Poll for this topic: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1210561

Okay now guys, the TT is a week away: time to decide where we should gather and - in the event that that place is swamped full of people, a backup venue.

Possible Venues checked on the 13/11, ranked by suitability IMHO (oh, and for clarity, BTS = Berjaya Time Square and LYP = Low Yat Plaza):

1) Crispe Kreme BTS (Berjaya Times Square) - Should be enough space for the meet upstairs, IF the place is not swamped with people come next Saturday. More then enough electrical outlets. Noise level low - though they have ambient music. IF we DON'T enter all at once and make too much noise (haha, audiophiles making noise), there shouldn't be much problem with the management - as long as we all order stuff.

2) Priceless Penang (or something) Cafe on the far corner of the Sony BTS side - Enough seats and lotsa space, didn't see any plugs though. Didn't seem THAT busy. Average noise levels due to it's out-of-the-way-ness. Again as per above in terms of management issues.

3) LYP Food Court - Average-High noise levels (crowd noise mostly) but didn't seem crowded on Fri. No plugs seen. Lotsa seats and space.

4) Mr Teppenyaki LYP (Low Yat Plaza) - It's a restaurant, so not really a place to lepak. But it's deserted most of the time.

5) BTS Food Court - Last resort. Noisy due to roller-coaster, and should be packed on Sat.

Checked out Coffee Bean LYP, it's TINY, so it's out.

If you have any more ideas, please state in the thread and WHY you think it's a suitable choice.

Thanks!

What's a "proper setup" ?

I can go on with the "one man's poison is another man's cure" line of reasoning (in which I still think that the Nokia 5800 sounds great for a phone - though the Fuze + LOD combo edges it out by a little bit for me now), but the last time I tried that it didn't really work out all that well, did it?

Anyhow, like chicaman said, this started out being a simple "Teh Tarik" session between audiophiles. Then, as the number of people interested grew, there was suggestions given to hold this "Teh Tarik" session in someone's or another's house. But, for the lack of anyone who wanted offer their houses for use (for 30 pax summore), this idea was scratched off.

In the end, it must be said that this started PRIMARILY as a teh tarik, knowledge transfer and chit-chat session between newbie audiophiles with MOBILE rigs and some more experienced members that MAY (or may not) involve some "casual" auditioning.

That was before it grew to the current goliath that it as become right now - but I'd expect that the primary AIM of the TT to be the same: a teh tarik, knowledge transfer and chit-chat session between people who value their audio playback equipment - with some casual auditioning thrown in.

It must be said, even in the very beginning, there were really no mention of it being a TRUE and PROPER audiophile auditioning meet-up of any sort - as it has been discussed pretty early in the planning stages of the TT/Meet that a true, "proper", audiophile meeting would have to be held in a "proper" place under "proper" conditions; and that's just something that cannot be arranged for at the moment - at least not for me.

Unless, that is, if anybody can point us to a much better place to hold this TT at. With better sponsorship. I'd gladly appreciate it.

But, if the topic title for the gathering has been misinforming people (into thinking that it is something more "proper" then a simple TT session), I have edited the main topic title for clarity.

Maybe, if we're lucky, a more "proper", non "Teh Tarik" version of this sort of gathering COULD be held in the future - and planning for something like this will start at the very end of this one.
