Im using Pro version.

And to add on it, the tracking seems not very accurate, less accurate than Garmin on my N79...
*
Blame it on Garmin for not releasing an iPhone version. What matter me most is the map database. Tracking is not an issue. I still use my good ol' omnia with GMXT for that

Well there is not much difference from garmin..Papago..and sygic...but gamin is more accuratevfir Malaysia maps but unfortunately there no app for iPhone..accurate here means that they have more poi compare to others..other than both ppg and sygic is very good..since I'm using both of it..
*
Whoa..sorry but I believe that is way misleading. Their difference is huge, UI, features, tracking capability, routing calculation method and so much more.

In fact the map database that will be the same since if you're using MfM for Garmin, highly likely it will have all the POIs like the one for PPG. Except that MFM still finalising their latest PPG map since the last hiatus.

Just updated my PPG M7 and i noticed the map part is now called map switch, i think in the next update, there might be more than one map used for the M7, hence the option to choose maps  hmm.gif
*
Not having the privilege of PC at the moment, hence have yet to update. May I know how much they are charging for the TTS?

Might be getting it if $0.99.

However, two issues might come up.

1. It's an English TTS, so local road name might sound funny or not recognizable.

2. What kind of TTS will it be? Pronouncing the name only or with both name and distance? I prefer the latter as it will be less confusing esp it's an English one

I would prefer Garmin to Papago, havent tried TomTom though..

I suggest u get the Lite version coz its cheaper (I bought Pro version, and are relatively regretting now cry.gif )

For Iphone 4 its using GPS (3GS using A-GPS) its free no 3G/data required.

No registration or map downloading needed, though if they decided to upload new map then entire app need to be downloaded again..

Just like Papago just release update today, and its 400mb size (compared b4 was 200mb)
*
The 3GS also using GPS+AGPS combo.

an advise for papago user.. do charge it the moment u start using.. especially when its in the afternoon hot sun.. phone tends to get very hot, and the charge wont pickup fast enuff than consuming. i have experince it so the moment i see it still doesnt charge up, i off the 3D navi sequence.

btw im using belkin micro adapter and 3GS. a trip to cameron and it serve me well.. try to put somewhere not directly under the windscreen/sunlight.. bcoz its super hot..
*
I'm using cgynett and somehow the rate of charging/consuming almost equal. The battery percentage does not change at all when using GPS. This is with 3GS though. I have yet to try with iP4

If u ask me, I rather their next update be a revamp of their entire interface. Atm it looks vry cheap and ugly.. And for them to fix those lag issues and accuracy as well! Hate it when at times it shows me jumping from the road to a field nxt to me, or on the other side of the road...
*
It's one of the earliest bug that I have reviewed in the AppStore as well. Lagginess that does not suit the capacitive screen.

In terms of the position lock, this is my theory. If one is to compare with GarminXT, they have what they call as "Show Location" function, can be found in the Map setting. There are two options, 1. On roads 2. At GPS location.

Those that pick "on roads", obviously will always see their car on the road, no matter how fluctuates the GPS signal is. If they choose the other one, it will show the most accurate GPS position at the moment and hence will show you out of the road position.

My point is, GPS signal is fluctuating depending on your location. Garmin has solved this issue by giving you the function stated so it will looks better on the map eventhough actually the GPS locked you adjacent to the road.

P/S: those claiming slow GPS lock, could you please inform us whether your AGPS aka Location Services is on or not?

Indeed, Malfreemaps and the custom POIs are what makes Garmin that good. I read that the Garmin app could be free, which is a bit odd.
*
Free? Highly unlikely. I don't think garmin is that generous. I'm predicting the price to be around USD50++ just like others. Do remember though, Garmin does not collaborate with Mfm, their official map provider in Malaysia is MSM. it might be a good thing as it should lower the price.

The main advantages of waze in comparison to trapster are:

1. Custom Map - which in turn a disadvantage depending your location. But there's road tracker function to update your area.

2. Traffic jam update! Why why trapster doesn't have this simple notification!

Other than that, it's basically work the way trapster works. I just hope that the map one day will comes preinstalled.

I'm a GMXT, Papago X5 and MapKing user as well. While I know opinion is entitled to theirs, I don't think that PPG M7 is that bad. Feature wise, very acceptable. Map wise, nothings beat M7 on iPhone for Malaysia map.

You keeps on bashing PPG while not giving us idea of the state of your problem. What kind of iPhone you're using? What FW? JB or not? What version of PPG? Genuine PPG or not?

Because I've been using PPG since its released WITHOUT any crash at all. If you're going to blame on full capacity of iPhone. My 32Gb has reached its capacity and running M7 without any problem.

I never believe using a phone as an GPS alternative... Get a get proper GPS unit of any brands to conserve the battery for phone functions and services.

GPS is so affordable nowadays and it is no longer a luxury to have an unit stuck to the windshield.
*
We have spent +- RM2600 to get an iPhone. Buying a dedicated GPS nav shouldn't be of problem. But if you ask me, I'll say it's redundant. Whatever manufacturers are throwing into current GPS set like MP3/4 player etc, it will never topple the smartphone's function. A GPS phone is multitask which a GPS set will never do. I don't want to buy a set that cost RM500 so it can sit idle in my car when I'm not using it. Plus, if I'm not in the vicinity of my car but in dire need of knowing a place, I just slip it out from my pocket whistling.gif

I believe those that got their PPG or even other nav app through illegal channel doesn't have to ask your question here. You already know you're getting bad apple, so why bother asking it doesn't taste as good as ours?

On a side note, where is the TS? I wish the TS can update the front page with steps and tricks when having the first cold start of any nav apps. otherwise newbies will keeps on spamming with the same question over..and over again

Well if you must know.. I'm using iPhone 4, iOS 4.1, GENUINE PPG, not JB.

Still I think PPG is not very smooth compare to TomTom.. I just purchased TomTom. And very satisfied with stability and smoothness, and how well TomTom manage incoming call during navigation.
*
If that's the case, you're probably the unlucky one. I have no experience of PPG crashing before and nor do most of forumers here. Try reinstalling.

I do have qualm on the lagginess of UI and routing of PPG. The only reason I'm into PPG is simply because of the maps. If I buy a nav app that can't find a specific location, no matter how smooth or gorgeous the UI is, it bears no point at all.

hi bro any recomendation for car charger to use for iphone 4?
*
I'm using Cygnett. Works fine so far. Charges to the fullest even during GPS navigation. However the battery percentage stalled on my former 3Gs during nav. You can also try Belkin. I'd love to try the one that can be taken out as portable charger, but no stock that day.

I'm using Capdase charger, just bought it a couple days ago in Epicentre, Pavilion.
It's only RM38 so i'd prefer branded more than China product xD
*
Emm..ironically, Capdase is of China/Taiwan product if I'm not mistaken. And all of their products is officially banned by myself. Capdase flip casing failed my omnia too many times till it fell and scratched here and there. capdase so-called antiglare for omnia is a big failure as well. I'm focusing on branded one only now.

JB for what? pair with external GPS? don't discuss JB here

Wait for Garmin then. Waze is good only for traffic status while Trapster for police presence.

But both are not good enough as a full fledged nav app

I don't know why people always relate battery draining to a specific app alone while the GPS chipset is obviously the main culprit. Whatever app you use it will suck up the juice

That would be more than $39 then. They have MSM as their map provider in Malaysia. should be having little cost to develop like PPG with Mfm
