I'm new here and I just noticed this thread here. I'm quite interested in older consoles and such, though more on playing them instead of collecting them.

QUOTE(LiangZhuge @ Mar 14 2011, 08:30 PM) Hi Volvagia356, My MegaDrive is originally a NTSC-J unit, the previous owner stupidly modified it to be PAL-J which is a non-existent region. This leads to a few game being unplayable. How you managed to get the Sega Genesis to be region mod ? Was it a stock Jap/ US NTSC ? Heard that PAL version if modded you get black and white if you put in NTSC mode ? Very interested as I have a couple of PAL machine =) I followed this guide to add the region switches to my system. This allows me to freely set my console to be NTSC-J, NTSC-U, PAL-E and PAL-J (nonexistent). I can switch between NTSC and PAL even while the console is on. I did not encounter the the black and white screen issue. I don't know if this is because the previous owner modified it before, or because it doesn't apply to my system or if my TV could accept the weird signal. Just follow the first guide first, it's quite simple if you paid attention to Kemahiran Hidup class in Form 1-3, just 6 wires and 2 switches, no circuit boards. If you get that issue, follow this guide which is more complicated and requires a circuit board and a few electronic components. Note that the guide only applies to the older MD1 (like mine). If yours is the newer MD2, you'll have to follow this guide. It's a lot more complicated though. This post has been edited by Volvagia356: Mar 14 2011, 09:53 PM |

Is it difficult/expensive to get hold of arcade related stuff? I'm kinda tempted to walk into an arcade here and ask if they're willing to sell older stuff...

Picked up an old CRT monitor from 1999 kept in storage at grandparents' place.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « IT'S.... SO.... BEAUTIFUL.... Another interesting thing is, I plugged this old thing to a modern PC, set the resolution to 1920x1080, and guess what? IT FREAKING WORKS! Ran a few modern games on it, all works almost perfectly. Only problems are that about 20 pixels get cut off the left and right sides and there's a high pitched noise from the monitor. And modern LCD monitors now complains and shuts itself off when I set it to a resolution it's not happy with....... This post has been edited by Volvagia356: May 23 2011, 11:33 AM |

QUOTE(Faidzal @ May 23 2011, 12:06 PM) Actually, it's using the space above the modem slot, I would never sacrifice old functionality for mods, unless accidental.I've even posted a picture of it a few pages back QUOTE(Volvagia356 @ Mar 14 2011, 01:29 AM) And you even commented on it!QUOTE(Faidzal @ Mar 14 2011, 12:06 PM) Cool, the 2nd Dreamcast VGA mod I saw in Lowyat. I think one guy posted his mod, but uses the 56k modem slot as the place to put the female VGA port.... Anyways, it's actually the first time I played that game. Living in a rural area, I never even heard of the SNES, MD, N64, DC, etc. until I got broadband (Thanks, Streamyx).Still cannot top that awesome DC X LCD X Mini Compo mod...... Am I the youngest person who's interested in these? I'll be 18 in two more months. |

Anyone know of any places in Penang or KL where you can easily find old consoles and games? It sucks having the consoles but no games to play on them...
Also, anyone have experience with the Game Doctor SF7's parallel port? I hooked it up to an old PC and used UCON64 but it just doesn't seem to work right. It detects the PC and the PC can transfer the file, but it always gets stuck at 99% on the PC while the GDSF7 thinks that transfer has completed. |

Managed to pick this up somewhere, RM15 is a really good price for it!
It's a Sears Super Pong console! Pictures: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « And yes, it works on a modern 40" LCD HDTV (no pictures though, forgot to take them) |
