To those who have high levels of patience, I suggest we wait for Eclaire first..I'm suspecting the point-to-point navigation on GMaps will be out for Malaysia too..Best of all, it will be free (except the data charges of course), but as far as I played my GMaps, it doesnt really use data intensively..
I'm guessing the the turn-by-turn navigation on the droid won't be available in Malaysia soon though, even with 2.0.Reason being: the maps in google maps are licensed from other parties, and those licenses restrict google from offering turn-by-turn navigation. For the US, google terminated their license recently and are now using their own maps, hence they can deploy turn-by-turn navigation, as with the droid.
Where did google get their own maps? As part of their streetview project, they not only took the photos but also gathered track logs for the roads, hence can build up their own map. AFAIK, they've not started on streetview for Malaysia yet.
Just my guess on things.
Hence, quite keen to get something that uses MFM maps. Besides, with MFM you can contribute fixes and changes (google maps has mistakes in many places, but there doesn't seem to be a process for fixing them that I know of). For example, the road my in-laws are on is labeled wrongly, hence you can never navigate to their address!
