I've heard many vs4121 midrange isn't very impressive and bass is unstable

but somehow my friend's vs4121 sounded okay (what I mean was okay,not extremely good)
and one of them is at harvey norman and it sounded good

so I'm guessing if you are lucky you'll get those good ones but most likely you'll get the not good ones

Note: I'm speaking through MY experience. ( results may vary )

unless you don't know what to do with your money then spend it on bose

get an edifier e3100
it's good

2.1 means two speakers and one subwoofer for the boom boom part
5.1 means 5 speakers and one subwoofer for the boom boom part (5 speakers so that you can experience surround/cinema sound feel)

if you get a 5.1 then you'll only hear sounds coming through the front left/right sat speakers only
no sound from rear/center and subwoofer.
unless your soundcard can throw out two more inputs

I'd say choose 2.1 instead for better music performance and portability as 5.1 can be very messy

try to get the da5000pro not the da5000 original

vs4121 woofer kept interrupting the vocals when a man talks
it's annoying,too much midbass.

the pro have a tweeter added to each satellite and center speaker, giving much nicer sounding trebles and enhanced vocals.Plus the satellite enclosure is made out of MDF wood
the old one doesn't have tweeter,instead they have dual midrange speakers in each sats and it's enclosure is made out of plastic which isn't very good.

I'd say choose da5000 because can adjust through the sub instead plus some treble volume function.
it'll be dangerous if you lose the remote if you buy r501

but that's your choice,R501 for cheap and DA5000pro for safety and extra function.
test the speakers yourself if got the chance

I actually liked the da5000pro sound quality but because hcs5640 have more functions like radio,usb,sd card,etc and also the external amp. I'd choose them more than sound quality.

also please avoid sonic gear.

where did you live anyway?
I've heard that ikano there got a digital store which sell some speakers. not sure if they supply this two speakers or not.
as far as I know lowyat is the best place to get them. Should try to go there if possible

I guess Mr. Edifier helped solve your problems.

hcs5640 is very different from c3 in sound quality especially in bass
hcs5640 have powerful bass while c3 have ok bass
hcs5640 trebles sounded sharper and higher compared to c3
hcs5640 have extras features that c3 doesn't have which may interfere with the sound quality

if got the chance to get s550 then you better get that one.
worth the price too and the 10" subwoofer can handle the bass better than hcs5640

if you are gonna buy the z2300 be prepared as there is ridiculous amount of bass and poor quality satellites speakers
that means you'll require a good soundcard to increase the performance of the z2300

the main reason why big ass subs are built is to create deep bass that normally can't be heard

but because it has side effects like shake the house,that's one problem
