Hey guys,

If you own an Android, you may want to know a little about the memory too. This is even more important to those who have been using swaps, APPS2SD and rooted applications.

Firstly, your Hero is capable of accommodating up to 32GB memory card. While this makes your Hero the ultimate rival to the iPhone, its recommended that you understand more than just the capacity of the SD card.

First of all, there are a few types of SD cards out there. The common ones that we use are SDHC (SD High-Capacity). There are rare ones out there too which are the SDXC (SD Xtreme Capacity). This is determined by the class of your SD card. Common classes in Malaysia are class 2, class 4 and class 6.

Higher class means faster data read-write rate.
The class 2 SDHC has a speed of 13x (2.0Mbps).
The class 4 SDHC has a speed of 26x (4.0Mbps).
The class 6 SDHC has a speed of 40x (6.0Mbps).

Faster read-write especially for the class 6 will improve the speed of your Hero accessing the applications on your SD card.

Personally, I have tested out my HTC Hero which is running the Amon Ra 1.2.3 recovery, MoDaCo 2.8 ROM and Teknologist Linux kernel v1.7 on these cards:
4GB SDHC class 4
8GB SDHC class 6

The results were significantly different! The class 6 SDHC has shown a crazy improvement of my already fast Hero. I formatted both SD cards with 512MB ext4 for applications, and the remainder in FAT32 for storage. I did NOT use swap (No need to use swap. Trust me smile.gif ) and my Hero runs really smooth.

Hope this could be useful to some of you guys.

Have fun guys~

Go Android!
