MFM isnt designed to run on M6 or M7. what you all have done is to retain the header file from taiwan maps. with that, u will see a lot of route errors and thus making some poi's unsearcheable.

my advice, buy the original. The X or the M infront of the number does NOT matter. even i dont know the difference between an x3 or an x5.

Taiwanese M series and older X series have 1 thing NOT in common with us. They are LEFT HAND DRIVE. what would happen if u reach a roundabout ? 1st exit is from where ? for us right hand drive it's 9clock but for them leh ?

Papago X5 Malaysian version is out from M3asia. see buntutman's phone and u will know.

http://forum.mykopitiam.com/topic/8129-my-samsung-galaxy-s/

buy the original. it works for android 2.1
and if you really want mfm to make a map for your papago unit, tell it to them. no sense retaining your header files from taiwan when u're in malaysia on malaysian roads.

msm does not make maps for papago.

if u really did purchase the taiwanese version of papago for your phone legally, what you can do is download from mfm the last released version , swap all the files except the header file and you are good to go. however there will be route issues and search issues.

just purchase the original x5 for android 2.1 from m3asia la, its original and its in english.

All this while I thought X5 for 1.5 only
M6 and M7 for 2.0 and 2.1.

Now buntut says X5 can be used for 2.1 also?
Wow so confusing.
*
X3 or X5 does not represent anything. they can call it whatever X or M that they want and it wont mean anything to us.
Only thing is to know the brand name and the map behind them which is MFM.

M6 & M7 is for taiwan market only. not for malaysian market. theirs is left hand drive. we are not.
why buy a product which doesnt really work here ?

buntut says X5 can be used for 2.1 coz buntut got the X5 from m3 which is working for his galaxy S runing 2.1 and buntut was from MFM. duhhhhh.

buy the original.

i'm going to say this again, X5 malaysia for android 2.1 is available from m3asia.

if u purchased m6 or m7 from maction directly, which i highly doubt, all u need to do is download the last release from mfm and swap all the files except for the header. if you have legally purchased from maction directly i'm willing to teach you. but if u did it via an illegal method, sorry no go.

i am not working with m3asia and have no ties with them.

i am ex-mfm mapper with my hobby still being on tech items inclusive gps.
mfm didnt stop papago maps. mfm will still release papago maps. due date unknown at the moment for the next release of mfm-papago maps. At least that is what i've been told before my retirement.

i have no idea if it works on the desire as i only can confirm it as working properly on galaxy s running 2.1 unrooted.

it would be best for you to direct your queries to m3asia on your last question. i am not empowered to make any statements on behalf of them.
i will also not make any statements on behalf of mfm apart from what i've been told.

last time i heard many things also. like htc hero cannot use 2.1
and then i heard htc hero rm2k.

but then after time, all also changed.
so for your question, i'm sure after time all also change. right now what's important is it works for 2.1
cos 2.2 isnt out yet and dun tell me bout the 75% beta version from modaco.

why u all keep suggesting X5? evven if it can support 2.1,  there's no support for 800x480 yet la, only win mobile got. the highest resolution now is only 320 x 480 and its stated in m3asia website itself. what's the point?
*
coz i have showed proof that i have a working X5 from m3asia on my SGS.
as i said, i'm an ex-mfm mapper. so who would people believe ? you or me ?

i did provide it earlier.
limjonyee was the only one who saw before i took it down.
refer post #442.

it definitely works on sgs at full res 800x480. it was made for that res.

however to be truthful there are 2 downfalls to this version of X5. nothing major though.

I think this file can be used for android 2.1. its the X5.1
http://www.papago.com.tw/andsea/

Not sure whether to buy because
1)MFM no longer update papago maps
2)Wonder if it will support froyo

If can test first then buy would be nice. I dont stay near the M3 shop.

MFM will continue producing Papago maps. Re-construction takes time.

yup, from the photo it definitely shows that papago x5 sea versioin runs on the samsung galaxy s, which is android 2.1 btw... i don't think we should discuss ahem software... maybe those who wants to try it out can call the distributor? it's out of the question for me cos i live in johor... sigh

mine is original. given by m3 lol.

time and time again, i have told you. M6 & M7 isnt for malaysia.

and i'm going to offer this one last time,

IF you have purchased the ORIGINAL through maction, show me proof of your purchase, i will personally teach you how to dump MFM maps into M6 or M7 the right way. bear in mind this is only a temp solution with bugs.

poi's wont be extensively searchable and the roundabout icons will still be taiwanese's left hand drive mode. so would some voice prompts.

we begin our journey into a roundabout using clockwise method. Taiwanese on left hand drives are the total opposite.
so ......... show me the proof that it is original that you have purchased, and i will tell u how and what to dump.

Added on July 7, 2010, 11:50 pmapart from that, if you hadnt purchase an original M6 or M7 or X5 or X3, please carry your illegal discussion elsewhere.

lowyat's r&r is on the top.

Alright since you gave me an assurance that it will in fact work. I will buy it but before that, there is few last question in mind which i hope you dont mind answering. Please bear in mind that i have been a long term user of Mobile XT and is only forced to migrate to Papago because of Android, so i am really skeptical of software other than garmin. You know what i mean. smile.gif

1. How are the details of the maps/POI compared to the Garmin counterpart of MFM? (Comparing the same dated map of course, since papago MFM is last updated at April)
2. How easily searchable are the addresses? On Mobile XT, it's very very easy. I hope it is the same on Papago.
3. Is it in english by default? Because i can't read chinese.
4. Is there a pinch zooming support (multitouch)?
5. What are the 2 downfall you mentioned, i know it's nothing major but still i'm curious?
6. What actually cause the MFM Papago to be suspended? Are you confident that it will be resumed? I don't care when, just as long as it will be back. I just want some re-assurance so i won't buy this software only to head into dead end of map updates.

Thanks in advance!

1 - MFM makes papago and garmin maps. just so happen mfm produces legitimate papago maps. both come from same source of data so there will be no difference apart from the few minor engine calculations.

2 - its faster and better on papago. much much faster as everything is indexed. your searches come up in less than 1 second.

3 yes , X5 from M3asia is in english.

4 nope. not that advanced.

5 not all poi's are displayed. route plan is incomplete. apart from that the poi icons are screwed up and routing is abit off. these are bugs that existed in papago PND's as well. cept for the poi icons are not screwed in PND units . seriously, this is not a problem.

6 that is a confidential piece of information. i am not at liberty to answer that. However, i can answer you this, the papago map is now in reconstruction and even a beta version is released. i can assure u that papago maps will be made. for how long , that i cannot guarantee.

and my advice, if you really want to purchase it, call M3asia before u do. tell them u strictly want the X5 mobile for android 2.1 samsung galaxy S.
they have it as i got it from them. (though mine is given)

I agree with greypj.
There is no proof that the conflict between MFM and papago is being resolved. And dont belive people who say it is going to be resolved without any basis.

Try google brut google maps navigation instead. Its not offline but it works.

are u part of the mapping community ? may i ask what your nickname is in MFM. there will be a KL gathering on the 17th. i hope to see you there so i can personally give u 1 tight slap for talking nonsense.

and if you have the guts, you can reply your nickname in MFM here.

kthxbye.

To all users of papago navigation devices and softwares.

It has been 3 months since the last release. Some say mfm will never release it. So in order to prove that my words are of quality, please click on the link below to install the newly made fresh papago map.

http://www.malfreemaps.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=8567

and post your beta map feedbacks here

http://www.malfreemaps.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=8565&start=0

juz copy over all the files and back up the old one.

a beta map has been launched for all to enjoy and to shut those up who only talks shit and knows shit saying mfm will never or wont be producing papago maps.

@gzero, my assurance to u on Q6 is now proven. no need to thank me. thank mfm instead.

make sure u backup the previous map folder before updating to current one. although its beta, some minor changes will be applied to the next release and then some major changes. enjoy.
