Well, i bought Altec Lansing VS3251 and have to say quite disappointed with 5.1. Sounds crappy because most videos and all mp3 dont support it. Some games do and it's nice. I notice when i switch to 5.1 mode, alot of bass is lost. When i change to 2.1 (on my pc and speakers), seems to have more realistic bass. If i knew this earlier, i would have just bought 2.1. Anyone wanna buy my 1 week old system for RM350?

Exactly, if i knew earlier, would just stick with 2.1. We are not ready for 5.1 yet.

I just bought the z5500. My first impression was, "what the hell? My 11-12 year old Altec Lansing ADA880 sounds better!" Was so disappointed and then started to fiddle with all the settings to try to improve the sound. But then I let it run in for a few hours, and then the sound started to get better. Goes to prove that it requires burn in and burn in is real. Or maybe after a while I became immune to the bad quality! lol, but no, I believe it just needed burn in.

With regards to the bass being too loud, I didn't feel that at all, not because I'm a basshead. I think mine's the new version and that they took the feedback about the over empowering bass and reduced it. Why do I say that? because at some point I thought my bass was not working. I was like WTF! My sub woofer is not working, I'll need to RMA and put my head/ear next to the sound outlet by the side of the sub woofer (aiya, I don't know how to describe la), and then I could feel some air coming out, so I was like "ok ok .. it works. The sub woofer was a bit tight at the start. Took a long time to loosen up and sound better.

Then I bought a Compass Amp and Denon D2000 & Sennheiser HD650 headphones. I don't use my speakers anymore sad.gif ... Can't stand the sound compared to the headphones. Like the speakers are making the songs worst! @.@ but need to listen to it when my ears can't take the headphones anymore @.@

BUT, conclusion is, today the z5500 sounds a lot better than it did during the first day. I run it through the Compass DAC/Amp via coaxial/rca. And it sounds better than my 12 year old Altec Lansing ADA880 smile.gif Thank God.

That's what happen to me while using my new Altec VS3251. I think next time just going to invest in the real deal. What i mean is real home theater systems.

Distance does make a difference. When playing for Left4Dead on 5.1, i cant hear my rear speakers because placed too far behind. I have to crank up the rear volume. Still, i believe 2.1 is better than 5.1.

Went to audit Z-5500D today in Digital Mall but the unit there is spoiled, they said that the product is discontinued.

Do you guys think it is still worthy to buy? Have to think about warranty issue.

Do you think Logitech will come out with another new product to replace it?

Hmmm, didnt know Logitech also suffers from quality issues. Perhaps the one at the shop was an isolated incidentt? I am targetting Logitech Z-2300, the only system which offers 200watts for below RM600.

I am planning to get Logitech Z-2300. Worth it? It looks like a high end system but from 3-4 years back. I really like the 200 watts, hehehe but then again someone mentioned here that high wattage doesnt mean better or louder audio.

Just swapped my Altec Lansing VS3251 with Sonic Gear EVO7. Ohhh myyy god, cannot believe the difference. EVO7 seems to handle bass better and it's clear too. My first AL and such bad experience. I'm still planning to get Logitech Z-2300 though, will pass the EVO7 to my sister.

You own it? I really wanted to get a Divoom 5.1 but was worried about it's quality since never heard of that brand.

Yeah, only from left side. Are you satisfied with your speakers? I hated mine, sold them off within one month. No bass in 5.1 setting plus subwoofer sounds like not powerful enough.

Can anyone recommend me a 2.1 speaker for my netbook? My budget is RM100 and below and most important must be small. I had Sonic Gear Tatoo 303 or Sonic Gear EGO 3nity in mind because of it's size. But is it any good? Any better recommendation? Thanks in advance!

I only have z2300. Very powerful system but too bassy for movies. Sounds great for songs and games.

Yeah, new Altecs doesnt sound as good as the old ones. I bought Altec Lansing VS3251 confidently because their AC45.1 was so awesome but it was crappy. When crank up abit, the woofer starts to struggle. Had it for few weeks, sold it and bought Z2300. I love boomy bass, hehe!

I agree with enzo520, make sure you demo first before buying, dont trust online or magazine reviews only.

That's why, i thought the vibration from woofer made something loose and hang the PC.
