I tried a version of papago x5 on mine, it wouldn't start. I read somewhere it doesn't work on 1.6, only 1.5 ... probably due to some native code it bundles with. will try on a friend's 1.5.

but if it can work, especially with MFM maps, I don't mine paying for this. Anyone know how much it costs?

i've bought this PapaGo X5 weeks ago and really wow~!

yes, its already released and price NTD1980 if converted to RM280+ (with Maps) , of course you may also download MFM Maps.

the problem is you will have to go through taiwan purchase system with chinese language. rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

To those who have high levels of patience, I suggest we wait for Eclaire first..I'm suspecting the point-to-point navigation on GMaps will be out for Malaysia too..Best of all, it will be free (except the data charges of course), but as far as I played my GMaps, it doesnt really use data intensively..

I will give see if I got some extra cash to buy the maps too..Will write the review too if I do.. biggrin.gif

lol..you're relying on a taiwanese company who doesn't even have an english site to guide you through Malaysian roads..And comparing it with a company which has made a breakthrough application (Google Earth + Google Maps) and has the most maps any community could ever have..

Personal preferences still I guess..To me, if its Google, it never turns me down..So I'll trust GMaps more than a community app..Besides, Google will do their homework of course - and we all know that smile.gif

MFM has the most updated poi's and also reliable ones.

MFM has been around for slightly more than a year. started making maps for papago not too long ago, cant recall when. for a good gps unit to work well, the map has to be constantly updated, routing constantly updated and poi's constantly updated.

Totally free usage are some of the things we always look forward to. Google maps consists of data charges while pure gpsr's believe in being totally FREE, especially from data charges.

Every week, there are roads that change, roads that turn into 1 way street. these are turn restrictions. satellite imagery from googlemaps can only be done once in a while as the cost is high. but not from community maps. directions are corrected almost everyday, feedback and especially points of interests. shops close and move every single day, new shops sprout out as new highways and roads and housing areas as well.

community maps will always be the best source and application.

im just curious to ask, which GPS system can detect Police Speed Roadblock Alert?? some ppl said the latest Garmin could do the detection few miles before you reach the speed scan.

detect as in real time? i doubt it can, those alert are come with the map (MFM, MSM) which mark some regular speed trap or police roadblock spot only. definitely not as like what u said that like satellite detected a roadblock ahead of you and sending you a warn.

all these years owning pda phones, i've used gmaps (turn by turn), sygic, tomtom, ndrive, iGo, garmin & mapking. only mapking with mfm & malsing maps gives best accuracy & updates. till today, although using iphone 3gs now, i miss the days using mapking+mfm+malsing. it'll never get u lost!

juz my 2cents worth....

my recent xperience with garmin is simply horrible...directing me into s'pore for a u-turn to get to danga bay, jb!! the UI to re-route is simply confusing & tedious.

i look fwd to getting papago+mfm once my htc hero arrives this weekend...

i can attest to that...i tried speeding pass an alerted spot by garmin in which i confidently knows there ain't any speedcams. true enuf, tak kena saman pun...imo, it's another sales pitch to try 'differentiate' themselves lo...

I'm guessing the the turn-by-turn navigation on the droid won't be available in Malaysia soon though, even with 2.0.

Reason being: the maps in google maps are licensed from other parties, and those licenses restrict google from offering turn-by-turn navigation. For the US, google terminated their license recently and are now using their own maps, hence they can deploy turn-by-turn navigation, as with the droid.

Where did google get their own maps? As part of their streetview project, they not only took the photos but also gathered track logs for the roads, hence can build up their own map. AFAIK, they've not started on streetview for Malaysia yet.

Just my guess on things.

Hence, quite keen to get something that uses MFM maps. Besides, with MFM you can contribute fixes and changes (google maps has mistakes in many places, but there doesn't seem to be a process for fixing them that I know of). For example, the road my in-laws are on is labeled wrongly, hence you can never navigate to their address!

there is no trial version for papago, agree with buntutman, the POI search is way faster than garmin and i like the small thumbnail pop up before the gps navigate alert you. i was in kl yesterday and all route work fine locking only took me less than 10sec no regret paying for this apps. thumbup.gif

unfortunately not many ppl are aware of the gps capabilities in malaysia just yet. and neither are aware that android is a powerful software.

not too many android buyers compared with winmo and symbian owners as android is still new.

whether got free gift or not i dunno. i will go after lunch to pc fair to ask before i buy.

Don't worry, I am not accusing you of using pirated software...

Looks like this software got problem on different ROM ah? I thought it should work just fine on 1.5? Maybe you can write an email and complain to them...

...or you can look for the person "ahjek" who somehow managed to get it run with MFM maps.

Just a suggestion.

Regarding the MFM Maps, it's complicated. I don't know what are the deals/T&C btw MFM and Papago as the map WAS available to download via Papago site few weeks earlier.

To those who purchased Papago and having startup problem it's better to contact Papago Support.

It's separate download, after official launch of Papago you can get the updated maps from MFM i presume.

KL PCfair - jammed pack becoz LOT of stuff to see and lot more vendors. We're talkin hundreds of booth there.
Small town PC Fair - relax/less jam bcoz lack of vendors especially those in East malaysia. You'll be lucky to see 60 booths.

So DONT assume all PC Fair are the same, they're NOT.

Papago do not provide trial version for its GPS software, you need to purchase the License Key to be able to use it.

Thx for clarification, but the Trial offer only available at PC Fair and NOT from Papago site download.

For those who download from Papago Website, there is NO TRIAL.

Hope this clear some doubts.

Ok. Thanks. Will give the DEMO a test first...

Added on December 4, 2009, 7:43 pmDEMO?...

Talked to 2 sales person : "No idea..."
Talked to M3 Asia staff : "No, we don't have."
Talked to the suppose manager : "Nope, no DEMO. everything is the same...just test the one we have will do." duh...

The guy even tell me the price is triple 9....*What!*
...."RM99.90" *funny way of cracking a joke"

If got Demo version, hope you guys can just share the software... or share the contact and I will get in touch with whoever.

Can't really see the performance on Android... when I tested on the "wayway" GPS, it is slow and not very responsive. Can't blame the software though, it is the device that is not responsive.

That's my feedback from walking ONE BIG round in KLCC, just to get to Papago. smile.gif

which wayway do u own ? I have Q3501 which i tested with many people and there was no performance issue. and wayway is a smooth device. tis faster than my nuvi.

and the performance of the android u can refer to unusual. He's had no problems with the x5 on his htc hero.

and there is no DEMO version.
Its pay RM 99.90 for the full version. Go on trial mode and dont register the software. when you are not happy, feel free to get a refund.
After Pc fair the purchase is RM 150.

This goes for both android and winmo.

allow me to give u some extra details

Hi there,

I assume you have downloaded the maps from here MFM Papago X5 for Android.

After that, just execute the program..it will extract the map to your C: drive. Look for 'MFM' folder inside the Navi folder, in my case 'C:/Navi/Maps/'.

Then copy the whole 'MFM' folder to you 'sdcard/Navi/Maps' and paste it on the 'Maps' folder.

Thats it and you're good to go biggrin.gif

quick question: for those who has successfully installed and running the papago for android.

do we do the registration before, during or after we install the apk ? installation guide didn't state so..

Added on December 5, 2009, 10:44 amthis is so disappointing -

I have bought the full version of Papago, installed the software based on instruction CD... can't start at all... gave me an error ( com.maction) error something.

then i went to their website downloaded the program update for tattoo...

installed and followed the instructions... I am able to get past the previous error and load into X5 Papago screen... and stuck there forever. just like vexus case. (i have already copied the MFM maps into the maps folder)

Could anyone help? just wasted RM99

my 1st posting.

Managed to install & run the app on my Magic.

Remedy, just follow the steps in Product Registration Card to get the Code.

1. Log on to http://www.mmcode.com and select your country.
2. Key in your PAPAGO_X5_Android/SEA: ie 595XXXA29XXQ for the Authorization Code and so on.
After you complete all the steps, you'll get the Code for your PAPAGO Registration screen in your hp.

My case not a happy ending anyway. It shows my location in Jln Raja Chulan instead of Bkt Jalil in the Navi screen but correctly shows in the map screen.. Don't know what's wrong, software bug of map error

Thanks shahnza.. you are more lucky than i am actually. Magic is supported, probably you only need to get the latest map from MFM.

I am using tattoo and i think the SEA version doesn't support it (if not wrong.. the one we bought is papago for android V2.0.)

Could someone help to ask the experts in pc fair in kl if there is any to install that on Tattoo?

OK, here's what I found after buying a copy at PC fair yesterday.

I ran it over Donut ROM (Cyanogen 4.2.6) - it force closes when I launch it. (Latest Cyanogen 4.2.7.1 also wont cut it)

So I re-flashed it back to Cupcake ROM (Magic with HTC Sense) and it works.

Conclusion: It works on 1.5 (Cupcake) version of Android. Tattoo is on 1.6 (Donut), I doubt you'd have anyway to get it up at the moment unless you go up to the extend of flashing it back to 1.5. As HTC ROMS is going Eclair (v2 Android) soon, I'm sure papago would need to release their software in par to support that. Return or not, it's up to you... just my dua sen... smile.gif

Anyway if you're on Donut, why not try Google Navigator at the moment while waiting, just that it doesn't have those fancy gfx and never know speed traps and one way streets laugh.gif

Tattoo can't use 1.5, because 1.5 only supports HVGA and 1.6 onwards supports non-HVGA screen!

But I think since Papago 3.0 already supports tattoo, there should be a way to get a free upgrade later when the SEA version is updated to 3.0?

older version should be june/july version.

since then, >1000 junction views were added
>100 turn restrictions were mended
>1000 poi's put in and removed
>100 new roads added

etc etc

I bought two android version from pcfair yesterday for my gf's and my magic. They have it running on a HTC Hero set. The map doesn't looks as nice as garmin but if it works, I don't mind. The map browsing is a bit slow with all the 3d building structures though.

But anyway, thanks for sharing. At least we know now that it will have some performance issue on Hero.

Sorry, I realized I did not finish the story. After I saw that the scrolling is a bit slow, I ask the guy how to turn off this 3d thing, because its tough la, if you seen the interface before, it can show the KLCC twin towers in 3d format.

So after I turned off this 3d structures thing, then it becomes smooth, scrolling is smoother compared to garmin running on my samsung symbian. tongue.gif

based on the dates release, I think so...plus they are selling the version here already so they are pressured to release it quicker.
btw you will gain if you hold on to ur license not lose. Later if they sell for RM 149, you can sell yours a little bit cheaper and profit.

have you tried this?
http://www.papago.com.tw/Android_web/download.htm

http://dl2.papago.com.tw/download/Papago/A...OO_20091125.rar

Yeah i tried that.. I follow exactly what been said for Tattoo on http://www.papago.com.tw/Android_web/download.htm

In the SD Card under maps folder, i've created the MFM and copied all mfm maps inside.

when i launch the papago software.. it can run.. but stuck in this screen

didn't even made it to the registration screen... thats what worries me.

So is the apk file from the rar file same as the one from the CD? Both of them give you the same result? Have you sent the email to papago?

It doesn't work, i think it is due to the fonts incompatibility rather than the maps...

Some news... I got an update back from papago support. they mentioned the X5 update to run on tattoo will come over to us soon.

They are also kind enough to offer me a full refund if I decided not to wait. (* not bad for their support i would say)

Thanx to advise from the bros here i guess i'll wait till the update arrive.

Maybe it work for taiwan folks but not us... or at least it doesn't work for me... or not compatible with MFM maps.

it can successfully launch the application just stuck in the x5 logo screen.

I haven't installed yet mine on my magic, but a couple of things off head that I would have tried on your tattoo just based on the posts here:

1. try to see if it can run with Taiwanese map?
2. someone said its font problem, change your tattoo to be Chinese Taiwan, then try see can run or not the papago.

No worries for 1.6 Donut users now... they have promised that an update to SEA version will soon come either end of this month or worst case early next month..

and then it will work on Tattoo and on MFM maps.

i guess now we'll just have to wait.. (for 1.6 users)

-----------------------------------------------------

so if there is anyone like me who has bought the software buy couldn't make it to run on your 1.6 phone.. just wait a little while longer.

if u purchased the original , you would learn that thailand map is given FREE of charge, Singapore is embeded with Malaysia which is also given FREE and
navigasi.net which is indonesia, is also ... FREE .

those who never spoke of this .... didnt buy the original. its very simple.

those who did, would have 3 full maps. anyway sg+my+indon is free anyway. bonus is the thailand map.

Bro, thanks for the explanation... The SA already told me during the PC fair, I guess most of us is very clear also since all also buying from PC fair...

PC fair got sell fake Papago meh?

My question is can I use Taiwan map on SEA version x5? Because from "Unusual the mod" reply, it seems I will be running into problems...

Actually I asked the same question during PC Fair too, the M3 staff give me a blank look... I politely say thank you and say I will consider buying later...

Hehehe... You can always bump into all sort of funny things when the SA is inexperience. biggrin.gif

the people at m3gps are new in this field. very new.
Unusual the mod is a reliable person. you are bound to run into a world of problems when you purchase taiwan edition papago X5 for android and mysg version of x5. he is definitely right.

reason because, both have different functions.
1 reads traditional chinese characters, the mysg mana ada orang know traditional chinese characters.
and x5 taiwan edition comes with TMC which is traffic management control . its sumthing that malaysia and singapore ...... dont have.

taiwan maps have different map id.
taiwan maps have different icons allocated.
taiwan maps contain traditional chinese characters.
taiwan maps have a different routing engine for tmc.

most of the M3 staff are not really well trained. i walked into their office today to purchase a Q4301 and anyone could tell the laggyness it had compared to the Q3501. same specs just diff screen size. ask for reason, they oso blur. but however there are 2 people there who are very qualified to assist you with any questions you have on their products.

1 - Look for business development manager - Mr Daryl Teh, he can be reached at the address and number i given in earlier post.
2 - head on over to www.malfreemaps.com and pm the nick sb17.
they are definitely capable of aiding any questions you have on their products. whether it be x5 papago android or x3 windows mobile or wayway, papago and garmin units.

can only have 1 version at a time coz folders and files almost the same. map tile names are almost similar as well.

what u can do is buy 2 cheap microsd cards and load in 1 version per card lor. taiwan 1 card, mysg 1 card. then swap.

Yeah, compared to Garmin which cost around RM400! This papago is cheap because its from Taiwan. I saw from some chinese forums, there are even navigation for china thats totally free, like google maps.

even RM148 i think is a good price to pay for the only gps software here which is able to support local MFM maps on android.

people could pay RM800 to buy a gps device.. why not RM148 to turn your phone into equivalent?

What do you mean? The Junction View alert? It will only triggered and show up when you near to a junction. The Photo you quote was taken in simulation mode.

it depends on what software you using... example like google map will use both gps and your 3g..

while papago is purely gps as the maps don't need to be downloaded online during use. so basically there are no internet charges and gps service is free.

Yeah, Malaysia doesn't have street view.

When I tested, I went to London (in google maps, not physically) and view the street view over there, its quite cool actually. After you are in street view, just Menu->Compass ON, then hold the phone up vertically.

I think its not that google blocks street view in Malaysia, its just they haven't done it here yet, since market here is small.

So far I tested, it doesn't make use of the compass at all.

One thing I notice is the difference in my HTC Magic's Compass compared to IPhone's. For my HTC Magic, I need to hold it up vertically (like when shooting a photo of pc fair girl), while I saw youtube of IPhone, you need to lay it down flat on the table.

So, HTC Magic's compass will not be so useful for reading maps, but will be more useful during navigation.

google earth/google maps is a very good application.
assuming you get to use the voice navigation, how sure are you that the turn restrictions are gonna be right ? google earth doesnt even show klang areas and alot of other areas.

malsingmaps and malfreemaps, struggle to keep up with the town councils road plannning, even with >10000 contributors.

wats more, the poi's collected from 10000 contributors are updated constantly.

how would google earth be better than a community map ? in aperiod of 7 days alone, at least 30 points are being taken off, due to closure or shifting of businesses. another 50 are added, and 5 more corrected for spelling.

its good. u get to see houses and buildings on top view which a normal driver will never see. so if u wanna find a signboard using google earth u have to wait until they come out with street view for malaysia ....which they wont.
data charges in malaysia also cheap cheap oni ma. so if u drive from here to ipoh is about 200km using 1 hour + journey. your data charges assuming is 1 sen 1 kb will equate up to ..... RM 200 from here to ipoh.
and that also they might bring u holland road coz they dunno which road is 1 way street, which road is closed for construction which road no longer exists.

best part is, they navigate u, thru flyover . what happens if u dowan go flyover but u at bottom of flyover part ? google earth will fail u there.
malaysia got many place is 3 tier highway.
LDP old motorala/sunway there oredi 3 tiers. 2 tiers also berlambak. Google earth confirm dun even know that kind of road exists. how to navigate u properly la when they dont even know how many tiers.

if go small kampung then no view liao. places like awan besar, klang, kuala pilah etc etc all see trees oni.
how to navigate balik kampung or visiting i oso dunno.

my reply is intended for the weirdos who trusts googlemap navigation more than community maps.
i have no idea how to navigate myself to a place using top sat view. street view damn nice, but top view is ....... lets just say i never see ppl's roof before when i drive or walk lor.

however dont get me wrong, it is a good application. still far long way to go before anyone can use it in malaysia. singapore still ok. malaysia and thailand, outla.

Malaysia road change too much...

A lot of maps or GPS software do not cater for ever changing Msia road...hahahaha Wonder the G will one day say Msia is 1st in ever road changing, and are still so proud of it... biggrin.gif

I have a GPS software that works damn well in Sgp, but not as well in Msia... not because of the software, but is because of the maps...*sigh*

Hmm, from my experience of using Garmin for 1 year+, and very limited experience in using Papago for 1 week+, both of them never make use of the elevation from the GPS, meaning that they can't tell whether I am on which tier, even when using community map. Usually they will only realize after I go out from the place that have many tiers.

So for this 1-2-3 tier thing, I would say google maps (its different from google earth, FYI), and community maps are the same. I agree with everything else you said. biggrin.gif

Both Garmin and Papago do not make use of elevation data because among elevation data is most inaccurate and unreliable in areas with a lot of building cover or below an elevated highway. Further improvements in GPS technology is needed to navigate multi-tier roads properly.

Bro, nice that you can explain this... Meaning what explained by another forumer is incorrect.

So, since you know so well on papago... Any plan for upgrade to support future Android version? And roughly when should we be expecting it?
Sorry, I didn't ask M3 because I noticed it is a waste of time asking them anyway....

There is still a lot of uncertainty in this, hence I have yet to purchase x5.... It is definitely something I really wish to have, simply because of the MFM....biggrin.gif

Sales ah? like that kind of limited then... It seems the OS run more faster now a days., so I guess the software developers also need to pick-up a bit...

Further more Papago have different version for different countries....unless MFM extended to my Fav. Taiwan....hahahaahahah biggrin.gif

One of the MFM taiko told me that Papago will update its android software by this year end, if not early next year to X6. The current problem is not certain phone model that can't run Papago, its Papago SEA version not compatible with the OS/firmware that runs the phone. Most of the current Andoid phones already ship with 1.6 or even 2.0 firmware, Papago will need to upgrade or loss of market share here.

sry im not hero user ... but papago SHOULD works on hero since HTC HERO only avail with 1.5 cupcake ..
so u should ask out any1 here who use htc hero by... seeing their signature .. lol

----------------------
malaysia wireless network coverage still under average ... and the price with any telco i think a lil bit high ..
if malaysia could expend their wireless network .. i could be using Google Maps Navigation from now on ...
way times 1 trillion better than papago and garmin

sometimes the lane assist screw up. u suppose to take left lane but it shows arrow to the right lane, and suddenly change to left lane so on n so forth.
*
Hmm, haven't really encountered this before.

But being too used to Garmin, I found that the map is "zoomed" too much in, sometimes I want to see when is the next turn, but because the map is zoomed so much in, I can only see straight road, the junction in the map comes too late.

So now I turn off Auto Zoom, and I usually zoom out (press the - button) 5 times when I start navigating.

tera...follow the link and download the latest maps...run the exe file and - c:\navi\maps\mfm folder will install into your PC local drive...rename (if you wanna keep the old maps) c:\navi\maps\MFM folder (ie MFM1 ,MFM2 ) and copy into your sdcard/navi/maps/, you can have multiple version of maps on device..

many thx to mr.Wokayyyy

Surprisingly mine have been consistently less than 5 seconds. I don't know if its because I have data unlimited.

yes its like that. maybe because of aGPS feature. Because when I turn OFF the mobile (data), it cant get the satellite signal locked. When I turn the data ON, suddenly can lock the satellite. LOL.

btw no on encounter problem like mine? sweat.gif

Data just detect the cell tower right? Will its help the locking satellite signal?

your problem is not really a Papago problem. Its more related to the accuracy of your GPS location. FYI, most phone GPS accuracy is at 30-40 meter radius most of the time. So, if there are 2 road parallel to each other and they are very near to each other there are chances that your indicator will switch road.

bro, for Assisted GPS, the phone retrieve Satellites location from servers via data either wifi/mobile. Apart from that internet exchange/cell tower tells the phone roughly where your location is. With this 2 info, a 'lock' is achieved must faster compared to conventional GPS.

Just encountered this last weekend around Sogo Area. I also start to realize that the voice navigation cannot be 100% depended upon like Garmin's. Sometimes it shows me to turn left but the voice says turn right... zzz

Hmm the last time when I bought the papago during GPS, confirmed its not working on my gf's 1.6 magic, but I just checked the website again
http://www.papago.com.tw/andsea/

IIRC the x5.1 wasn't there last time, will get my gf to test if that works on 1.6.

Yeah, stay tuned, they already released a version for TW, so there should be a release for msia soon, seeing that most of the phones will be upgraded to 1.6/2.0 soon.

Bro, Hero is Android 1.X what?

Papago so far only for 1.5, last I remember la...

Papago the junction view is very very helpful, but only If you look at it while you are driving... which is kind of dangerous.

This software helps me a lot while driving in Sgp....I must say the map is really accurate.

Bro, Hero is Android 1.X what?

Papago so far only for 1.5, last I remember la...

Papago the junction view is very very helpful, but only If you look at it while you are driving... which is kind of dangerous.

This software helps me a lot while driving in Sgp....I must say the map is really accurate.

android 1.5

visual is only for confirmation. audio instructions/voice navigation comes first. look when u dont understand what the instructions are.
and visual is put nearby where it doesnt obstruct your main view.

papago's voice navigation or audio instructions can be somewhat super annoying. i highlighted this many many many months back.

eg , pls keep left and turn left at the 6th exit.

bludy hell, i have to keep count of how many junctions there are. and the annoying part is the utterly long winded unecessary explanations.
pls keep left and enter the expressway and pls keep left ........... and it repeats and repeats. also i find annoying are, pls observe the speed limit and drive carefully.....

you have arrived at your favorite destination, its on the right. voice navigation ends.

all these so bludy annoying. luckily u can mod and change the voice files as it is all in .wav format.

so for left turns i modified my wav file to some counterstrike bang bang sound. lol. when the guns fire i know i have to turn left somewhere.
and for the "welcome to the papago voice navigation system, searching for satellites" i changed that to r2d2's beepings.
"satelite search complete" i changed to counterstrikes "go go go".

You are very creative tongue.gif
Sad that Papago still haven't release the support for Nexus One. Google maps doesn't provide turn by turn voice navigation here at msia.
very sad, why their development so slow...

Does anyone know whether PAPAGO X5 runs on 2.1 or not? Previously my Magic was on 1.5 and I ve installed a 2.1 custom ROM. After that, my PAPAGO X5 does not seem to work. Pity. Its a very good voice guided navigation software and maps for Malaysia is very detailed. Currently using Ndrive navigation software and its not as good as PAPAGO X5.

Hi, I just bought HTC Hero with Papago X5 installed. It can run but whenever i try to do a search for road/POI. It turns out no result at all. Any reason?
Also, if someone could publish a step-by-step installation guide for papago (including links to download software) would very much be appreciated. Thanks

He said if x5 have upgrade for android 2.0 and above, previous owner will get free upgrade, using back the same register key.

I got ask about M6, he said M6 only for Iphone currently, and he said the key cannot share X5 key with M6.

With a large android 2.0 userbase I'm surprise they're not trying to make the X5 compatible with the 2.0. I don't think it requires that much effort to make it compatible.

When I try to search for Road/POI there is nothing shown. blank. one black screen. dunno whether if it's searching or not.

Sorry, coz it's my first time with gps software and also papago and also magic. tongue.gif
Plus it's a new set, and I was trying to test the gps on my way back.
I was wondering, could it be because I didn't insert my sim card in the phone?

Added on April 19, 2010, 10:17 pmTried again the papago just now. Noticed that the satellite kept on searching but no result. After I ignored for a while, tried to access papago again but hanged!

yeah i am seriously very surprised and shocked too...its like taking them forever.

if u do visit the taiwan website u will notice their papago m6 software and not the X5 is already compatible with htc legend and all with android 2.1 os but its only for taiwan and its all in chinese menu.

i Believe its not that hard for them to actually convert the M6 into english menus? why is it taking them forever?

yeah i am seriously very surprised and shocked too...its like taking them forever.

if u do visit the taiwan website u will notice their papago m6 software and not the X5 is already compatible with htc legend and all with android 2.1 os but its only for taiwan and its all in chinese menu.

i Believe its not that hard for them to actually convert the M6 into english menus? why is it taking them forever?

From what I understand, the complication is not at the translation, the problem is because of the maps. For taiwan papago, the map comes with the software and install onto the phone. But for the Malaysian version, we copy the maps into the SDCard (because we use MFM instead of maps from papago), and there are major changes about SDCard access from 1.5 and 1.5+.

Not sure how they are going to solve this issue though.

*hide away*

Added on April 19, 2010, 10:17 pmTried again the papago just now. Noticed that the satellite kept on searching but no result. After I ignored for a while, tried to access papago again but hanged!
What happened? Anyone sifu knows?

i think all mobile phone comes with GPS chip will support AGPS...
what you are described (turn on your mobile data + gps) is what we called AGPS.

i guess everyone should put more pressure on papago to release a proper software for android 2.1. for our market. up till today still no news. that leaves us no choice but to use a semi-crippled software with wrong icons... =/

The Papago M6 on my legend works well with voice navigation. Problem with it now are the POI icons and a bit slower in respond in terms of routing recalculation. I personally think Ndrive is more responsive but, it lacks detail compared to Papago. Now i'm still waitig for the release of Android 2.1 papago X5, but by using this cracked M6, i think it's sufficient enough to purchase a proper X5 haha!!

Hi,
Am using the Papago M6 on N1 and notice that the navigation voice prompt (mandarin or english) has a *clap* sound after each sentence, e.g. turn left *clap* then turn right *clap*. Is this normal? Can the *clap* be removed?
Thanks in advance.

Has anyone got X5 working on any phone? Which phone models?

Who else has gotten M6 working on their phones, other than Legend and N1? Tried to install on X10 but only got to the splash screen, then crashed.

*edit* Have since gotten Papago M6 working on the Sony Ericsson X10. Hope they have an english version soon. Will definitely purchase it! *

Ya...my x5 is running on Magic with cupcake Sense UI.

The splash screen thingy last time we also faced... It is either it couldn't find/incompatible the map or your software is not "special effected" ...yet tongue.gif

ARRGGGHHH

I bought the CD today and I'm trying to install Papago! X5 for the HTC Hero.

I copied the Navi folder to my SD card.

I installed the apk from www.papago.com.tw/andsea per the instructions.

I launch the app, and it keeps saying "Map data validating failed!".

Can't even get to any registration screen!

Help!!

After the hard search from web, I can say that.
Yes! rclxms.gif
But I can only get the Papago M6 Taiwan version for modification.
You need a bit file modification on the Map. blush.gif

Since I can't get the Papago M6 Singapore Malaysia version, the looking place key-in is the problem.
The Taiwan version only provides BoPoMoFo input method, and the lack of POI, you can't have Malaysia Place/Location to search for. Sad... hmm.gif

One more thing is Papago M6 does not support in Landscape Mode.
That is pretty sad for such a GPS software if you buy it for RM100over.

Try google "Papago m6 for Nexus One", you will get a surprise. brows.gif

Or anyone wants to share the Papago M6 Singapore Malaysia, PM me. whistling.gif

Anyway, I can say that, Papago m6 is more suitable using in Taiwan as they worth it for frequently updates their Taiwan Map.
If Malaysia Singapore, then you have to mod yourself for Malfreemap. smile.gif
Any how, the latest Malfreemap is dated 19042010 if not mistaken.

the m6 is ultra smooth on the desire... but its useless... whenever i try to search all the poi it will say it's empty. the nearest poi it will come out is always the poi in the next city... even though i'm sure that my place has lots of poi...

so many bugs cos it's not made for malaysia... but i really like the smoothness of it feels... why papago so slow in updating its software...

I'm using Milestone. 480x854.
Currently think don't have English UI yet. It is Taiwan version.
Actually there is 2 version, originate is Taiwan, then now got China Mainland version, I think that is for China MOTOROLA users, it is free I think.
China version got Chinese Handwriting Input.

MFM isnt designed to run on M6 or M7. what you all have done is to retain the header file from taiwan maps. with that, u will see a lot of route errors and thus making some poi's unsearcheable.

my advice, buy the original. The X or the M infront of the number does NOT matter. even i dont know the difference between an x3 or an x5.

Taiwanese M series and older X series have 1 thing NOT in common with us. They are LEFT HAND DRIVE. what would happen if u reach a roundabout ? 1st exit is from where ? for us right hand drive it's 9clock but for them leh ?

Papago X5 Malaysian version is out from M3asia. see buntutman's phone and u will know.

http://forum.mykopitiam.com/topic/8129-my-samsung-galaxy-s/

buy the original. it works for android 2.1
and if you really want mfm to make a map for your papago unit, tell it to them. no sense retaining your header files from taiwan when u're in malaysia on malaysian roads.

msm does not make maps for papago.

if u really did purchase the taiwanese version of papago for your phone legally, what you can do is download from mfm the last released version , swap all the files except the header file and you are good to go. however there will be route issues and search issues.

just purchase the original x5 for android 2.1 from m3asia la, its original and its in english.

All this while I thought X5 for 1.5 only
M6 and M7 for 2.0 and 2.1.

Now buntut says X5 can be used for 2.1 also?
Wow so confusing.

X3 or X5 does not represent anything. they can call it whatever X or M that they want and it wont mean anything to us.
Only thing is to know the brand name and the map behind them which is MFM.

M6 & M7 is for taiwan market only. not for malaysian market. theirs is left hand drive. we are not.
why buy a product which doesnt really work here ?

buntut says X5 can be used for 2.1 coz buntut got the X5 from m3 which is working for his galaxy S runing 2.1 and buntut was from MFM. duhhhhh.

buy the original.

i'm going to say this again, X5 malaysia for android 2.1 is available from m3asia.

if u purchased m6 or m7 from maction directly, which i highly doubt, all u need to do is download the last release from mfm and swap all the files except for the header. if you have legally purchased from maction directly i'm willing to teach you. but if u did it via an illegal method, sorry no go.

Hi, you work for m3 asia? Anyway I'm not from KL, so to go all the way there, is impossible.just need user here to confirm the software is working on the desire before buying it.plans to but online from the website.

Another question is, since mfm had already stop releasing new maps, so how m3 asia is going to support its legal user?

i am not working with m3asia and have no ties with them.

i am ex-mfm mapper with my hobby still being on tech items inclusive gps.
mfm didnt stop papago maps. mfm will still release papago maps. due date unknown at the moment for the next release of mfm-papago maps. At least that is what i've been told before my retirement.

i have no idea if it works on the desire as i only can confirm it as working properly on galaxy s running 2.1 unrooted.

it would be best for you to direct your queries to m3asia on your last question. i am not empowered to make any statements on behalf of them.
i will also not make any statements on behalf of mfm apart from what i've been told.

Ok... Thanks... I think we should support Original as well. but dare not take the plunge since the website didn't implicitly state that it'll support android 2.1. Waiting for the first buyer to give feedback then

Is Android backwards compatible? Like when Legend/Desire/Nexus One users finally get the 2.2 update, is Papago X5 usable on it? Coz last time I heard Papago X5 cannot be used on 2.1. Now that when it finally supports 2.1, 2.2 is coming out.

last time i heard many things also. like htc hero cannot use 2.1
and then i heard htc hero rm2k.

but then after time, all also changed.
so for your question, i'm sure after time all also change. right now what's important is it works for 2.1
cos 2.2 isnt out yet and dun tell me bout the 75% beta version from modaco.

lol. 2.2 is already rolling out to nexus one users, the real deal. Engadget has it that in Q3 (which starts tomorrow) 2.2 will be rolling out to Legend, Desire and EVO. It took 6 months for Papago to support 2.1, and when they did, 2.2 is starting to roll out. C'mon, 2.2 with that SD app storage update, who's not going to update, right?

I, personally, am just waiting for 2.2 to roll out on the Desire. As soon as ppl start getting the official 2.2, i'm getting that Desire.

It is going to change, but time doesn't stop. Maybe this has something to do with Android's fragmentation issues.

Well, who knows, maybe Papago has been working overtime with that 2.2 source code released not long ago.

So, android is not backwards compatible, like how a Win 7 can run a Win 98 program?

bro, there is a shop in Danga City Mall selling it.
IIRC, it's selling slightly less than the online price.

But they won't install it for me (after talking to them I wouldn't want them to install either, cause they don't seem technical).

Yea it works but the map used is outdated. Much of the POIs around my area aren't included in the maps. Besides that, can't even search KLCC or Jalan Pinang. (no results) shakehead.gif

why u all keep suggesting X5? evven if it can support 2.1, there's no support for 800x480 yet la, only win mobile got. the highest resolution now is only 320 x 480 and its stated in m3asia website itself. what's the point?

Okay, fair enough. My bad.

Another question, so does the X5 natively support 800x480? Because i do not want to end up getting a low res version and getting stretched and looks ugly on my phone. Can you provide a few screenshot showing map and navigation? Because i'm really considering to buy one. Also, does the license entitle you for further software upgrade in the future? Or is it strictly for X5 only?

refer post #442.

it definitely works on sgs at full res 800x480. it was made for that res.

however to be truthful there are 2 downfalls to this version of X5. nothing major though.

I think this file can be used for android 2.1. its the X5.1
http://www.papago.com.tw/andsea/

Not sure whether to buy because
1)MFM no longer update papago maps
2)Wonder if it will support froyo

If can test first then buy would be nice. I dont stay near the M3 shop.

What file are those in the link that you have provided?
Those files are so small in size, cant be the application right?

Anyway guys, I am using Google map Brut14 and it seems like there is a feature to save maps to SD card
The discussion is in this thread

I believe that that link provides just the X5 app for your phone. But need the maps. I think this is where we need M3 to go to m3.
Not very sure cause my first android phone and I'm searching for a good gps app.

I installed the brut navigation. I read somewhere that even if you can save the maps to sd, it can only be used for the brut maps and not for navigation.

time and time again, i have told you. M6 & M7 isnt for malaysia.

and i'm going to offer this one last time,

IF you have purchased the ORIGINAL through maction, show me proof of your purchase, i will personally teach you how to dump MFM maps into M6 or M7 the right way. bear in mind this is only a temp solution with bugs.

poi's wont be extensively searchable and the roundabout icons will still be taiwanese's left hand drive mode. so would some voice prompts.

we begin our journey into a roundabout using clockwise method. Taiwanese on left hand drives are the total opposite.
so ......... show me the proof that it is original that you have purchased, and i will tell u how and what to dump.

Added on July 7, 2010, 11:50 pmapart from that, if you hadnt purchase an original M6 or M7 or X5 or X3, please carry your illegal discussion elsewhere.

Alright since you gave me an assurance that it will in fact work. I will buy it but before that, there is few last question in mind which i hope you dont mind answering. Please bear in mind that i have been a long term user of Mobile XT and is only forced to migrate to Papago because of Android, so i am really skeptical of software other than garmin. You know what i mean. smile.gif

1. How are the details of the maps/POI compared to the Garmin counterpart of MFM? (Comparing the same dated map of course, since papago MFM is last updated at April)
2. How easily searchable are the addresses? On Mobile XT, it's very very easy. I hope it is the same on Papago.
3. Is it in english by default? Because i can't read chinese.
4. Is there a pinch zooming support (multitouch)?
5. What are the 2 downfall you mentioned, i know it's nothing major but still i'm curious?
6. What actually cause the MFM Papago to be suspended? Are you confident that it will be resumed? I don't care when, just as long as it will be back. I just want some re-assurance so i won't buy this software only to head into dead end of map updates.

Thanks in advance!

1 - MFM makes papago and garmin maps. just so happen mfm produces legitimate papago maps. both come from same source of data so there will be no difference apart from the few minor engine calculations.

2 - its faster and better on papago. much much faster as everything is indexed. your searches come up in less than 1 second.

3 yes , X5 from M3asia is in english.

4 nope. not that advanced.

5 not all poi's are displayed. route plan is incomplete. apart from that the poi icons are screwed up and routing is abit off. these are bugs that existed in papago PND's as well. cept for the poi icons are not screwed in PND units . seriously, this is not a problem.

6 that is a confidential piece of information. i am not at liberty to answer that. However, i can answer you this, the papago map is now in reconstruction and even a beta version is released. i can assure u that papago maps will be made. for how long , that i cannot guarantee.

and my advice, if you really want to purchase it, call M3asia before u do. tell them u strictly want the X5 mobile for android 2.1 samsung galaxy S.
they have it as i got it from them. (though mine is given)

Hi All,

What buntutwoman said .. is true. but currently only for Android 1.5 until 2.1 that really works , still workin for 2.2 .. 1 thing why always u ppl compare papago n garmin, if u thinkin garmin the best. then wait for garmin to release for android sweat.gif
As buntutwoman mention go to m3asia and asking them u wanna install for new version of android..

p/s buntutwoman : as u mention earlier , ur papago was been given ?? is it right ?? hmm.gif

there is no news at all about garmin releasing on android, not that i don't want to wait. for all we know, they might not even release the mobile version anymore, just like they discontinued mobile xt on symbian. and the reason i compared it's because i've been using garmin all my life and i loved it, despite the fact that it's a bit slow. that's why my expectation of any new gps software is such that it must have feature to match at least those offered by garmin if not better.

Sad to say that Papago X5 is not compatible with Android 2.2.

I agree with greypj.
There is no proof that the conflict between MFM and papago is being resolved. And dont believe people who say it is going to be resolved without any basis.

Try google brut google maps navigation instead. Its not offline but it works.

Hi

Currently I have the original x5 android installed in my hero 1.5 which I got it from m3asia.

Want to check if I do a OTA 2.1 firmware upgrade, do I need to reinstall my papago x5? Or no action needed?

Thanks!

Hi All! Papago X5 does work on 2.1. It is working on my HTC Magic with Legend ROM now.

The CD box that I bought it in, stated supports only 1.1/1.5 so mine is the old version. But I got a new DVD from m3asia, and it worked flawlessly like it did on 1.5, copy Navi into SD card, and install the apk from the web.

Yay! Now I can use 2.1!

Hi,
Am using the Papago M6 on N1 and notice that the navigation voice prompt (mandarin or english) has a *clap* sound after each sentence, e.g. turn left *clap* then turn right *clap*. Is this normal? Can the *clap* be removed?
Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
A follow-up on my previous post. I am now using the M7 and still having the same problem with navigation voice, attached is the link to the recording I've made. Note the *clap* sound during the pauses in between the voice.

Anyone running M6 or M7 on the Nexus One having the same issue and can provide a solution? Thanks in advance.

edit - problem solved.

To all users of papago navigation devices and softwares.

It has been 3 months since the last release. Some say mfm will never release it. So in order to prove that my words are of quality, please click on the link below to install the newly made fresh papago map.

http://www.malfreemaps.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=8567

and post your beta map feedbacks here

http://www.malfreemaps.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=8565&start=0

juz copy over all the files and back up the old one.

a beta map has been launched for all to enjoy and to shut those up who only talks shit and knows shit saying mfm will never or wont be producing papago maps.

@gzero, my assurance to u on Q6 is now proven. no need to thank me. thank mfm instead.

make sure u backup the previous map folder before updating to current one. although its beta, some minor changes will be applied to the next release and then some major changes. enjoy.
