QUOTE(LiangZhuge @ Mar 1 2016, 02:45 PM) Megadrive 1 (with audio jack ) should be relative easy to find locally right (flea market/ lelong.com/ etc) ? Depends on flea Market, some said it easier to find and i dont mod My console since i dont know how to do itI re-modded my PAL back to NTSC plus wire an extra composite video (yellow cable), with JAP/US region mod but to lazy to wire audio cables and use the audio jack direct last year. Note that in Malaysia there was no official PAL megadrive 1, so the ones we got was modded by a factory somewhere (HK perhaps) using a JAP NTSC, and you can reverse back the changed by jumping back some cables. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bfXsDYmv6A...3JFbwk56wnIuOiQ |

QUOTE(LiangZhuge @ Mar 1 2016, 05:29 PM) There is always Youtube Last time I opened my Saturn i need to send back to my specialist to assemble it hahahahaTruth be told, I am not really electronics guy (more of a hobbyist) and pick it up when trying to repair some of the aging console. My Soldering skill is still very bad with blobs of solder If you can't get it from flea market, another good way is try to get it from your family or friends, some are just eager to throw it away or forgotten about it and left it in a closet for ages. Maybe I'm just stick with a normal one |

QUOTE(Faidzal @ Mar 8 2016, 05:44 PM) gamefan is still the best when nick rox and takuhi were still there. Game fan a bit pricey compare to EGM at that timethen followed by tips & tricks (bcos of Jason Wilson). and gamepro when they had ppl like slasher quan (matt taylor) and that guy that does hilarious game reviews... but then video game mags became meta bcos of the edge's influence. for me retro gamer is probably the best mag right now due to the nostalgia factor. later I upload pic of my gamefan collection (2 years + worth). unfortunately gamefan is not available online unlike certain mags bcos dave Halverson had warned everyone who tried to archive the mags into pdf form... |

QUOTE(tripleB @ Mar 8 2016, 06:22 PM) I was a dedicated PC gamer in the 80s and 90s, and only because my dad uses a PC for work in the 80s. Later on in 1997, I needed an excuse to beg for a PC because I needed to do assigments (sure... assignments). Pc mags usually comes with demo is it?I used to buy Computer Gaming World religiously, and later on, PC Gamer too. I also bought some stuff like Brady Games' guides to Tekken, Final Fantasy VII, etc. And only knew about EGM and EGM2 from a friend. And I then became a loyal EGM reader too. Loved the occasional pullouts or posters EGM used to give out. Today's game mags are kinda lacking in actual news coverage, but I feel it's because most information are on the Internet nowadays. So I don't buy magazines as often as I used to anymore. But they will always have a special place in my heart. I only collect egm.egm2 mainly for guide and have u heard mags named incite video games? |

QUOTE(tripleB @ Mar 9 2016, 05:17 PM) Back before the Internet became common, game magazines were my go-to place to get game demos. Computer Gaming World (CGW) and PC Gamer gave away some cool stuff back in the day. That's where I first learned about the Turok Dinosaur Hunter port for PC (!) in 1997. Incite videogames I think around 2000 after Dc been released but only managed for 1 years before been stopped hahahaI also bought a ton of EGM and EGM2 back then. They had some exclusive contents, like first reveals, interviews, artwork, and of course the occasional pullouts. And sometimes they have stuff like the Fighting Games Special issue. I still have almost all of my magazines! I've never heard about Incite Video Games though. What year was that? Err I never used that somehow. I was more of a PC Gamer UK and PC Zone reader in the mid 90s, then later on did I move to PC Gamer US. One of the coolest thing I ever got was a DVD demo that came with PC Gamer UK. Back in 2000, it was very rare to find DVD ROM drives on most desktops, since it was still expensive. Anyway, that demo disc was so packed with content, including Alone in the Dark, Blair Witch chapter 1 and Nocturne. Nocturne in particular impressed the hell out of me. I was already on Geforce 256 DDR, and that game showcased how well DX7 (hardware transform and lighting) implementation can be done. And it was the first game to use Terminal Reality's Infernal engine, which went on to spawn the Bloodrayne games. Egm I started seriously back 2000 before that cannot afford to buy, still in primary school.occasionally I bought game fan, game pro,cvg and Sega power.those mags were rocked |

QUOTE(tripleB @ Mar 10 2016, 12:07 PM) I didn't read much of Gamefan, Gamepro or CVG, but I remember in 1993, when I had a friend who was really into Megadrive, I used to go through tons of Sega Power. Man, if my dad allowed us to have a Megadrive, I think Sega Power would have been a strong influencer for buying games haha. 1994 i just got MD2,those MK were superb since SNES version didnt have the gore and blood.at that times UK pound still ok about times 4 with RM and US dollar 2.5.I had like 3 friends who had Megadrives. 1 of them was using a Japanese Megadrive, so he was the odd kid out of the three, because he couldn't share games. But he did brag about having Super Shinobi II, which caused the gamers in the class to get jealous. Since I only had an AMD 386 SX/33 with only 2MB RAM, no sound card, no CD drive, my gaming experiences were limited to repeats of Golden Axe, Bubble Bobble, Outrun, Shinobi, and the "PC version" of Street Fighter II. For those who remember, there was an unofficial version of Street Fighter II for PC, which I think was ported from the PC Engine version. The digitized speed were there, playable just on the built-in PC Speaker. It only had the 8 World Warriors, and even then, Dhalsim was swapped out for another Guile. No bosses, no endings. But man, Street Fighter II on PC! |
