yes you can straight away buy the newest expansion to get into the current expansion, though I'd advise you to wait for Legion because currently it's the end of WOD expansion, a lot of players/guilds already stopped playing to wait for Legion to come.

Once Legion is launched, WOD should automatically become part of the 'base game' and you will only need to buy the newest expansion to upgrade your account to Legion.
