Can I unlock achivement points and collect them, if I decided not to register my 360 with XBOX Live?

yes, a local profile without xbox live can still unlock achievements and collect them all

by local , i meant OFFLINE profile

my other offline profiles have few thousand gamer points, these are used by second players or friends who drop by and dont want to mess up my save games

and ONLINE profile is just to be viewed and compared with others

^ no. since u registered your account offline, u can't bring them online. once u go online it'll ask u to register a new account with a nice ZERO achievement.

Follow up question then - when I register my XBOX online, can I choose NOT to activate the 1 month gold trial? I want to activate it later, now not familiar with XBOX games, go online sure kena hantam.

unfortunately, you cannot choose to activate the 1-month gold trial at a later time. it gets activated as soon as you register your account to XBL so the only option is to register your account when u want it activated.

and contrary to what SHOfrE3zE said, I do believe that any achievement and gamer points that you've earned on your online account will be carried forward once you register it online. I could be wrong though.

After i did some reading, it seems that as long as your offline profile name is available online, you can simply upgrade to Live and carry your achivement points.

But i read about many problem related to it.

as what i said, if u registered your account offline (meaning that u never register or go on LIVE yet) your account will always be an offline account where the database is not saved on the LIVE database and they can't keep track of your account. once u go online for the 1st time, you will be asked to register for a LIVE account and u need to register AGAIN for the new LIVE account. once u registered your previous achievement that u achieved OFFLINE shall not be registered in your new account. but once u registered online, all your achievement u get with the new account whether u're playing offline or online would always kept track.
and yes, u can't choose your free trial to be activated later.
i know as i been in this scene for quite long already.
