I think its a norm to have Dolby HD and DTS master audio now? Looks like a lot of new budget amp also comes with Audyssey now and HDMI switching at least with 2 inputs and 1 output loh.

it does seem underpowered at first - there's no further information on whether the 50W per channels is all channels driven or tested with one channel at a time, or whether its a 1kHz sine wave, or a full range 20hz - 20kHz signal. Most AVR power specs are given tested 1channel at a time running a 1kHz sine wave so the real-time power output during a movie is almost always lower than the stated (read this article)

If they rate it like they rate stereo amps (tested all channels running 20Hz~20kHz), the 50W should be enough for a small room - going by the power required calculator. i.e your seating position should not be more than 6ft from the speakers

Came across this unit 2nd hand, worth looking at?

NAD T754

ps: I am not the seller lah.. but I am using an NAD T763, so far so good. Still think with proper speakers, NAD sounds better for music and movie combined.

It has no latest thingy like HDDts or True HD sound, but the audio output can be link into this amp for proper amplification. For your budget, its not easy to get full technology advantage with good hifi sounds. So compromise has to be made I think. And I still think sound quality comes first.

Saw in the StarMetro today (pg M33) Desa Home Theatre having "Grand-Opening Big Sales" (I thought Desa HT open long time ago already, how come Grand Opening??!!).. Anyway, I'm shopping for a budget component HT system myself, so planning to check it out...

Any advise from the Si-fus out there on what may be a very good deal? However, in the papers everything also VERY SPECIAL PRICE.. dunno can believe or not... Please... please... please... icon_question.gif impart some of your wisdom on me... I'm kinda a sucker for execeptionally good deals, usually end up with something above my initial budget just because it is a very good deal! rclxub.gif

I think when they expanded their shopping and showroom area they did not have special activities to publicise their new look. So now trying to attract people to see their improvements.

Their special price for grand opening was supposed to end last week but till this week also still got Grand Opening Sales. Maybe respond not too good last week so now extended biggrin.gif

I was at lowyat last night and here are the AV that they recommend...

Pioneer VSX-519v fro RM1299 no discount at all.

The other is Sherwwod RQ-6502 for RM999. Bot familiar with theSherwwod, but the salesman say h\its sound better than the denon 130? which is also at RM999.

Got a show unit Yamaha 363 for RM800...is it worth it?

I would reccomend you to stick to VSX-819 as this model is the latest from pioneer line up, launch together with the LX series sometime back. Although the price may be around 1.5k, but you are guarenteed wont become "water" fish as compare to buying old model where the price very much depend..

VSX-519 is also new model. But the HDMI can only accept HD LPCM sound. Cannot accept bitstream and deocde HD Audio.

well seriuslycold is right, u should have asked before you buy.

Buy since you already got it, just enjoy it.

These what I think is:

Pro:
1. You got 7.1 out.
2. HDMI 1.3 passthru...
3. 7.1 channel input.

Cons
1. This unit dont decode HD audio such as DTS Master Audio or Dolby ThrueHD.

The quality of the sound is subjective, maybe u like it, others dont or vise versa. So is neither pros or cons.

Suggestion:
To enjoy HD Audio, get a bluray player with 7.1 channel out and connect that to your 7.1 channel in. Your BD player also need to be capable in decoding DTS Master audio and dolby ThrueHD. Example : Panasonic BD80.

Next get your favorite BD and enjoy.... smile.gif

Actually Panasonic BD60 already got 7.1 channel and capable in decoding DTS Master audio and dolby TrueHD. nod.gif The only different I know between BD60 and BD80 is BD80 support Dvix.

BD60 doesn't have the analog 7channel out. The BD80 has. he cant use the HDMI to send audio to his AVR.

BD60 doesn't have the analog 7channel out. The BD80 has.  he cant use the HDMI to send audio to his AVR.

Why can't he use BD60 to send HD audio via HDMI to the AVR? If BD60 can do the audio decoding it should be possible no?

Edit: I see the problem must be the HDMI pass through on the Onkyo 506. Only does video and not audio.

well seriuslycold is right, u should have asked before you buy.

Next get your favorite BD and enjoy.... smile.gif

actually i am new to the audio world, i am here just to share the price which i bought, so that other might have a price guideline.

of course i knew that seriuslycold wont be jealous of my entry level receiver, just to tease him....... tongue.gif , as he was not answering my question (i was asking whether worth or not, u should answer either YES or NO).

anyway, no offence, ok notworthy.gif
