QUOTE(madmoz @ Oct 12 2010, 01:12 PM)
There's something that's been bugging me a bit of late... well not as in really bugging - more like somethings got me thinking...

The SD thread is rather quiet nowadays. I remember there was a time when it was rather active, with people like Zoidx, Kukubeh, 8tvt etc posting their work. These days (no offense to anyone, k?) mostly snap fitters jer. Everyone is entitled to their own preference i know, but SDs look utterly crap unpainted. Plus, it does nothing for the modelling community - people outgrow toys (well most people sweat.gif) but modelling is a different story.

Instead of ranting and complaining though, I wanna try doing something about it. A GROUPBUILD. I will also sponsor a prize - Koto's D-Style AV-98 Ingram. I do not own a shop pr anything so I am not looking for publicity - I just wanna see more models!  brows.gif  Anyone else wanna chip in, feel free.

It won't work if no one's interested. I would need your help. Am thinking of limiting it to first timers (i.e people who have never painted before - which means the 'old timers' can join, but cannot contest whistling.gif) and kits must be painted - be it with markers, hand painted or AB-ed. We'll get someone experienced (Vince or some zero-g fella mebbe). Not sure if we should limit it to SD - the main gundam thread also got many snap fitters. Let's time it to coincide with Litt Tak's Gundam World Cup as to get a sense of 'kan cheong'-ness nod.gif

Our Zaku GB at lenny's a few years ago worked great, let's replicate that!

Any takers?

aww.. didn't know my lack of photos are disturbing you madmoz.. i'm in! in fact, am working on the GP02 sanguo now.. biggrin.gif lets go! rclxms.gif rclxm9.gif as for someone experienced, i suggest Rayloke! biggrin.gif rclxms.gif

and as for pictures, here is some of my work.. shiba-i sazabi done a few months back.. nothing fancy, just some seamline covering, and 100% handpainted

well, i for one would not mind helping out with organization as well.. i share your sentiments on how people now just buy, and snap fit at most.. maybe one of the guidelines could be to at least have the kit painted, or seamlines covered?

agree with striderozy about prizes as well. good way of clearing the stash. i can prob offer one or two sd kits. likewise, please don't expect too much.. prob a Sanguo kit or keropla...

with regards to timeline, i would think something like 2 or 3 months? a single SD is not too time consuming, if all you do is just normal handpainting, so i reckon 3 months is plenty even if you are a real slow worker.. what say you guys?

since its a SD GB, should not take too long to complete. i think 3 months would be just nice, if not too long for a SD kit to be painted and lined. what say you guys?

For now:
1. madmoz
2. kukubeh
3. striderozy
4. blacksc
5. honeydewboy
6.shauno

btw, do you think we should categorize who is newbie and who isn't? self evaluation is the best i think.. only newbies would be eligible for the prizes..

@madmoz so the timeline's set at 2 months?

@blackcsc don't worry man.. basic marker work on an SD kit takes far less time than you would imagine. so even if you're super lazy or slow, 3 or 4 sessions would be more than sufficient (unless you're like me.. do 1 part then distracted >.<) you'll be surprised at how little additional effort it takes. just join, have fun, and pick up a few pointers along the way! biggrin.gif rclxms.gif

well, i think it would be physically hard for the GB members to meet up to showoff their kits anyways, since we're located all around the country. maybe just a photo to show proof? for those who cannot make it, that is..

well, i guess you judge for yourself. if you're like myself, bro Jayster or Honeydewboy, and sifu sifu like madmoz, 8tvt, kukubeh then you are not newbie loh..

to my understanding, new in the hobby and people who just snap fit their kits without painting or marker-ing will be people we are looking for..

otherwise, we could do a small one first, then slowly start to gain momentum when the lurkers see how little effort+syok it is tongue.gif

i think many of us need to clear the stash anyway right? wink.gif

oooo yea.. seamline busting is a biiiig thing flex.gif flex.gif whistling.gif

yeah, i agree with the photo thing. for those who can meet up would be great. but not essential. of course it would be better if you could join in the gathering, but if not, don't beat yourself about it. some basic rules as complied so far

1. SD kits only. regardless if they're Sanguo, or old G Generation, anything goes.
2. all kits MUST be painted. hand paint, airbrush, or just marker. no paint = not qualified
3. time frame is 2 months. i propose starting on the 1st of November, and final date is 31 Dec. then we can have gathering circa that time.
4. the GB is divided into 2 parts. competition and just joining. only newbies can join the compy. how 'new' you are is self assessment (no, madmoz, kukubeh, 8tvt.. you are NOT newbies...)

anything else to add which i forgot?

Shauno u left out the judging on the winner part.. how r v gonna judge who is the winner ?? If post photo then gonna post it here n vote for it ?? the real "competition" is stil on ??

ah~ left that out cos i think so far we have not come up with a consensus on how to judge on a winner. any suggestions or input from the floor?

well, SD means super deformed, so any deformities would count i reckon.. let's keep it as a mecha SD yea, so patlabors, or egg planes count. needless to say, gundams are a big yes.

No to human SD's tho.. so yes, madmoz, no loli-s this time ok?
