So, basically its the same petition as the first one, just that its now a petition and not some thinly veiled boycott?
Also, why are you guys still asking for Punkbuster? There's VAC now (Which is even designed to regulate dedicated servers) and its something they've paid Valve for already... No need to add another on top.

QUOTE(SpikeTwo @ Nov 16 2009, 09:51 AM) i understand the concern, jwevrsn. other than the punkbuster, i am all good. but why don't we, the pc gaming community, just let the half assed port die, and wait for a proper PC game. This petition is for the ppl who have already bought the game... Which means that using a Steam group appears to be a better solution since they can literally tell who owns the game and who doesn't.

QUOTE(jwevrsn @ Nov 18 2009, 11:48 AM) b) Reason for Punkbuster (while I understand the frustration of people with PB) with good a/c streaming, pb configured right it instantly stops hackers getting in. Real CD Keys required and GUIDs based on them: - MW2 has been illegally shared and a MP crack designed, you no longer need a CDKey on steam to play this game just add it as a non-steam game; - VAC bans you for hack? Just make a new steam account;- Nonpaying users can now play on IWNet alongside paying customers for free. That's more of an anti cheat fail than COD4 ever had. Do you even own the game? Are you aware of how Steam works (Add it as a non-Steam game? Eh?)? Steam CD-keys are forever tied to a Steam account. So, if your Steam account is hacked, your MW2 CD-key is GONE FOR GOOD. Also, the failure of IWNet to prevent illegal users from using their matchmaking service is a failure on IWNet. VAC still works as it is and is a global fix (PB doesn't actually permban CD-keys on a global level)

QUOTE(Falk @ Nov 18 2009, 03:28 PM) He's actually right about the illegal MP version and how it works. Of course, IW isn't going to allow that to work for long (i.e. bumping up the authentication on IW.net) Fair enough, but that's really a failing on IW's part. Switching to PB won't exactly fix this issue. Makes more sense to get VAC to work as its supposed to instead.

QUOTE(Falk @ Nov 18 2009, 03:34 PM) Yeah, unfortunately at this point it's waaa-aaay too late to take out half the framework that's already been developed but another of the main gripes I have with MW2 is that Steam really, really is unwelcome bloatware. Not being able to log into Steam (occasionally) when I want to play Steam game X is annoying as hell. Well if you're relatively new to Steam, this may be an issue. But for those who've been using Steam for years, this is but a minor complaint. But that's really a discussion for somewhere else as that is fundamentally an issue with Steam and not this game per-se.

QUOTE(Zephro @ Nov 18 2009, 04:00 PM) VAC does work as it's supposed to. It doesn't ban instantly, its delayed in waves, kind of like the xbox yearly banning. Only more frequently, I hope. This means hackers will have a fun few weeks or months before then ban hits. One thing though, if you get VACced you can't play on VAC-secured servers. But MW2 doesn't have servers to begin with (lol). Are they just going to block you from accessing the MP feature altogether? Yeah, IINM that's how VAC works (For client side that is, that's why everyone has a VAC rating) But now the issue is (From what falk and the TS has mentioned) is that pirated versions can get play on IWNet? Which means someone screwed up the authentication (Kinda like with Borderlands) This post has been edited by H@H@: Nov 18 2009, 04:02 PM
