Nope, not rooted. Just saw your note and didn't know to root is an additional step. and didn't install the FlashRec, I'll try that now.

Yeah, but can't wait to root it haha... Been with me for 4 days and yet to use it tongue.gif

Btw, how do we get the Flashrec.apk on the phone. You mentioned to install using File Manager?

the video for rooting the Hero ain't loading proper. I used another online guide (http://www.sizzledcore.com/2009/12/02/how-to-root-htc-hero-and-install-amon-ra-recovery-image/)

and it asks to format the SD card? Plus I can't unmount the SD card as its greyed out.

Thanks, one more thing (please bear with me, I'm just too n00b at this and don't wanna mess this up), but how can I get the File Manager when I don't have Market in the first place?

Let me see if SlideMe has it.

Not getting this, as I understand you gotta install the file manager on the phone.

Added on December 27, 2009, 8:51 pmI gotta head out, will try again later. Just a few niggles, installing the FlashRec has to be done using a file manager and as you advised I can download them.

But how do I get the file manager running on the phone, simply transfer via USB to the SD card?

Done, only Modaco 2.9 though. (your Archive 4 is corrupted or sumthin, was lazy to look for it elsewhere)

Apart from the confusion on have a file manager installed everything went well!

Btw, I skipped step 4 for now. I'm still using the standard 2GB and will upgrade to an 8gb class 4/6. Sounds like step.4 is to be done using a card you're gonna be using?

And speaking of SD card, I can change the SD card without any issues right, as custom ROM should have been stored on the phone?

Also, will doing the step 4 later affect the phone settings? (say, I've customised it, added contacts etc etc...)

yeah just haven't had time to do so...

but back to my question, the operation of the phone itself (custom ROM and what not) should not be affected by an SD swap right? (except I'm guessing all my installed apps will be removed)

Hey guys, how do I go about doing an MCR3.0 update? (or 3.1 for that matter)

Simply just flash the ROM? and it won't affect my current phone settings right? (apps, contacts, messages, etc...)

One other sideline question, since we're on custom ROM is it safe to say we should not be going to HTC sites for official updates?

Yeah, I was afraid too but hey it came out alright at the end!

Btw Shahz I still need to refer back to my earlier question posted above, will updating to MCR 3.0 affect my current phone settings right? (apps, contacts, messages, etc...)

Hey Shahz, or anyone else for that matter (i know Shahz is busy making love to his Nexus tongue.gif )....

I've been using my Hero with a stock 2Gb card thus far, and have installed some application, created some folders for storing songs, and albums for pics etc etc...

so now I've gone out and got meself an 8Gb cls6 card, how do I go about doing the partition thing? Do I just start from scratch with the empty SD card, or copy what's in the 2GB card into the 8GB?

I'm not sure, but if I start with the blank SD, afterwards how do I know what folder goes where? this may be just straight forward but right now I'm abit pening icon_question.gif

If you want, you can do this:
1. Go into the recovery, make a nandroid backup.
2. Move all contents from your SD card to your computer.
3. Slot in the new SD card.
4. Make the partitions on the new SD card.
5. Restore the Nandroid.

Although it does work seemlessly, I do not guarantee any loss of data if anything goes wrong smile.gif Nandroid is reliable to me though so far.
If you want to be safe, backup your contacts with sync and then use Titanium Backup as an extra feature..

I am actually busy making love to my N1, but I have not forgotten Hero yet..hihi

Thanks Shahz, I'll give it a shot. Appreciate you taking the time despite being busy with the N1. And errr, does this mean you're playing kayu tiga? Omg poligamy is baaaaadd mad.gif

Dunno what I did wrong here.....

Shahz so what I did was, I created a Nandroid backup using the old 2GB SD card.

I then removed it, and plugged in the new 8GB SD. Performed the partitioning and upgraded to ext4. All went well.

But now I'm wondering, how can the Nandroid be performed as the new SD card is empty. But I tried it anyway and got error "Error: "nandroid-mobile.sh restore" from console!"

So, plugged the phone in and copied the backup to the new SD card. Just a direct copy-paste.

Reboot the phone and tried again but same error. So anyway I just turned on the phone.

All settings seems ok, my contacts are there, SMSes are intact. Twitter/Twidroid/ebuddy remembered my settings.

I dunno, seems ok but not sure whatever changes I made to the new SD will deliver the "performance" it should, and if just copying all the backup into the SD will make any difference.

Guess if it works then its good news?

Added on January 17, 2010, 12:45 pmHu hu.... tried upgrading to modaco 3.0, says successfully installed but still 2.9 cry.gif

Wait..First of all, you must know what nandroid does..Its a WHOLE backup of your phone..AND its located on your SD card, so by right, after making the nandroid backup, you should move all the contents of your SD card to your computer (or just the nandroid folder for the case if other data is not useful)..When you restore a nandroid, your contacts, messages, applications, widgets arrangements, and even the ROM you were using during backup is restored.

Yeah I did just that, the Nandroid did not restore but all my settings are fine.

But somehow, I cannot upgrade to Modaco 3.0. I have run the files via Recovery Console and both the Enhanced ROM and boot sound are shown as successfully installed. Weird.
