Hi,
I'm new to the game but have not got much time to explore. I am playing a Night Elf Hunter and would like to ask:

What's the difference between Spellbook and Abilities versus Talents?

What are the difference between Hunter Spells and Hunter Talents? Can anyone recommend me a good build for Hunter or some forum / board / website which can guide me?
*
Spellbook is where all talents and abilities are found. You can refer to your spellbook to drag and drop the talents/abilities to your hotbar.

Abilities - general skill that all hunters / whichever class will have
Talents - skills that you gain if you invest points in the talent within the talent tree. Press "N" to see your talent tree.

As for hunter builds, there are 2 general ones I'd use on my hunter alt; beast mastery and marksman. If you're still leveling, grinding or farming for money, best is beast mastery. If you're raiding, probably marksman or hybrid marksman/beast mastery. Ask our resident hunters and they'll help ya out. Welcome to Azeroth where no one sleeps biggrin.gif

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Abilities - does this mean we can max this out by learning from those Hunter NPC in the towns?
Talents - we cannot have have all talents, so we only choose whichever possible, is that correct?

Do we need to open certain abilities to have access to certain talents or they are not related?
*
1) Learning abilities doesn't unveal talents
2) You can learn abilities at class trainers and raise the ability level
3) New abilities and levels are gained every 2 even numbers; level 2 onwards.
4) Learning talents will make it an ability, which can be leveled up at your class trainer, similar to abilities
5) Unlearning a talent will remove the learned ability levels; if you picked a talent and trained it to level 3, and decided to unlearn the talent, you lose the talent and reset it to level 1

You can only have so many talents. You are given talent points from level 10 till 70. That is 61 talent points to spread out among 3 talent trees. You can either spend all in 1 tree, or you can distribute the points around to form a hybrid talent spec. You can unlearn your talents and redeem all talent points at your class master. However, everytime you unlearn your talents, it will cost and increase with each time. Don't remember the cost though smile.gif

thanks, i think i have resolved the problem now. lvl 21 and progressing slowly. i wanted to get aspect of the hawk back then. i thought i could just buy it from the class trainer.

Aspect of the hawk doesn't require talent spec. Some abilities are gained at certain levels only.

Thank you all for replying to me so quickly. I just want to make some clarification.

Spellbook and Abilities can be learnt from the Class Trainer found is most towns. It can also be resetted for a cost but it gets more expensive each time. My question is, can we learn ALL the Spellbook and Abilities for the class? It only cost money, right? Most of the Spellbook and Abilities has some level requirement before we can learn them, that's why we usually choose the Filtered list when talking to the Class Trainer.

Talent is something we learn ourselves with points. We are given 61 points max and distributed accordingly among three-builds (eg: marksmanship, beast master, survival) each class or we can concentrate one just one-build (eg: marksmanship). Talent is used to improve Spellbook and Abilities, be it extra damage or lower cooldown time, etc. Most of the Talents are determine by how many talent points you have used for that particular build, right?

Is my understanding above, correct?

Last question: Can the talents on the "N"-window be resetted? For example, now I play marksmanship and later decide to go with beast mastery, so I want to reset. Is that possible?
*
Regarding talents, yes that is all correct. And as mentioned, yes talents can be reset. That's when you go to your class trainer to reset your talents. Resetting talent points cost money, you won't lose what abilities are learned, but you will lose all talent points and all levels for that talent point. E.g. in marksmanship, there is the talent Aimed Shot. You can put a talent point in it to become level 1 Aimed Shot, then at higher levels raise it to level 2, 3 and so forth. but when you unlearn your talents at the class master, you lose Aimed shot and you lose the levels for it as well. So next time you learn it again, you have to pay to raise it to level 2, 3 etc.

Do note, not all cities have class trainers. It depends on the race. E.g. paladins are open only to humans, dwarves and draeneis so you will only find paladin class trainers in Stormwind, Ironforge and Exodar (disregard the one paly trainer in Theramore). Hunters are only open to night elves, dwarves and draenei (iirc) so find hunter trainers at their respective cities.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with me. I really appreciate it guys.

Just 3 more questions:
1. I see a lot of Beast Mastery Hunter or Survival Hunter builds. Other times Beast Master primarily with a little Marksmanship. Anyone of you know any good builds for Marksmanship (primary) with Beast Mastery?
2. What is a good profession for Hunters? Please recommend. I take so long just to understand Abilities and Talents.. I have zero idea about Professions.
What's a good race to play as a Rogue? I have always like Rogues / Assassin job class.
*
1. Not qualified to answer as I'm not a raiding hunter. My hunter is my farmer and pot maker laugh.gif
2. If you want quick money, then any gathering profession will do; herbalism, skinning or mining. Enchanting and jewelcrafting is only good if you invest in them to get the high level recipes or lucky enough to get recipes from mobs in instances/raids. If you want to make your own gear, then go for leatherworking. As there is a limit to 2 professions max at a time, you can either take two gathering profession, or for a hunter, take skinning and leatherworking.

Skinning to get the materials to level leatherworking, and leatherworking to craft your own armor at higher levels. Other combinations you may want to consider is herbalism and alchemy, gather herbs then make your own pots.

3. Race for a rogue, depends what you're looking for. All classes are the same, it's the races that brings extra dimensions. E.g. human has perception, so makes it easier for you to find stealthed targets, gnomes have escape artist which makes them immune to trapping effects (iirc), etc. Check up the race's racial ability and you can decide from there.

Questions about pets.

1. I manage to tame Nightstalker Rust (forgot the name) and then brought it to fight some monsters near Auberine. Then it died, how come I cannot revive it?

2. When I click on Feed Pet, do I need to have some kind of pet food in my inventory? If yes, where can I find / buy them?
*
Hunter pets have a happiness level, shown by the face icon; green means happy, yellow so-so, red angry. Green = increased damage and loyalty level increases. Yellow = no damage increase, loyalty maintains. Red = lower damage, loyalty decreases and more likely your pet will leave you. So always keep them happy.

1) If your pet didn't abandon you, you can revive your pet. Look in your spellbook under General tab iirc. If they die, they lose happiness. So be prepared to feed them immediately upon revival.

2) Depending on your pet type, you can find food everywhere. Feline pets; tigers, lion, panthers all go for meat and fish. Beasts go for meat, turtles eat fish, etc. If you can buy the food from an NPC, then good. Always stock up on pet food. Also, you can use Beast Lore on the animals to find out what kind of food they eat.

Generally, what I do is just read tips from wowinsider.com and a few WoW blogs for new links, etc.

WoW is a game that a player has to spend a lot of time to read, read, read, read and more reading.

It's also a place where a lot of discussion takes place. So, things will get very feisty indeed. Taunts and insults are traded a lot as well. smile.gif Not always accepted of course but not easy to control either.
*
I read an article in a mag before about WoW and how the majority of the players are obsessed by the numbers; gold, dps, reputations. I couldn't agree more with that. And after getting a new PC and turning the visual effects up, it was like a new world. So much eye-candy. And WoW is a big world to immerse yourself in if you choose to enjoy the game for what it offers you at face value. But once you start trading all of the eye-candy for the numbers, you lose the enjoyment and start chasing numbers. Then it becomes an obsession.

My opinion anyway. I still like taking the time going to Wetlands to see the big glowing moon cos you'll never see that in KL biggrin.gif

guys, i need some help... i m new and currently trying the 10 days trial!

kinda confused! i gotten the WoW normal 10 days trial.. then only i noticed got 10 days trial TBC as well..

Regardless to the that, i just wanted to know if i want to start playing WoW wat do i need?? TBC runs on itself and Normal WoW by itself?
As i downloaded the client and patched it the normal WoW already.

So the cheapest and fastest way to start? buying BattleChest?
*
World of Warcraft - stand-alone game, doesn't require TBC but your gameplay is limited in terms of level (capped at 60 only), race availability and gear.

TBC - expansion, requires WoW to play, provides increased level cap (to 70), race, area and gear.

Summary: get WoW first, then get TBC. Hope this helps ya and welcome to the game biggrin.gif

Credit card is just for registering your account. You register with a credit card, then change your payment method using timecards.

noob question here, i just bought the CD key yesterday and when register they ask the payment method, I just cancel it. I didnt register anything whether Pay pal, credit card or prepaid.

I can still play WOW. But will there be a problem when I want to pay the monthly fees. I plan to used prepaid.

Pls share your thought.

Once your subscription time is up, you will need to reactivate your subscription. Prepaid card is good in that it is a fixed 60 day play time; at the end of 60 days, your account is temporarily suspended until you reload your account again.

Credit card is cheaper but is recurring unless you plan to cancel your subscription.

In your case, you will need to select a subscription method later anyway.
