QUOTE(vearn27 @ Apr 14 2010, 11:28 AM)
Dilemma here...

Just bought a PS3 recently and planning to buy another LCD to hook it up on.

Currently I'm using HP LP2475w which is an IPS panel. I hooked up my PS3 on it and it just works brilliantly.

I'm wondering whether to pick just a good affordable ST2410 or another premium alike U2410 for my PS3 experience. But giving the premium price for U2410, I can actually save and head for larger LCD TV.

ST2410 or U2410 now? Hmm...
*
for the price and the purpose....seriously go for LCD TV. especially since u planning on 40" above. id recommend u save the money and go with the LCD TV. in the meantime just use the current LCD monitor til uve managed to get the TV.

ST2410 would get my vote then....bang for buck...but purely for display only...

unless u need built in speakers than the ST2410 is out of the list as it doesnt have any.

I'm wondering did any of u guys use a 32" Full HD LCD TV as a the primary monitor? i'm wondering will it degrade text quality? i can't get a chance to see the result myself. i understand watching movie and gaming shall work fantastic but what about text display and long hour staring at it? I'm planning myself an upgrade either to go for samsung 27" or samsung LCD TV 32" which will cost double... i know...
btw, 32" will be max for my setup and i won't go anything beyond that scale biggrin.gif

If the LCD TV is full HD (1920x1080) then it would look very much like any (huge) computer LCD monitor. However if its the non-HD ones (1366x768) then the text looks rather large and blocky/pixelated (due to the pixel size). wink.gif
*
wat lex said is true.... the bolded part...

i use a 42" HD Ready Plasma on my HTPC and text is blurry. readable but still blurry.

but personally to me...if u want a monitor...buy a monitor. not a TV. better response time etc.

RM50 can get DVI-HDMI cable in mid valley....so other places might be cheaper.

DVI-DVI cable costs typically around RM25 for 2 meter....n thats considered slightly expensive...

depending on where u buy u can probably get it for about RM12.

just thought id highlight something regarding the Dell ST2410. been wanting to share this for some time but keep forgetting.

this is in regards to the bezel design....

look at 1st pic...notice the white part? how it "comes out"...this could be an issue for those like me, who wants to put dual monitors side by side and have no gaps between the bezel.

user posted image

that white thingy kinda makes that impossible. the following 2 pictures show wat i mean and why the white thingy blocks it.

ive put 2 different background colors (orange and blue) in between the monitors for u to see the gap and also how the white part blocks it.

user posted image
user posted image

as u see... the white thingy that comes out at the lower corners doesnt allow the monitors to be right next to each other... there will have to be a small gap about 2-3mm. this is the closest i can get it.

and yes.....my monitors are dusty tongue.gif

EDIT: take note that this is only 1 of 2 issues i have with the ST2410....the other issue is that it doesnt come with digital video cables...only vga cable...but thats easily rectified.

other than these 2 issues... id have to say that the ST2410 is an excellent monitor. and its up to u guys who wanna run dual monitors to decide whether or not this thing i mentioned will be an issue to u.

does it mean when HDMI carries thru the sound, u can plug in speaker/sound bar speakers here so the sound can come out thru it?

ahh icic, thx for the info
i guess this is good for those consoles or Home theatre kind of setup where sound carried thru like that, so they can jack it up to a pc/home theatre speaker

but if we compare the sound quality thru HDMI and our own PC sound card (taking eg.. a Creative X-Fi Elite pro), which is having better sound quality? my guess is still the Elite Pro in this case?
*
the x-fi would be better....when using HDMI for audio to the monitor, the monitors onboard DAC (aka sound processor) will be doing the processing... and it would most likely be a cheapo DAC...as compared to the X-Fi's (most likely) better DAC.

@EyraYus
700 can get u the very popular 24" Dell ST2410 @ RM679

then use the balance to buy a cheapo DVI cable...coz it only comes with vga cable

just went over to dell's webby, prices of ST2210 and 2209WA have risen since yesterday when I placed the order~ ST2410 is still RM679 but no more bundle offer with the V3V RM50 printer~ this should be their pricing tactic for PC Fair to clear stock~

I think I'll have to stick with ST2210 instead of 2209WA~ crap~

have u tried calling their service advisor?

Is that true ? IPS wins on LED ?
*
lets get one thing straight...

IPS and LED are 2 DIFFERENT THINGS.

IPS is the panel itself and LED is how the panel is backlit.

as for why people say IPS wins LED....its because most LED monitors are using TN Panels.

kuro isnt a monitor... tongue.gif

the biggest monitor available to us would be the 30" apple and dell monitors.

though i doubt consoles can go up to a resolution that high.
