Demon's Souls Black Phantom Edition has the R2 version of the game (region codes dictate server region), the artbook and a fan-made guidebook compiled by the owner of the Demon's Souls unofficial wiki.

Best to invest in a Dragon weapon too. 4-2 Reaper and Shades are resistant to Magic damage. And Moon weapon are much better than Crescent weapons any day.

The regions codes determine the location of the servers, which will matter when you want to play online. Most significantly it'll affect lag and online-only events (assuming those are still being held). Another less important difference is the terminology and names used (e.g. R1's War Scythe is Sais in R3).

For Malaysia, I'd recommend R3 unless you have some friends playing R1.

If you're farming the BP Black Skeleton in 4-2, you don't need the Large Sword of Searching since loot drop rate is 100%.

And since you mentioned the word "challenge", let me point out the fact that these two methods aren't "challenges" as you're using exploits to kill Doran. I suggest you try fighting him as you would any other enemy before trying these methods.

Black Phantom Ostrava drops both the Rune Sword and Rune Shield when killed.
The Mausoleum Key is found when Body Form Ostrava is killed, whether by the player or enemy. After that, Body Form Ostrava will not spawn anymore, hence eliminating further chances to obtain said key until the start of New Game +.

Both dragons will disappear from World 1 if your World Tendency is Pure White.

World Tendencies will change and will disregard your progress if you play the game while logged into PSN.

Mephistopheles is actually a woman. She will task you with the assassination of certain key targets, rewarding you with increasingly valuable items.

If you upgrade the Crescent Falchion, it's good enough to last you through your first playthrough. Gather Darkmoonstones from World 4 and bring it to Blacksmith Ed in 2-1 for upgrade.

As for armour, the best armour is either Old King Doran's (male) or Executioner Miralda (female). Otherwise, the best method is to not wear anything heavier than Leather, unless you know what you're doing.

Miralda's armour has decent defence but does not reduce your Stamina regeneration rate.

No, you won't gain more souls from repeatedly killing Fool's Idol.

Previously, Sony assumed this game would fail because of its difficulty, hence did not publish the game in the US, UK and, basically, other parts outside of Asia; Atlus US saw the potential and brought the game to the US. UK will finally get a release of this game in their region and the publisher decided to drum up interest by making this another "special edition".
