You can't drive your car into Langkawi but you can bring it over via transport company. A lot of hassles though. You have to drive your car to Kuala Kedah and leave the car with the transport company like Lim Thye Kiang, Pertiwi or Lada transport or something. They will prepare the custom's documentation. You will collect your car in Tg.Lembung jetty in Langkawi only the next day or sometimes another day later. When you want to send the car out back to mainland, the reverse is done. The charges is definately more than you rent a car if you are using it for a few days. Last I heard it was RM200 one way.

One more thing, The car is only insured up to their maximum cargo liabilities. Your insurance do not cover if the poontoon or barge sinks,LOL. Else you have to buy separate insurance coverage. During the 90s, 2 Peugeot 405s sunk and they only get paid RM400, ha,ha,ha as their maximum liability is RM200 per item.

Isn't it nice when the Star Cruise ferry was operating.It can carry more than 100 cars and takes only 2 hours to reach Langkawi from Butterworth and vice versa. They dock at Awana Porto Malai in Langkawi. I tried it once and it cost RM700 for return trip. The ferry was sold off for a profit and it was not feasible for the Butterworth - Langkawi route.
