this is the cheapest and smallest i can find in the market edi liaw..
no other brand offering such small form factor at that price.
i think vga also not so bad rite?

Added on February 28, 2010, 11:44 pmand btw, is 8ms framerate considered very slow?

but if you do not mind seeing flicker when playing movie or playing game..
u can still go for it though...

Honestly, I owned 3 LCDs in my life so far and this is my experience:

a) 15" Philips LCD - 35ms
b) Dell E1905FP @ MVA panel - 8ms
c) HP LP2475w @ IPS panel - 5ms

I can notice incredibly ghosting on the old 15" Philips LCD. Well, that's expected as the panel carrying a 35ms spec. However, for both my E1905FP and LP2475w at 8ms and 5 ms respectively, I experienced no ghosting even played fast-paced FPS like Crysis etc. I do watch movie, especially blu-ray source at 1080p, no ghosting as well.

I'm not sure how you guys really could have spotted the ghosting effect from 12ms panel and below. I do have a very sensitive eyes myself and I couldn't notice any ghosting effect at all. I believe, panel with 12ms and below are good to go.

That's just my 2 cents and hope did not offended anyone smile.gif

Thanks.. I guess abit out of my budget lol.. =P

Btw wats the difference between IPS and TN?

Im leaning towards the Acer S243HL. Anyone got any reason for me NOT to get this monitor?

Also can anyone recommend me should I go to Lowyat or Digital Mall or any other place (good price, after-sales service) for this or to look at other monitors?

Much appreciated!

the philips 15inch always dispaly full screen when i play a video.
cannot make it minimize when playing video.. how come? i have to look at my laptop in order to close the video cuz when palying video, what is shown on my monitor is different from laptop.
*
I'm just guessing your situation since you did not elaborate in full details.

I assume you're attaching the 15" Philips to your laptop as secondary display (extended desktop) rather than you're expecting it to be primary display (switching) since you mentioned what shown in your monitor is different than your laptop.

To disable extended desktop view, simply goto display properties and uncheck the "Extended Desktop" option. Display properties where you set your screen resolution and color bit. Then from there, you should be able to select your primary display.

BTW, laptop usually come with short-cut function key on your keyboard that enable you to switch display between 3 modes:
    1. Laptop ONLY
    2. Monitor ONLY
    3. Laptop and Monitor
You can toggle between the modes by the same short-cut key.

Hope this will help.

if u now using IPS panel lcd..

will u use back TN panel lcd??

i'm now using it 20" ips panel, plan to sell it n change to a 24" bigger tn panel lcd..

If you can't tell a different between IPS and TN panel with your bare eyes (please forgot what you read all about panels for that moment), perhaps that would be fine.

Where else you have a sensitive eyes and can tell the colour reproduction isn't as vibrant as an IPS can do, then might as well stick with IPS that's all biggrin.gif

Furthermore, U2410 is quite affordable these days smile.gif

Dilemma here...

Just bought a PS3 recently and planning to buy another LCD to hook it up on.

Currently I'm using HP LP2475w which is an IPS panel. I hooked up my PS3 on it and it just works brilliantly.

I'm wondering whether to pick just a good affordable ST2410 or another premium alike U2410 for my PS3 experience. But giving the premium price for U2410, I can actually save and head for larger LCD TV.

ST2410 or U2410 now? Hmm...

Apple Cinema Display 30"

Go get it smile.gif

Or there is one 24" HP LCD, IPS panel with LED backlite, approx RM8K++ if not mistaken.

I'm not sure about LCD TV price nowadays but good one with Full HD is RM3k+ at least?

If you don't mind about TN panel, ST2410 is way to go, HDMI support... exactly for Home entertainment, CCFL backlight.
U2410 however is IPS so expect price difference from TN and you can't compare TN and IPS, IPS for teh pro (in graphics).

Anyway if you have many people watching, go for LCD TV for the sake of size.
*
If LCD TV, I'll be opting for around 40". That's an item in my long-term list, but not necessary for the moment. How soon will the item reach or whether it will reach or not, also not necessary since my point for LCD TV just enjoyment of HD videos and PS3 which currently laid upon my HP LP2475w IPS LCD.

I'm just opting for an extra LCD because not all days I'll be at home. On working days, I'll be staying outside and that's the plan for the LCD to be there, PS3 purpose.

Beside ST2410, is there any other comparable LCD in the same league for 1080p display? Any Samsung's perhaps? hmm.gif

for the price and the purpose....seriously go for LCD TV. especially since u planning on 40" above. id recommend u save the money and go with the LCD TV. in the meantime just use the current LCD monitor til uve managed to get the TV.
*
Hmm... then says I would get a decent and budget LCD for my PS3 at the moment. Would ST2410 be the best pick around or any comparable contender from Samsung, etc? LED backlite from Samsung or Acer?

Seriously LCD TV will be quite a long way for me to make it up now. I'm just opting to get a display so I can play PS3 on my working days too, which will be placed at the place I'm living during working days smile.gif

ST2410 would get my vote then....bang for buck...but purely for display only...

unless u need built in speakers than the ST2410 is out of the list as it doesnt have any.

Well, I already expected display only be display and no audio. I'll look into alternative speaker for the audio part.

ST2410? Alright, lets see if there's any pretty bargain for ST2410 during PC Fair smile.gif

Samsung LED back-light are still far expensive, I would get Dell G2410H but not for everyone due to lack of HDMI port.

And, as far as I have seen, the Samsung TN panel quality is getting poorer by the day, maybe due to manufacturing cost, it's getting cheaper.

If you want to get Samsung, go for the latest LED back-light, around RM1,000 and the display is a wonder.

I have no recommendation of Acer product, since it has bad reputation (never have one before) and the review also very bad.

My personal opinion, the stand is fugly, like lizard with elephant leg.

I actually tried out the XL2370 at one cyber-cafe nearby my area laugh.gif. I didn't notice it was LED till I noticed the LED word on the bezel and then the contrast really significant. Colour reproduction wise, far matching my current running IPS in my room tongue.gif

As most people said, for LED, you'll see BLACK (Dark) colours are darker while WHITE (Bright) colours are brighter. I couldn't notice much different between LED and normal CCFL backlite then. Ouch, unless mentioning CCFL bleeding, that is inevitable.

XL2370 vs ST2410... Samsung doesn't produce any 24" LED backlite yet? huh.gif

Hehe, both of us were kinda popular in Edifier's thread back then tongue.gif. Many people remember us actually due to that conversation about R501 MK-II laugh.gif doh.gif

I'm still waiting for PC Fair to see if Dell would actually giving out any extra discount to their ST2410, perhaps by then I'll make my definite decision about getting ST2410 smile.gif

last i heard Pioneer was backing out from making plasmas already...

n yeah.... Plasmas are awesome... better color reproduction and no ghosting biggrin.gif
my R501 only 1 set is still in use....for my htpc...the gaming rig is the footstool one... was thinking about selling them both to fund for speaker upgrade for HTPC...but pokai now...need to save money for wedding biggrin.gif

i still want speakers for my main rig just in case i feel like using it tongue.gif
*
Actually, Plasma would be better off than LED LCD for big screenie? unsure.gif

I would actually love to upgrade my R501 MK-II, but the current setting already over-kill for my small room biggrin.gif. Unless my plan to refurnish my living room arrived, I'll just stick with the R501 MK-II at the moment.

QUOTE(lex @ Apr 14 2010, 06:35 PM)
If the LCD TV is full HD (1920x1080) then it would look very much like any (huge) computer LCD monitor. However if its the non-HD ones (1366x768) then the text looks rather large and blocky/pixelated (due to the pixel size).
*
Neither way, at the moment it is impossible to find a LCD-TV that can actually produce the sharpness for text of a LCD monitor. Unless you use your display only for the big object in display such as gaming, watching video, etc. It's still recommended to get LCD monitor for text displaying purpose like viewing word, pdf, etc.

I just paid a visit to LYP just now after work. Again, it has been a while since I last stepped in to a place I used to visit at least once in a week or two back in those old school days.

Many changes overall compared to the LYP back in years, I'm wondering if Sungei Wang will generating lower revenue due to LYP nowdays laugh.gif

Anyway, ends of sentimental. I just wanted to share an experience with you guys which I had just now. Almost hilarious or perhaps just too sad for it.

I walked into Dell's showroom and was browsing around. Then a sales guy approached me and I pointed at a monitor (I'm not so sure if it was ST2410, so I'm just trying to get a clarification).

Here we go...

Me: What's the model of this monitor?
Sales: *points at the Dell logo on the monitor bezel and said* It's a Dell model.
Me: Err... okay. (Hoping he got me wrong and so I ask again) I know obviously it is a Dell since this is a Dell showroom. Again, what's the model of the monitor?
Sales: *points on the description (written in wordpad) on the screen* It's a FullHD... HDMI... LCD Monitor.
Me: Okay, thanks and bye.

I doh.gif myself for wasting my time...

2 units! wow, yeah prefer 2 as well since most display nowadays can support that

Wow, so many suggesting not to take the Belkin cable from Dell sweat.gif, thanks for the reminder notworthy.gif

As for the warranty wise... I also not sure. Previously for my Dell E1905FP, I took the extra 2 years warranty for just RM50 smile.gif

@Shoot@M3
I'm not going for dual-display. I already got a 24" IPS running in my room tongue.gif. The ST2410 just to place at my rented room which I stays during weekdays so I can play after work laugh.gif. The other ST2410 belongs to my friend, he just tumpang order smile.gif

I couldn't confirm about VGA vs HDMI, but I can surely tells there's a big different between VGA and DVI. I guess it'll still pour a different, since it's analog vs digital cool2.gif

Received it on Thursday, but only booted it up last night for testing tongue.gif

Well, basically the display is good, but immediately upon 1st viewing will be able to tell how an IPS can be better than TN. The display just couldn't put up a fight against my HP LP2475w's IPS. Definitely, the price wise also much different.

Anyway, anyone here got good setting to tune up the ST2410 and care to share out? smile.gif
