check what is the ibootrom version first. look at my earlier post.

if it is new, then you have to be very very careful with jailbreak.

he meant that if you r in new bootroom and you have upgraded to 3.1.3...then you can't restore back to 3.1.2 and even jailbreak the phone...moreover if it is locked set..the your iPhone will be use as iPod touch...

also the fact that if the 3GS is with new ibootrom, you can only perform a tethered jailbreak with blackra1n. the really really careful portion about this is that once you have jailbroken your 3GS, you CANNOT manually reboot! you have to trigger reboot using blackra1n. if you did a reboot manually, then you are doomed. you phone will always be stuck at the recovery mode state after reboot. you cannot restore to a firmware other than the latest one (not even a custom 3.1.3 firmware with baseband 5.11.07).

i have this problem now with my friend's 3GS that i was trying to jailbreak with blackra1n. everything went well including installation of cydia and apps. but the mistake i did was to manually reboot the phone. then i'm stuck now with the recovery mode. i tried lots of ways to try and restore it to 3.1.2 (custom firmwares) but to no avail sad.gif

i can't even reboot the phone now with blackra1n. it will go to DFU mode once triggering reboot by blackra1n.

so i basically stuck and still thinking whether to wait or to just proceed with the latest restore to 3.1.3 (which means that there will be no jailbreak options available at the moment). sucks! have a lot of explaining to my friend to do...

please don't end up like me.

before you try, please verify what bootrom version you are on. use the link that i have provided. it also has instructions for Mac.

if you are on the new boot rom, then chances are it will not be successful.... but you can give it a go and see how..

your model is 3GS right?

this is what i got from System profiler in DFU mode

sorry, i did a typo on my earlier post for the ibootrom version.

the new version should be IBOOT-359.3.2

seems like your bootrom version is for a 3G phone and not a 3GS. if it is a 3G, then you should be safe (can anyone confirm???).

i actually manually rebooted my phone a few times and i can reboot my phone using blackra1n. mine is the 3GS with new bootrom. so i don't think there's any problem with manually rebooting.

you might wanna try turning off antivirus/firewall. my friend had same problem as you did and he tried this and manage to reboot his phone with blackra1n.

i'm currently running baseband 05.11.07 on my jailbroken 3gs using blackra1n.

i've read that for baseband 05.11.07, it is possible to jailbreak OS 3.1.3 using blackrain.

if i upgrade my firmware to 3.1.3, and jailbreak, will i still have all my apps and settings?

u can update ur firmware by custom firmware.. remember never go update through itunes to 3.1.3 for now.. because still haven got any JB tool yet.
if u not rely needed just forget update to 3.1.3 because nothing much different at the end..
