For those who watched the video demos and noticed the lagging, note that it is very early prototype.. also, lagging is only in the SE custom apps ..namely the TimeScape and MediaScape apps.. the Android OS and the built in apps like google maps and browser are FAST. So, it is a matter of SE needing to optimize their custom apps.

Heard that X10 will eventually be upgraded to Android 2.0 (multi-touch and BT file transfer) smile.gif

And then the screen color... it's not 16Mil or 256K ... it's 64K colors biggrin.gif ..... see the answers straight from the X10 Global Marketing Manager:
http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/200...your-questions/

Not sure if this is Android OS 1.5 / 1.6 limitation .. as HTC Hero also has 64K colors.... but Moto Droid has 16Mil colors (Android 2.0)

This article was written in 2005 ... i think the article is not entirely applicable now biggrin.gif

Basically the article explains that it's not efficient to display more than 64K colors because of memory usage, processing speed, LCD display technology etc.

But we are almost in 2010 now... we have 1GHZ processor, more RAM, graphics processor ... so why not smile.gif

Wanted to go for the X10 but after seeing the specs, have to rethink:

1. I think 64K colors is OS limited ? (HTC Magic, Tattoo & Hero also run Android 1.5/1.6 and only have 64K colors).... so if it is later upgraded to Android 2.0, can it show 16M colors?

2. No front camera (no video-call support for Android OS?) -- but still ok, don't use video call anyway smile.gif

3. No FM radio

And at the moment, SE can't even get their specs straight yet (the official site states 16536 colors, the press release states 256K colors, the White Paper states 64K colors... now finally the Product Manager says 64K color)

The specs also don't show Digital Compass anywhere but today some1 from the SE developers forum said he tested and there is a working digital compass.

Well, wait a few more weeks for SE to sort out and release their complete specs, and also more details and explanations may surface.

Oh yea... 2010 will be very interesting for Android, Maemo.. even WinMo (but WinMo 7 device may only be available after mid-2010)

2010 will see HTC Dragon, Nokia N9XX (Maemo with capacitive screen??), Google Phone?? and X10 smile.gif

Btw, SE has officially announced that X10 will be updated to Android 2.0 (16Million color display.. the current screen is capable but Android 1.6 supports only 65K)

The only problem is I need one NOW.. and there is none that is good enough smile.gif

XP750,
You got it for a damn good price smile.gif

Can you try the photo light? Does it work like a camera flash where the light flashes when you shoot a photo?

Or is it you can only switch it either OFF or CONTINUOUSLY ON ?

Thanks.

Seems like the screen hardware is only single-touch .. NOT dual-touch or multi-touch. (from the official SE blog)

Then, even future update to Android 2.x won't help as on-screen typing and gaming reliability/experience can't be improved without at least the screen hardware supporting dual-touch.

What do you guys think? Worth it? Is there even any other high-end smartphone (with capacitive screen) with only SINGLE-TOUCH screen?

It's not confirmed yet. Wait till SE or any trusted devs confirmed it. Coz x10 is using capacitive screen as well
*
I hope so too, will wait for further clarification... but here's what written by Rikard Skogberg from SE, after confirmation with his tech guys:

"Regarding the discussion around dual/multi touch. I would definitely expect someone to tell me in that confirmation if it would be dual-touch. So expect it to be single touch only – sorry."

Well according to one post inside xda-developers forum. The hardware itself support multi touch and has been confirm by SE Tech support staff.

Haha.. seems like SE is giving out mixed infos ... well, everyone is cursing on the official SE blog, so just wait for another day for official info. But not too optimistic as the info from the official blog seems to be more recent.

.... the keyboard acts up if you type fast, letters just go missing eg.  a fox jmped over te fence.

This may be the screen sensitivity issue OR due to absence of multi-touch detection on the screen. Now still waiting for reliable confirmation whether the LCD hardware supports at least dual-touch. If not, even updating to Android 2.x won't help. (Android 2.x supports multitouch but the hardware MUST also must support it)

If the screen is not full multitouch, hopefully it is at least dualtouch capable. Else, there won't be much improvement in typing reliability even if the OS is updated to Android 2.x.... also, some apps and games that require dualtouch or multitouch can't be fully utilized.

PS: The official SE blog states that NO multitouch is supported due to software and HARDWARE ... not sure if this means the screen hardware is dual-touch or worse, single-touch.

I think the X10 does support multi-touch. After all it is a capacitive screen so the hardware is definitely capable. 2.1's requirement is multi-touch. We saw a lot of Android devices that started without that support but gained multi-touch when updated to 2.1 or customized when in 1.6.
*
Three types of Capacitive screen:
1. Single touch
2. Dual touch (detects up to 2 finger press at the same time)
3. Multi touch (detects up to 10 finger press at the same time)

I hope X10 uses at least Dual Touch ... as Multi Touch has been ruled out by official SE info (in the official SE blog) ... I think only iPhone has full Multi Touch screen(I think Nexus One and other HTC models use Dual Touch screen)

Yes, Android 2.x supports multitouch but X10 started development long time ago with Android 1.6 (no multitouch)... and SE has ruled out multitouch support in SE HARDWARE .. but not so clear about Dual Touch yet.......... I think it will be more clear in a day or two.

I've always stayed clear of UIQ haha.

Will be watching SE's official blog for any FINAL info on the screen... the comments are getting very heated over there biggrin.gif

Come to think of it... if this phone REALLY cannot support more than one point touch. Then no hope for gaming already. So many games require two finger to control.

There's already a landslide rage over that those forums due to this announcement. They better do something.
*
There're other simple games available... board games, word games haha.

Ok, jokes aside, I've waited so many months for this beauty and now this bombshell... damn, HTC Desire seems more desirable now. [just finished reading the Desire (final ROM and hardware) review at http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/ ]

The Desire is marvelous but still love the looks of X10... damn.

PS: If the X10 really has single-touch screen.. may still consider buying if SE cuts the price drastically... as they clearly chose to use cheap components and therefore shouldn't charge premium price. biggrin.gif

SE is famous for being lazy in producing updates. It took them ages to produce an update most of the time. To them it's like once sold it's your own problem. My aino been seating around with no updates since the last two they make which is kind of minor changes only. They boasted before 2009 that they gonna fully utilized aino's function but till now it's april and no news.Been kind of long since x10's release and till now still droid 1.6. I'm already prepared for the worst to drop this phone before putting myself on SE's bait. Gonna say byebye to sony ericsson since they are kind of irresponsible to update their phones and only fond of flooding the market with more new phones. Worst of all there's no price control towards their phone. It could be selling like almost 3k but after 2-3mths later, the price could juz plunge to 1.5-1.6k in a short time.
*
If X10 drops to below 1.5~1.6K in 2~3 months... I'll definitely buy it biggrin.gif ...........love the X10 design, but after the X10 hardware fiasco (single touch screen, screen sensitivity, photo light etc) now still considering HTC Desire

I've a strong feeling that X10 was NEVER meant to run Android 2.x ... only after pressure by many ppl, SE promise to release update for Android 2.x

Yea, still waiting for the Aino firmware update.. any way to know when a new firmware is released?? Where will it be announced?

well the 1 of the few things i heard that x10 will benefit from 2.1 upgrade is screen gets 16million colors

any1 knows wat 2.1 will give to x10?

just like how we know 2.1 will not provide multitouch due to hardware issues
*
More homescreens (7 if i rmb correctly), live wallpaper, camera flash support, bugfixes & faster speed, better Bluetooth stack (but SE has already done some good job with the 1.6 BT tho) and other improvements.

But X10 won't get the most important feature for Android 2.0.. the multitouch smile.gif

7 homescreens?

will x10 get flash support with 2.1? because if not wrong the led is meant for off/on only lol
*
Depends on how SE will implement Android 2.x.

Currently the X10 camera LED is ON or OFF only.. Android 2.x supports camera flash (like a normal camera), but will SE implement it? Same as the number of homescreens, currently is 3, but will SE implement more in the future? Only SE knows at the moment.

Also forgot to mention that Android 2.x supports 16million display color, instead of 64K colors (Android 1.6)

Android 2.0 at the end on the year? If true, then it's outdated on release, again.. others are already releasing high-end devices running Android 2.1 now. By end of the year, other manufacturers may already be using Android Froyo or even Gingerbread doh.gif

PS: Froyo may be called Android 2.5 and released around May (This is just rumour, not confirmed at all, don't quote me) smile.gif

Looking to buy one also. But waiting for upgrades with multi-touch, Android v2 & swype before I buy it.

Anyone have any idea regarding the upgrades and arrival in M'sia?

Android 2.x update is rumoured to be September. And by the way, there will never be multitouch feature for X10, the hardware only supports single touch.
