Depends on you...

First lets look at the AVR...VSX-1020 will beat VSX 820 hands down...you can't really compare high range and mid range AVR.
1020 has more setting and inputs to play with...and should give a better sound with all that frills.

Speakers...those Infinity Speakers are just an excuse to bump up the sales of the 1020 to make it more attractive for people.

If you are kaki HT....I would go for the 1020 set and ditch those Infinity Speakers for something worthy of the AVR.

If you wan the basic stuff and probably would never think of upgrading again for the next few years...take the RS77B

But first...go to Jaya Jusco in MidValley to see what the commotion is all about.....but as usual...do a little homework and bring along a list....Pioneer amps like 3~4 year ago models are still selling in the market....ppl who never do homework are sure to buy them and regret later

Bro..you need to make a shortlist and go around shops.  blush.gif

Am interested to upgrade my 4-year old Pioneer VSX-516 AV amp. Used it mainly for movies and Astro B and occasionally for music. Have several replacement models in mind like Pioneer VSX-1020K, Onyko 608, Denon 1911, so need advice on which one is a better choice.

Also, does the video up-scalers (Anchor Bay or Faroudja) in these AVR improve PQ considerably?

The Infinity package on their website doesn't match the one I saw at Jaya Jusco, both in terms of model (520 instead of 1020) and prices.

Also, I saw one of the higher end Infinity packages with the VSX-820 was selling for RM7,100 at Harvey Norman about a month back. I asked them the package price if I change the 820 to 1020 and they said that they couldn't give that to me.

I went to Jusco Mid Valley yesterday (Sun) and the RM2999 price tage was no longer there. The Pioneer SA told me the Rm2999 package is actually for 520 plus the Infinity speakers - what a let down as Fuad's earlier photo clearly show the 1020. The SA said the 1020 was put there for demo only and not part of the package.

Flagship AV in Desa Park City is selling the 1020 standalone for RM2,600 with tuning thrown in and Desa Home, Lowyat for RM2,999 for standalone. Both stores no stock and have to wait.

That's a good deal from Flagship. But what's "tuning thrown in"? I may give them a visit.
Nobody bought them. Wasted opportunity.

If you buy the receiver from them, they will tune your system using some specialised equipment for free.
