QUOTE(ieR @ Dec 24 2009, 01:19 PM) i tot AF speed is dependent on the motor in the body? meaning all lens(non motor) are about more or less the same speed? the diff only when u have SAM or SSM or 'HSM' or any Motorised lens? lenses have different gearings. like the sal16-105 has short gearings. even with longer range, it's faster at focusing compare to shorter 18-70mm kit lens. slightly faster than 16-80mm zeiss. sony 18-250 is faster focusing compare to its tamron 18-250 sibling This post has been edited by soulfly: Dec 24 2009, 01:59 PM

AF speed depends on a number of factors.. lens architecture, sensor, af-assist, etc.. betul tak albert?

QUOTE(albnok @ Dec 24 2009, 11:48 AM) The A500 is in Malaysia already, first sighted at PC Fair 2009; you can definitely find it in Lowyat Plaza on the UG floor (not Tarita, but one of the shops near it, facing the kopitiam.) does the price have big distance with a550?

Yes Added on December 24, 2009, 11:42 amsony malaysia did not bring in the A500 coz it is too closely priced to the entry level cams e.g. A230, A330.. but someone said earlier that the A500 may be coming in soon.. maybe albnok can clarify i vote for b. Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 using it so far no problems

QUOTE(e-jump @ Dec 24 2009, 12:21 PM) hi thar So I was at comic fiesta, and i feel my Tamron 17-50 F2.8 on a300 - not that fast under low light - the bokeh isolation of cosplayers to the busy background not ummph enough So im thinking primes (never had one) either one below (under 2K) -Sigma 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM = RM17XX (Local Warranty) -Sigma 24mm F1.8 EX DG =RM14XX (Local Warranty) -28mm F1.8 EX DG Asp =RM11XX (Local Warranty) - you suggest *im stinking something that not exceeds 50mm in actual film equivalentwhich one do you think best bang for the bucks? im open to suggestions as well go for sigma 20mm f/1.8 QUOTE(albnok @ Dec 24 2009, 01:14 PM) If you're thinking of full-body shots at close range, under 1 meter, the 20mm F1.8 would be your best bet. It's the closest you can get to 17mm anyway! yeah...i second that

It's the closest you can get to 17mm anyway! correct me if im wrong...for portrait..i notice that using long range the result is better than using close range most of the time(assuming the size of the model in the picture is the same)..the face usually looked more 3D from long range..and it looked flat when we shoot with wide lenses..

ieR: SAM/SSM may or may not be faster than a screw-drive lens. For example it is widely known that the Nikkor AF-D 50mm F1.4 focuses faster than the Nikkor AF-S 50mm F1.4G SWM.
Focusing accuracy also depends - the Tamron 70-200mm F2.8 is bad and slow on the Canon/Nikon but good and fast on the Sony/Pentax.
kevinwcw: I keep forgetting to ask! Argh. There are talks about the A550 with 18-55mm kit lens coming in soon. If you don't need a camera now, you might save money by waiting!
lehtung: The butterfly showdown is awesome! I hope you got one from the side as well!
achew: Not really. It all depends on the angle of the face.
Kul | Mo0: It's just how I like it, with a wee bit of vividness.

SSM for bigger lens with bigger screw to turn bigger elements where it might indirectly cause a long term damage to the internal motor if no SSM for Huge Lens? but IF an SSM/SAM is damage, does the internal able to turn it? or the internal's motor is bypassed (no connection into the lens itself?)? i cant imagine the money involve to repair a SSM
