot on speed priority in Manual and the aperture was free to adjust .... very confused >_< Overall it was amazing however I dislike it's new handling .... everything wasn't fit well compared with A350 especial the AEL button and the shutter speed scroll ..... one more thing is the grip is slightly shorter than the A350 making me doesn't felt so comfortable as A350 but again I really maybe ... wanted this for the performance by sacrificing the comfortness XD |

QUOTE(lwliam @ Dec 10 2009, 03:19 PM) it means that you do your adjustment before u press the shutter... then the camera will use that exposure setting to capture all 7 shots... it doesnt really apply to M mode as your settings will be the same anyway, it mainly applies to P, A and S modes.. where normally the exposure will change accordingly TTL while shooting. But if in speed priority, the exposure wont change even if the scene shifts from dark to bright in-between the 7 frames capture >_< is 42AM actually putted wrong XD Added on December 10, 2009, 2:23 pmwingster: your gears, Sony HVL-F40AM???? do you mean 42? and yea .... I did check the sample picture of A550 ... but it seems the noise control were only good in RAW while many people comment the color brightness and noise control on shadow wasn't react so good likewise HDR functionally was quite limited so I need to think twice whether it's worth to upgrade or not .... >_< or perhaps go foward for A700 |

QUOTE(marauderz @ Dec 11 2009, 03:47 PM) hi guys, I'm thinking of gettting a 550 as an upgrade to my 350, one of the main reason I was thinking of getting it was for it's high ISO performance, but as I was reading through the threads, High ISO performance is only good when shooting RAWs? JPG situation still the same as previous? erm you should look from a certain sample .... it was improved from the A350 on jpeg in terms of noise but not a big step by the way >.< |

QUOTE(albnok @ Dec 11 2009, 04:37 PM) If it works for you, screw what DPReview or (predictably) DCM Magazine has to say. Most of us here are enthralled with the noise performance. overall A550 actually played on different role between A700 ... I felt like A550 was a more powerful PnS camera compare to all the competitors although some people who prefer additional Program Shift or Depth of Field Preview. It is a CMOS versus the A350's CCD. Did you try comparing the A550 and A350 side-by-side? The answer would be obvious. I personal was likes the Live View performance more .... >_< This post has been edited by wingster: Dec 11 2009, 03:59 PM |

QUOTE(ieR @ Dec 11 2009, 07:14 PM) (mmm i dunno albnok with agree with me or not, he seem to disagree with me most of the time hmm ... well as A550 shot in raw may not have the right results compare to 500D but after the adjustment it works much greater than the Canon 500D Raw .... right?marauderz: understanding the new sensor. and the hype iso performance of the new sensor. the A550 sensor is pretty well build, ignoring what-so-ever review there is out there, some are bias, some arent. but to the point, the sharpness and iso performance is also affected by lenses u use, (you will notice review hardly state what lenses they use when they do comparison) so, it's very difficult to justify the sharpness or iso or performance of the camera. as for the first question on the iso, high iso works well with raw? answer is NOPE - not exactely. u see, especially the DP review, u notice the 500D raw - iso at 3200 are noisier then A550's raw. it proves that, the 500D has better (or heavier) noise reduction in the body when comparing jpeg, 500D seems finer then A550. but the good news is, A500 native (raw) sensor iso level are pretty LOW at iso3200 too (and to any other camera in the market now, except nikon, they going to use our sensor anyway later....) so, for 500D users, it's better for them to shoot jpeg rather then raw and the trouble to post process later. and passing iso6400, 500D did pretty bad in their raw then A550. this proves A550 sensor are on par or better with (perhaps) canon's sensor.... so... for now, all sony's need is a good team of programmer to recode better coding for noise reduction. so, shooting raw, infact , gives u space to process the noise, but the trouble to do it, (IMHO) is too troublesome. i rather just shoot jpeg, and learn to love the noise that affect the photo. but then, i know one thing, when u buy the A550, buy it with the CZ1680!.... ur photo will goes into another level of clarity. A300, warranty till june next year, with 1870 kit lens, +8gb card. 8/10 condition. how much can let go? PM me ur opinion, i dunwan to turn this thread to talk bout price war. |

and yet i did asked ... if u want to paired with 18 55mm SAM ... you need to top up at least RM500~600 T.T
However I did test the performance, A550 with 18 55 SAM is damn fast ..... >.< and yet accurate too |
