Intel has no such thing as hybrid graphic, while Nvidia has it's own Hybrid SLI, which comprises of GeForce Boost (the integrated and dedicated GPU run in SLI mode to boost performance) and Hybrid Power (dedicated shuts down while integrated runs to achieve higher battery life, and vice versa for performance)...

however, such combo of Nvidia dedicated + intel integrated falls under the category of Hybrid Graphic... initially Nvidia has plans to support it, but ever since it ran into some lawsuits with Intel over the use of FSB and DMI bus, such support was dropped and disappear into thin air...

driver modders like Dox and Nautis in laptopvideo2go provide non-official hybrid graphic driver for laptops like S42, while OEMs themselves do try to come up with such driver as well, albeit in small quantities...

your best bet now is get Dox or Nautis driver... miahahaha, another S42 users, have quite a lot of experience with it... nod.gif

oo, thanks again bro.. is benq s57 64 bit?

whether u can install x64 OS is a question with the CPU instead of laptop model...

yes, Core 2 Duo supports x64 OS... have been using Vista x64 since 2007 on my old S41... nod.gif

Guys, If I use 32 bit os, is it possible to use standard driver from benq website? I mean the hybrid power can still be used, right? Thanks.
*
iirc the driver for Vista is super old (the initial release), and the driver for Win7 is newer, but requires u to flash the BIOS to latest under Vista...

So, if install windows 7 32bit, no need to flash bios? What is the advantage if flash bios?
*
u'll need to flash if u want to install BenQ's driver... but u can skip that if u install modded driver...

a new BIOS usually irons out bugs that are found after the computer has been put on sale...

@eastwest: the new driver would require u to flash bios already...whether u using W7 or vista, doesnt matter, still need to flash..however bios can only be succesfully flashed in vista

@astria: like that a...i dunno liao..haha

should be Win7 x64...

anyway, eastwest, the problem lies in the adoption of x64 OS... S42 came out at the time when the public and OEM have some interest with x64 OS due to the limitation of RAM on x86 OS... S42 by default came with Vista x86, and thus, even if u do the free upgrade, it will still get u Win7 x86 also... thus the lack of x64 driver on BenQ support page...

when i was using the older S41 and switched to Vista x64, i had some problem looking for drivers as well... but of course less troublesome as S42... there's no hybrid graphic on S41.. .laugh.gif

Thanks notworthy.gif
i'm using windows 7 64bit ....but have to reformat and install again because first time installation, I didn't format the linux partition... I thought after install 7 can use linux with dual boot option but it does not work doh.gif

Maybe install with 32 bit os after this, depend on situation wink.gif
*
if u want to use Linux, install Window then install Linux, whichever distro u like...

Windows would rewrite the whole MBR such that it is the only boot option... while Linux would add on the Windows' MBR so that u can choose which u want to boot up to...
