I think big companies can't even acknowledge the existence of formats like MKV... esp Sony since they themselves own a movie studio

your reply is irrelevant. WDTV had no lan either, until WDTV Live. None of the low end RMVB players have internet connection, yet they play downloaded RMVBs fine.

back to the Sony - since they mention Divx, AVI format should be ok.

But there is no mention of support for RMVB and MKV. If you download movies/TV series in either of these formats then you're out of luck.
