Okay, just want to know how you guys buy games.

do you read the review first?

or go check for the ratings?

or just.." wow, nice cover! ", " Nice cover art!,buy! "
___________________________________________

so, i just wanna find out how people buy games.

Like me, i would go online and find the reviews and buy if the ratings if over 7.5/10.

Whoever did that must be like... doh.gif

It depends on the genre of the game. Sometimes, there are games that are overhyped by people, but unfortunately,
if the genre doesn't suit me, I won't buy it.

Reviews, experience if it was a sequesl and public [forum hype]. If GameAxis and Gamespot give it less that 6, that's a crappy one.

Personal experience also matters [hate RPG's coz my bro always hogged em n pwned me when I was young =.=*]

I usually go by review/word of mouth. Unless it's part of a franchise I collect, then I bypass all reviews and get it, even if it sucks.

I tend to head over to GameFAQs and looked up the game forums. Based on the questions asked and reviews given, can roughly get an idea how the game is like. Of course, YouTube makes it much easier to have a feel too.

Metacritic is good for a general idea on how well the game is received by the game reviewers.

In the end, sometimes it still depends on myself though. GOW series dominated a lot of score charts and gotten more than enough fans, but I have yet to actually ever play it at all. Instead of getting GOW for my PS3, I ended up getting Disgaea 3 (loving it madly) which is far less valued so far.

The buying process seems pretty consistent for most, but it really depends on how much time you have on your hands.

In my case, I always checkout game reviews before I buy them and considering I don't have that much time to play them, I tend to only get games that are rated >= 8.5 on Gamespot. On the rare occasion I might get a game if I like the subject matter, i.e. Forced Unleashed.

Also, I know what games I like and am also conscious of how much time a particular game will take to play and because of that I stay clear of RPGs.

Since I'm a completionist, I tend to try my level best to get all achievements (guess you know which console I prefer) for the game that I'm playing before moving on to another game... this way I feel that I've got my monies worth.

So for me its about how much quality entertainment and fun I get for the amount spent.....

collect the review from various sources,
search for it at youtube,
see trophies at ps3trophies.org <- no trophies confirm no buy except super exciting famous game like MGS 4.
see is there any used game yet in garage sales

then there are 2 option,

a)if there are used game, buy a used one
b)if there are none, search the cheapest at shop<-garage sales shop

pay him using online banking.

IGN is way to overrated,i'd rather go www.metacritic.com to check scores. At least that place have more reviews.

Pretty much i just see Metacritic or go with my gut feelings by watching the trailer/gameplay.If i feel like i will have fun with the game i will just get it.Seldom listen to other opinion since every1 has different taste...or just rent the game see if u like it or not...simple.

Usually I look for game rating that is based on User's review but not the one that is rated by game reviewer. Look for user's feedback after buying the game and look for gameplay video on youtube

Not really in term of exact taste but someone that share same gaming perspective as you as gamer.
Since i sincerely do not think a review can be truly unbiased.
and yea, it does beat the function of game reviews therefore i never trusted it!
feels like i'm contradicting myself sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

I usually buy online coz looking for used games. New games also buy online. Guess that answer the 'how' question.

If you ask me why, it's because I like the genre. And I'll go look for the review. Then I will look at the gameplay, would it suit me. Woth my time and money or not.

Sometimes my friends would reccommend me what to buy. Knowing them have the same taste as me, I'll trust them and buy

1. series i like
2. genre i like
3. trailers i like - especially gameplay trailer

I never buy game looking at the price.
Just decide to buy, then only know what the price of it.
First person shooter a no-no to me no matter how great the graphic is.
about review, yeah i dont really trust all the review site,
since there's a lot of reviewer of different kind and not all of them same taste.
i rather agree with youtube personal review by Jeremy Jahn's
his taste almost always spot on to me. even his movie review too
