I installed both apps on my iPhone 5 (IOS6) and my wife's iPhone 4S (IOS5).
Garmin map is way too outdated, and is using MSM map. However, you can change the map to latest MFM map using iFunbox but without Junction View.
You can only change the map on IOS5. If you are on IOS6, you can't change the file using iFunbox, so I can't change the map on my iPhone 5. Also, the apps is not optimized for iPhone 5, you will see black bar on top and bottom screen.
For Papago, the latest M10 version has the updated MFM map version Nov 2012 with full Junction View. It's faster than the previous M8. Also, it's optimized for iPhone 5.
Overall, I would recommend papago if you are using iPhone 5 and IOS6.
Garmin is good if the map is updated. I actually prefer Garmin in term of user interface.
Just my two cents.
i just read the review in the app store and 90% user all complain about lost GPS signal. Garmin map is way too outdated, and is using MSM map. However, you can change the map to latest MFM map using iFunbox but without Junction View.
