What is Full HD? I was told that all 42" LCD is capable of Full HD. I was also told that there is HD 720 and HD 1080. All seems to be jargon to me. Bottom line is I want to get a 42" LCD TV. Currently, I've got Samsung, Toshiba and Panasonic.

By the way, how to use Full HD? Does it mean all TV medium streamed into the TV is Full HD? Please educate me. Thanks.

full hd is resolution running 1920×1080 resolution

42" is capable of Full HD depending on models,u have to check....

hd720 is HD not full hd,running at 1280×720 resolution

full hd can be run from blu-ray player(eg ps3) or hd-dvd player

all tv medium is running SD(standard definition) including astro...

Arigato. 1 more question. What's the difference between LED, LCD, Plasma TV?

I know LCD cannot watch fast moving movies cuz doesn't refresh fash enough. Plasma very hot.

LED? Only LED I know is those used in electronics devices tongue.gif. But it's the latest so i presume it must be out of my budget.

LED tv is LCD tv with backpanels light up by LED instead of conventional type.so LED tv is slimmer and able to achieve 'true black color and true white color'

plasma consume alittle more electricity, hence dissipate more heat....

Thank you. I've never had Blue-ray or watched any high def movies before (yet). Not buying any player that is capable of playing such media ... so i'll just stick to the plain simple 42" LCD. Any recommendation?

I'm looking at Samsung Series 3 or 4 as possible choice.

Watching Astro on LED LCD still no..no. Quality is the same as normal LCD. Plasma will be the better choice.

Saw a panasonic plasma tv (P/n: TH-42C10K). Carrefour is selling for RM 2599. Outside price you can probably get RM 2500 or RM 2400!!!

Do you think it's a good buy?

Apart from posting here, do take some time to search the Net on this issue. There are many resources out there which will explain all this clearly to you and in more detail than what is posted here.

Already did. Too many jargon. Finding what is full hd will also have to look at 720p, 1080p, DIVX, HDMI, SVideo, etc. Too many jargons to process and look. So ask here lorrr since so many expert. Go to shop and ask they will recommend "da best" price wise also "da best" larrr ...

My criteria are as follows:
1. Watch 80% astro channels mainly news, discovery and probably movies. Sports occassionally
2. No play any video or tv games (xbox, playstation)
3. No vhs (video tape) and probably play dvd / vcd occassionally. (like maybe once in 6 months or so)
4. Would like to connect to laptop or those media hard disk so can stream movies to tv.
5. want to be able to view at most angle
6. View mostly at night with minimal dimm warm lighthing.
7. viewing hours: Approx 150 hours / month

Objective:
1. Get a LCD / Plasma tv with pure black
2. Budget within RM 2500
3. 2 years warranty (min)
4. Screen size: 40" to 42" (max)
5. TV doesnt necessary needs to come with good speakers or boom box as living hall small and no point waking up the neighbours when watching porn tongue.gif.

... as suggested, you won't know when you going have full hd source... blue-ray, HD media player...etc.
also consider your viewing distance...42" best view in not more then 12feet.

as watching 80% astro... plasma is best for you. However who's know in future astro will go hd... like hong kong and singapore.
please go for full hd if possible...
many a few hundred over your budget... but you get the decent tv which can last you longer time and make you and your family more happy...smile.gif
